Produksi Pigmen Karotenoid oleh Khamir Phaffia rhodozyma yang Diperlakukan dengan Radiasi Sinar UV

Carotenoid pigment is an essential element in aquaculture, since it gives characteristic of color on shrimp and fish. Carotenoid pigments can be produced microbiologically using Paffia rhodozyma. Genetic improvement of the yeast, one of which can be accomplished by radiation mutation, will increase the production of carotenoid pigments. The aims of this study were to mutate P. rhodozyma using UV irradiation and to figure out pigment production by the mutant strains resulting from 30 minute-irradiation. Irradiated culture was incubated in dark condition and plated onto YMA media. Grown mutant colonies were collected in order to test for their pigment production. Pigment production was measured on the basis of extinction coefficient of 1%. The results showed that mutant strain encoded with MUV-1 produced the highest pigment at 179.96 mg/g dry weight cell, higher than the wild type (63.20 mg/g dry weight cell)

A study on the distribution and zonation of mangrove crustacean in Mahakam Delta, East Kalimantan was conducted in July 2004. The three research locations were selected i.e. Muara Ilu, Muara Kaeli, Muara Bayor and Muara Beji. Crustaceans were collected by applying quandran methods (1 x 1 m) in transect lines. The diversity index (H’) of crustacean in Delta Mahakam: 1.382 - 2.028 and the Eveness  index (E) : 0.5877 - 0.7101. The highest diversity index was recorded from muara Kaeli and the highest Evenes index  was in Muara Ilu

The objective of this research is to understand the food habit of the lizard fish (Saurida undosquamis) in Southern South China Sea.For this purpose, purposive random sampling was conducted over 19 stations in trawlable bottom waters using swept area method and sample of 250 of S. undosquamis were examined for their stomach content. The lengths of S. undosquamis under this observation were 15,0-26,8 cm. The result showed that the S. undosquamis is demersal fish that distributed diurnally. The food habit of the S. undosquamis in South China Sea was different between the day and the night. The food habit of S. undosquamis in the day are mainly small demersal fishes, especially Leiognathus leusiscus and Upeneus sulphureus that have the same diurnal distribution pattern as  S. undosquamis. Meanwhile, during the night time, the food habit of  S. undosquamis was dominated by shrimps

Kandungan Bahan Aktif Fomesafen dalam Biji Kedelai dan Kacang Hijau dari Tanaman yang Ditumbuhkan pada Tanah Bekas Paparan Reflex

A research has been conducted to understand the responses of soybean and mungbean to the persistence of Reflex residuals in soils referring to its active substance contents, i.e. fomesafen, in the plants grown in Reflex-exposed soils. The study was carried out experimentally in glass house from June to November 2003 employing Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with treatments arranged factorial. Two factors were used, the first of which was plant species (soybean and mungbean) while the second was Reflex concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100, and 200 ppm). Each treatment combination was replicated three times. The parameters examined comprised of fomesafen contents in the seeds, number of seeds per pod,  weight of 100 seeds, and weight of total seeds. To measure fomesafen contents in the seeds, Gas Liquid Chromatograph with ECD detector and column containing 10% OV-101 chromosorb WHF 80/100 mesh of 2m lengths and 3 mm diameter was applied. Fomesafen residuals in the soils of 5 month persistence had no harmful effect on both soybean and mungbean plants. As well, they had no significant effect on the production variables of both plants. Soybean seeds planted in the 5-month Reflex-exposed soils still contained fomesafen while the corresponding mungbean seeds did not

Aktivitas Harian Monyet Hitam Sulawesi (Macaca nigra) di Cagar Alam Tangkoko-Batuangus, Sulawesi Utara

This study was conducted on Rambo II Group at Tangkoko-Batuangus Natural Preservation, North Sulawesi, from January to February 2004. Data were collected using scan sampling with two minute interval. The results showed that the daily activities of the monkey group consisted of feeding and foraging (34.55%), moving (18.70%), resting (28.65%), and social behaviour (18.10%). It could be concluded that there was no difference between the daily activities of Rambo II Group and those of Rambo Group, the original group before being fragmented into Rambo I and Rambo II Groups
