    Additive Manufacturing for Inductive Power Transfer in Robotic Applications

    The following study presents an approach to innovative power transfer in robotic applications. It demonstrates how energy can be transferred along robot segments and how a wireless, wear-free energy transfer system between two robot segments could be realized. The deposition of silver ink for the fabrication of a conductive 3D-printed coil is explored, by leveraging an five-axis 3D-printing system in combination with piezo-jet technology. As a result, two inductive power transfer (IPT) systems with different parameters related to conductor cross-section and number of turns were developed. An additional magnetic shielding is additively manufactured using a PLA infused with iron particles, to strengthen the magnetic field inside the coils and reduce the magnetic field emitted into the surroundings. In addition to analytical and simulationbased analyses, the IPT performance between the two coils was validated through an experimental setup. This 3D-printed approach to manufacturing coils offers the advantage that IPT systems can be tailored to specific applications

    Energy system transformations toward zero emissions: A focus on pyrolysis

    Renewables and flexibility technologies, together with negative emission technologies, will play an important role in achieving a decarbonised energy system. However, the impact of pyrolysis, a promising negative emission technology, remains underexplored in the energy system. Pyrolysis, which carbonizes biomass to produce biochar, oil, heat and/or electricity, offers a promising path to climate neutrality in the energy system. This paper addresses this knowledge gap by presenting a new, hourly-resolved model of the German energy system to evaluate the integration of pyrolysis in the whole energy system, focusing on cost-effective, zero-emission outcomes. The model reveals that pyrolysis, by the year 2045, enables lower cost decarbonization systems by adjusting the installation capacity and unit commitment of power plants, with biochar compensating for emissions. Additionally, the presence of pyrolysis reduces the need for hydrogen up to 69%, improving the overall system performance. Pyrolysis is used as a base-load technology at a capital cost of over 850 €/kW, and if the capital cost is reduced, it can transition to a flexibility technology. The results of this study indicate that pyrolysis, which is available on the market, integrates well into the energy system with a promising potential to help decarbonisatio

Die generativen Sprachmodelle, KI-Agenten und die Bemühungen rund um die Automatisierung von Arbeitsschritten bringen unangenehme Begleitaspekte mit sich, die wie im Arup-Deepfake-Betrug enorme monetäre Konsequenzen haben können. Da solche Angriffe häufiger werden, ist es aus Sicht von Unternehmen wichtig zu verstehen, wie solche Deepfake- Konstruktionen aufgebaut sind und wie eine Risikomodellierung auf dieser Grundlage aussehen könnte

    Flexibility Management Approaches for LV Grids: Comparing §14a EnWG, Dynamic Operating Envelopes, and Grid-Sensitive Energy Communities

    The increasing integration of distributed energy resources such as photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles, battery energy storage systems and heat pumps into low-voltage (LV) distribution grids presents significant technical and regulatory challenges. This paper compares three prominent flexibility management approaches with respect to their suitability for managing grid congestion, enhancing grid stability, and enabling the energy transition in Germany: (1) §14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG), (2) Dynamic Operating Envelopes (DOEs), and (3) Grid-Sensitive Energy Communities (GrECs). Through a detailed review of technical implementations, regulatory frameworks, and prosumer participation levels, we identify the strengths and limitations of each method. §14a EnWG offers a reactive and centralized curative measure suited to immediate congestion relief. DOEs provide a proactive, market-integrated mechanism leveraging real-time grid conditions to dynamically allocate import and export limits. GrECs exhibit a broader range of methods and approaches due to the absence of a unified definition. They typically employ proactive mechanisms that generate individual schedules for community members to prevent grid congestion. Their acceptance among prosumers is higher, as side constraints can incorporate economic objectives. DOEs and GrECs face similar challenges, particularly the lack of regulatory adaptation and the requirement for advanced digital infrastructure. The paper concludes that §14a EnWG provides immediate grid relief and its scalability is limited; while DOEs and GrECs offer adaptability and market benefits but demand regulatory and infrastructure advances, whereas GrECs also involve higher implementation and communication challenges

    Real-time Prediction of Urban Sound Propagation with Conditioned Normalizing Flows

    Accurate and fast urban noise prediction is pivotal for public health and for regulatory workflows in cities, where the Environmental Noise Directive mandates regular strategic noise maps and action plans, often needed in permission workflows, right-of-way allocation, and construction scheduling. Physics-based solvers are too slow for such time-critical, iterative "what-if" studies. We evaluate conditional Normalizing Flows (Full-Glow) for generating for generating standards-compliant urban sound-pressure maps from 2D urban layouts in real time per 256x256 map on a single RTX 4090), enabling interactive exploration directly on commodity hardware. On datasets covering Baseline, Diffraction, and Reflection regimes, our model accelerates map generation by >2000 times over a reference solver while improving NLoS accuracy by up to 24% versus prior deep models; in Baseline NLoS we reach 0.65 dB MAE with high structural fidelity. The model reproduces diffraction and interference patterns and supports instant recomputation under source or geometry changes, making it a practical engine for urban planning, compliance mapping, and operations (e.g., temporary road closures, night-work variance assessments)
