Continous Performance Monitoring of a Realtime Software System

    No full text
In this Bachelor Thesis, a concept for continuous performance monitoring of a complex software system is developed. The goal is the detection of Performance changes related to modifications of the software. The evaluated system is an 2D Laserscanner and is built on top of the Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoc platform. Since the used Realtime Embedded Linux plays an important role, its performance is measured by defined parameters from the literature. For that purpose, tools are evaluated which can measure these parameters. These tools are then used to read the performance parameters on the device. Beside the Linux performance, runtimes of data frames through the system represent an important performance indicator. For that reason, the processing time of the C++ code will be measured at different points in the processing chain with a software solution. For every software version of the device a measurement is performed automatically for the Linux Performance and the runtimes. The data gathered by this measurement is stored permanently with a file based approach in Artifactory. This saved data is then used to create reports in the form of HTML files. These Reports contain a variety of visualizations for every measurement and for the average values in relation to the software version. These Tasks are executed by a Software written in Python

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is a key tool to have a complete understanding of the costs associated with an investment, as it allows to analyze not only the initial acquisition costs, but also the long-term costs related to operation, maintenance, depreciation, and other factors. In the context of the cement industry, TCO is especially important due to the complexity of the production processes and the wide variety of components and machinery involved in the process. For this reason, a TCO analysis for the cement industry has been conducted in this study, with the objective of showing the different components of the cost of production. This analysis will allow the reader to gain knowledge about these costs, in the industrial model will be to make informed decisions on the adoption of technologies and practices that will allow them to reduce costs in the long run and improve their operational efficiency. In particular, this study pursues to give visibility to technologies and practices that enable the reduction of carbon emissions in cement production, thus contributing to the sustainability of industry and the protection of the environment. By being at the forefront of sustainability issues, the cement industry can contribute to the achievement of environmentally friendly technologies and enable the development of people and industry. The Oxyfuel technology has been selected as a carbon capture solution for the cement industry due to its practical application, low costs, and practical adaptation to non-capture processes. The adoption of this technology allows for a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, which is a crucial factor in achieving sustainability in the cement manufacturing process. Carbon capture storage technologies represent a high investment, although these technologies increase the cost of production, the application of Oxyfuel technology is one of the most economically viable as the cheapest technology per capture according to the comparison. However, this price increase is a technical advantage as the carbon capture efficiency of this technology reaches 90%. This level of efficiency leads to a decrease in taxes for the generation of CO2 emissions, making the cement manufacturing process sustainable

    No full text
The complexity of software projects has increased steadily in recent years. In order to meet the simultaneously increasing demands on code quality, even programming languages that were originally dynamically typed are increasingly relying on static typing. This can take the form of external tools that check the code for type safety in addition to the actual compiler, or alternatively by extending the compilers themselves to embed support for static typing directly in the language. The goal of the etylizer project is to provide such an external tool for the Erlang programming language and to become part of the compiler toolchain in the long run.In this work, the type checker is extended by the ability to verify entire Erlang projects. For this purpose, the symbol table, which etylizer uses internally to resolve references to functions and types from other modules, will be extended. The implementation of the symbol table is adapted in such a way that it is extended at runtime by all symbols needed for the currently tested module. To keep the runtime within limits, an algorithm is developed that recognizes the dependencies between the source code files of the Erlang project and uses them to decide which files have changed since the last run and therefore need to be checked again

    No full text
The Internet of Things is spreading significantly in every sector, including the household, a variety of industries, healthcare, and emergency services, with the goal of assisting all of those infrastructures by providing intelligent means of service delivery. An Internet of Vulnerabilities (IoV) has emerged as a result of the pervasiveness of the Internet of Things (IoT), which has led to a rise in the use of applications and devices connected to the IoT in our day-to-day lives. The manufacture of IoT devices are growing at a rapid pace, but security and privacy concerns are not being taken into consideration. These intelligent Internet of Things devices are especially vulnerable to a variety of attacks, both on the hardware and software levels, which leaves them exposed to the possibility of use cases. This master’s thesis provides a comprehensive overview of the Internet of Things (IoT) with regard to security and privacy in the area of applications, security architecture frameworks, a taxonomy of various cyberattacks based on various architecture models, such as three-layer, four-layer, and five-layer. The fundamental purpose of this thesis is to provide recommendations for alternate mitigation strategies and corrective actions by using a holistic rather than a layer-by-layer approach. We discussed the most effective solutions to the problems of privacy and safety that are associated with the Internet of Things (IoT) and presented them in the form of research questions. In addition to that, we investigated a number of further possible directions for the development of this research

Online Identification of Semiconductor Switching Times in Inverters with Inductive Load Using an FPGA and Potential Separated Comparators

    No full text
The nonlinear behavior of inverters is largely impacted by the interlocking and switching times. A method for online identifying the switching times of semiconductors in inverters is presented in the following work. By being able to identify these times, it is possible to compensate for the nonlinear behavior, reduce interlocking time, and use the information for diagnostic purposes. The method is first theoretically derived by examining different inverter switching cases and determining potential identification possibilities. It is then modified to consider the entire module for more robust identification. The methodology, including limitations and boundary conditions, is investigated and a comparison of two methods of measurement acquisition is provided. Subsequently the developed hardware is described and the implementation in an FPGA is carried out. Finally, the results are presented, discussed, and potential challenges are encountered

    No full text

Improving System Level Safety and Security of a Spectrum Monitoring Unit

    No full text
Microcontrollers are known for their simplicity and flexibility in different complex use cases. They are used in all electrical devices we see every day irrespective of its type, to make them smart. Generally, there is a limitation in case of security (Encryptions) as μC’s have less computational capabilities. In a Spectrum Monitoring Unit, a ATmega128A is used on Main board as a microcontroller to control and power all the sub devices. It makes sure every sub device is working properly as per the rules set / defined in the system. This is also used for supervising the functions of the sub devices in the monitoring unit. This can be used to safeguard the device from internal interruptions like Increase/ Decrease in the Temperatures using sensors to read the values on defined intervals and create alerts accordingly without obstructing / halting the working of the device unless it’s too critical. This thesis focuses on security flaws of a Spectrum Monitoring Unit and uses a Risk Assessment methodology to find potential attacks. To identify the critical risks, the study quantifies these attacks. The investigation also includes creating mitigation strategies specifically designed to deal with the vulnerabilities found. Then, these mitigation techniques are put into practice with the debugging software developed specifically for the device. By methodically identifying and mitigating potential risks, the thesis seeks to improve the product's security condition through an integrated process that offers a strong protection against a range of security concerns

Designing Virtual Conference Venues Through Integration of Game Engine Technologies and Event Management Information Systems

    No full text
In a human-centered society 5.0, participation in events such as trade fairs and academic conferences should fit the consumer’s profile and enable restriction-free participation by addressing potential economic, spatial, temporal, and individual constraints. Global challenges that have emerged or intensified in the past few years have caused a transformation in the event industry. Solutions that make the industry more resilient to future global challenges are now being explored. Within this transformation, the shift from physical to digital spaces gained importance. However, creating an environment that can satisfy the participants’ needs in interaction and immersion remains a challenge for both, academia and the event industry. This paper introduces an integration framework for game engine technologies and event management systems to enable restriction-free participation while strengthening the collaboration between participants in a virtual event. The use of the integration framework is demonstrated in an industry setting where a state-of-the-art game engine accessed through browser technologies is used to recreate a physical conference venue and populate it with content from an open-source event management information system
