Film Propaganda: Ikonografi Kekuasaan
As a modern technological invention cinema has numerous potentialities such as economic, social and political power. Fascist regimes as well as film corporations have employed cinema as a tool of propaganda to control and mobilize the masses for the sake of their power longevity. Moreover, the character of film itself is a perfect fascist medium which came from the network of proto-fascism of the twentieth century civilization. By using various genres of Indonesian cinema from different eras as a case study, this article argues that Indonesian propaganda films have monolithic representation which can be described as a cult of "bapakisme" (patronism), "kultur komando" (command culture), marginalisation of women' role in Indonesian revolutionary movement and demonization of progressive women organisation, and glorification of the role of Soeharto in Indonesian revolutionary movement

The impact of labor mobility on rural development has received considerable attention from scholars and planner. On the one hand, some scholars and urban planners believe that labor mobility has negative effects on rural development partly it result in a cause lack of human resources to support regional development activities. In addition, they believe that rural-urban migration has created problems, such as unemployment, the spread of informal activities, poverty, and other social problems. On the other hand, they argue that labor mobility has positive effects on rural development. Labor mobility has been seen as a household survival strategy in response to the socio-economic change resulting from inequality of the market expansion. By involving in the urban labor market, especially in informal activities, migrants are able to share the fruits of development which tend to be concentrated in particular regions (urban areas). Some scholars believe that remittances sent by migrants to their places of origin may stimulate the growth of business activities in these areas. By examining some empirical studies, this article discusses the impact of labor mobility on business opportunities in areas of out-migration

Globalization, namely integration of the world economy into a single market, has been unprecedently affecting every part of the world as technological development has allowed handful bussines effectively control local resourcess. Properity and advantages brought about by globalization, however, is not equally shared, as investment, growth and modern technologies are concentrated mainly in the developed countries. Moreover, developing countries including Indonesia are not only deprived but also excluded from it. Analysis of recent history in Indonesia presented in this article shows that integration into global market even created a deindustrialization process to take place. The level of unemployment and proverty is getting worse as Indonesia increasingly more integrated into the world economy

Indonesia is currently in a serious trouble as public sphere which used to be dominated by the state and currently occupied by the market in order to satisfy the business. The barriers for institutionalize freedom of press for democratizing Indonesia not only appear from the way the state exercise its power but also from the bussines work in the market. In order to solve that problem, the author suggests that developing a strong and independent ethics of journalism is a strategic, yet difficult challenge to be met by journalist community. The challenge essentially is not merely to make sure that the ethics match with the interest of the bussinesses in maximising their profit and to match the interest of the state in making use of coercion, but also to make them culturally compatible

By offering a contradictory perspective, the article aims to review thoughts by Marx and Engels on state. The key contradictory is on the notion of state as either being a dominant social class instrument (instrumentalist view) or a relatively-autonomous institution (structuralist view). As argued by the author, the contradiction is originated from the shifting perspectives adopted by Marx and Engels. The article underlines further the background of which Marx and Engels produced their theories on state, i.e. as a response to the dominating liberal theory on state. Finally, concepts such as 'class' and 'capitalism' are also discussed in light of the need to comprehend their theory on state based on historical materialism framework
