    Reibungsfreie inkompressible Strömungen

    No full text

Effect of downhill running on biomechanical risk factors associated with iliotibial band syndrome

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of downhill running on biomechanical risk factors for iliotibial band syndrome. We conducted a 3D motion analysis of 22 females and males running on an instrumented treadmill at four different inclinations (0%, -5%, -10%, -15%) at a speed of 3.5 m/s. We found significant differences for biomechanical risk factors associated with iliotibial band syndrome. Peak knee flexion angle at initial ground contact (p < .001), peak knee adduction angle (p = .005), and iliotibial band strain (p < .001) systematically increased with increasing slope. Downhill running increases biomechanical risk factors for iliotibial band syndrome. Our results highlight the need to consider the individual running environment in assessing overuse injury risk in runners

Background: Many countries have restricted public life in order to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV2). As a side effect of related measures, physical activity (PA) levels may have decreased. Objective: We aimed (1) to quantify changes in PA and (2) to identify variables potentially predicting PA reductions. Methods: A systematic review with random-effects multilevel meta-analysis was performed, pooling the standardized mean differences in PA measures before and during public life restrictions. Results: A total of 173 trials with moderate methodological quality (modified Downs and Black checklist) were identified. Compared to pre-pandemic, total PA (SMD − 0.65, 95% CI − 1.10 to − 0.21) and walking (SMD − 0.52, 95% CI − 0.29 to − 0.76) decreased while sedentary behavior increased (SMD 0.91, 95% CI: 0.17 to 1.65). Reductions in PA affected all intensities (light: SMD − 0.35, 95% CI − 0.09 to − 0.61, p = .013; moderate: SMD − 0.33, 95% CI − 0.02 to − 0.6; vigorous: SMD − 0.33, − 0.08 to − 0.58, 95% CI − 0.08 to − 0.58) to a similar degree. Moderator analyses revealed no influence of variables such as sex, age, body mass index, or health status. However, the only continent without a PA reduction was Australia and cross-sectional trials yielded higher effect sizes (p < .05). Conclusion: Public life restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in moderate reductions in PA levels and large increases in sedentary behavior. Health professionals and policy makers should therefore join forces to develop strategies counteracting the adverse effects of inactivity

Benchmarking of Symmetric Cryptographic Algorithms on a Deeply Embedded System

    Get PDF
In this paper, we study the runtime performance of symmetric cryptographic algorithms on an embedded ARM Cortex-M4 platform. Symmetric cryptographic algorithms can serve to protect the integrity and optionally, if supported by the algorithm, the confidentiality of data. A broad range of well-established algorithms exists, where the different algorithms typically have different properties and come with different computational complexity. On deeply embedded systems, the overhead imposed by cryptographic operations may be significant. We execute the algorithms AES-GCM, ChaCha20-Poly1305, HMAC-SHA256, KMAC, and SipHash on an STM32 embedded microcontroller and benchmark the execution times of the algorithms as a function of the input lengths

Evaluation of an Inertial and Optical Sensors Based Mapping and Localization System

    No full text
The visual-inertial mapping and localization system maplab is analyzed by its implementation and subsequent evaluation. The mapping or localization is based on environmental feature detection. In addition to creating maps, there is also the option of fusion of several maps and thus mapping extensive areas and using them for further analysis of data. In this way, various software tools can be used to optimize the existing data sets. Two sensor components are needed: an inertial measuring unit (IMU) and a monochrome camera, which are combined by a hardware rig and put into operation for the analysis of the visual-inertial system. System calibration is crucial for precision and system functioning and is based on nonlinear dynamic state estimation. This ensures the best possible estimate of the position of the environmental feature and the map. Maplab is particularly suitable for mapping rooms or small building complexes as the implementation and evaluation of the results in different application scenarios show. Special emphasis is laid on the evaluation of larger scenarios, in which is shown, that the system is struggling to keep up geometric consistencies and thus provide an accurate map

It is merely necessary to measure the battery voltage

Technology Lifecycles and Digital Technologies: Patterns of Discourse across Levels of Materiality

    No full text
The technology lifecycle model is extensively used to study technology evolution and innovation. However, this model was developed for industrial-age material technologies and does not address digital technologies with nonmaterial elements. Therefore, a question emerges as to whether the level of technological materiality is implicated in different dynamics of innovation, as reflected in the technology lifecycle. Digital technologies evolve through discourse that involves interactions among multiple stakeholders that shape the evolutionary trajectory of the technology. Therefore, we set out to examine whether discourse about digital technologies that vary in their level of materiality manifests in different ways throughout these technologies’ lifecycles. To do so, we conducted a study comparing the discourse around 10 digital technologies—five highly material and five highly nonmaterial—at different stages of their technology lifecycles. We identified three characteristics of discourse—volume, volatility, and diversity—and examined them for the 10 digital technologies by analyzing their corresponding Wikipedia articles. Our findings show that the discourse around technologies with different levels of materiality is similar in the initial era of the lifecycle but diverges in the two subsequent eras. In addition, we found that the discourse around highly nonmaterial technologies remains elevated for longer time periods, compared to highly material technologies. Based on these results, we put forth propositions that challenge and extend existing research on the relationships between the technological level of materiality, discourse, and trajectories of technology evolution

    Mustertexte zum Strafprozess

    No full text

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to design a guideline for a social media strategy for agile consultants in small B2B companies. This strategy is exemplarily applied to Emendare GmbH & Co. KG. The objective leads to the question: “How can small B2B companies in the consulting industry and their agile consultants use social media in a targeted manner?”. Based on an extensive literature research, all theoretical basics are shown at the beginning. For the elaboration of the social media strategy, independent research and analysis with the help of analysis tools, literature research and a company-internal online survey are used. The literature research at the beginning shows that orientation on a planning process is indispensable for the effective use of social media by companies. For this reason, the planning process of Christopher Zerres will be used as a basis for the further procedure. First, all internal and external circumstances are examined in a situation analysis. Subsequently, goals are defined, strategies are worked out and implementation possibilities are shown. Ultimately, the work shows that the use of social media can be of great benefit to small B2B companies, such as Emendare GmbH & Co. KG, if a strategic approach is followed and continuously monitored
