    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PAIR CHECK MODEL TO TEACH READING AT THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 02 BUAY MADANG

    The objective of this Research entitled “The effectiveness of using pair check model to teach reading at the eighth grade student of SMP N 02 Buay Madangâ€. The formulation of this research was there any significant difference between the students who are taught by using pair check model and the students who are taught by using conventional model to teach reading at the eighth grade students of SMP N 02 Buay Madang. The objective of this research was to measure whether or not there was any significant difference between students who are taught teaching reading through pair check model and who are taught through conventional model at the eighth grade students of SMP N 02 Buay Madang. In this research experimental method and true experimental design was used. It was involved two classes they are; experimental class and control class. The population of the research was 88 students of the eighth grade of SMP N 02 Buay Madang, and the sample of the research was 59 that taken through cluster random sampling that divided into two class they are 30 as experimental class and 29 as control class. Meanwhile, for collecting the data used reading test. After that, the data were analyzed by using independent t-test formula. And based on the results of findings, it was found that the mean of post- test score in experimental class was 68.66 and the mean of post- test in control class was 64.65. Beside that, the t-obtained was 0.000 and the t-table with df 57 (59-2) with 95% or 0.05 significant level was 2.0025. Therefore, the research concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because the t- obtained was lowers than the t- table ( 0.000 < 2.0025). It also meant that there was any significant difference between students who are taught through Pair Check Model and who are taught through Conventional Model

    ANALYSIS ON THE USE OF SLANG ON EMINEM’S LYRICS

    This study concerns with the analysis of slang in Eminem’s song lyrics. This study proposes problem are What types of slang language are used in Eminem’s song lyrics?, and What are the meaning of those slang language used Eminem’s song lyrics?. Hopefully, this study will be useful for students of English Department, especially to help them understand slang language. Moreover, the purpose of this study is to find out the types of slang that is used by Eminem’s lyrics. Therefore, this analysis used descriptive method because it is to describe the meaning of slang language in Eminem song lyrics of slang language in them. The data were taken randomly, that there are ten song lyrics. Then, in this study the procedure used in the data collection are: (1) reading and comprehending the lyrics; (2) identifying the slang words used in the lyrics; (3) Marking the slang words found in the lyrics; (4) finding and classifying the meaning of the slang words. Based on the find, the writer found that there are five types of slang. There are cockney slang, society slang, workmen’s slang, and public house slang, slang in public school and university

    ADVERSITY QUOTIENT LEVEL FOR WRITING OUTPUT (A Case Study in Pertamina Lubricant)

    Even so far was found rare interference between Adversity Quotient and academic result, some researchers do investigating how it affects either academic process or its result. Inasmuch the way some investigate it quantitatively, this study was aimed to find out if there was connection between Adversity Quotient of employees toward their writing output qualitatively by purposeful sampling. Data was taken in an English in-house training in Hotel Dreamtel Jakarta in November last year. Two out of six in-house training sessions in Pertamina Lubricants were held to recall participants’ extensive writing ability by displaying examples and doing choral discussion. Then guided questions as stimuli were led, for the participants were able to decide the topic and develop it extensively. Samples were taken to find the highest and the lowest Adversity Quotient score of all participants. Data analysis was done by comparing two scaling styles of Brown-Bailey and Jacob’s. Analytic scoring is done to find out weaknesses and to capitalize strengths. The two scales of Brown-Bailey and Jacob’s consisted of organization, content, grammar, punctuation and style were then figured outand compared (intra-sample and inter-samples). The result shows that Adversity Quotient is not affecting content, grammar, punctuation and style score; somehow, it affects organization development score of participants in some way

    THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND SPEAKING ABILITY

    The aim of the research is to know the correlation between motivation and speaking ability at eighth grade students of SMPN 17 Tangerang. To collect and analyze the data, the researcher used the simple speaking test and questionnaire in order to support the data collected. The result of this research showed that there was improvement on the students’ speaking ability through motivation. It can be seen on the students’ speaking score which had reached the score of Minimum Mastery Criterion-Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). In addition, the students’ score of motivation in learning speaking showed significant improvement. The average of the students’ score in learning speaking was 74.75 and the average of the students’ score of motivation was 77.62. It means that the students have high motivation in learning speaking. From the evidence above, the researcher conclude that there was positive correlation through motivation way in teaching speaking ability. The students more active in the class and the students more interested in developing speaking ability through motivation. As suggestion, the researcher hopes that the teachers have to be able to choose appropriate way or technique in teaching English

    The Major Characters in Gillian Flinn Novel “Sharp Objects” (A Psychoanalysis Freud)

    This research is intended to find the psychological conflict faced by the major character in the Gillian Flinn novel. It is a content analysis study that belongs to qualitative research. The researcher read the novel several times to collect the data and also to analyze the data. It is done several times to get a deeper understanding of the information related to the psychological conflict in the novel. While reading the researcher give a code to the data for description the conflict. The analysis of this research is done using Freud’s theory of psychology, a psychoanalysis Freud. The result shows that there are two kinds of psychological conflicts in ‘Sharp Objects’ novel. They are approach-avoidance conflict and avoidance-avoidance conflict that describing that all the characters have a conflict because of the id, ego, and superego are inconsistency condition

    THE ANALAYSIS OF ELLIPSIS IN THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA FILM BY CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS

    Since the ellipsis as a notion is probably a universal, it should appear in all types feature of language includes in ellipsis elements used. Based on the problems, the researcher wants to investigate what are the ellipsis elements used and how are the ellipsis expressed in The Chronicles of Narnia Film By Clive Staples Lewis?. In order that, they give significance theoretically to analyze, find out, and describe the ellipsis elements used and expressed in The Chronicles of Narnia film, and practically it gives contribution for teachers, students, researcher, and other researchers. The technique used to collect the data was documentation, such as observed by watching The Chronicles of Narnia film. The data was taken from the conversation of dialogue transcript. From the data that have been analyzed, it was found that there were three types of ellipsis elements that occurred in analysis of ellipsis in The Chronicles of Narnia film. The most frequent types were verbal ellipsis occurred 22 times (55%), clausal ellipsis occurred 17 times (42.5%), and nominal ellipsis occurred only once (2.5%). Verbal ellipsis was the most productive types. It occurred more than 50 % of all the types the analysis of ellipsis in The Chronicle of Narnia film

    The title of this study was the effectiveness of using cooperative script method to teach students speaking ability at the eighth grade students’ of SMP Negeri 1 Buay Bahuga. The formulation problem of this study was “Is there any significant difference between the students who are taught by using Cooperative Script method and the students who are taught by using conventional method to teach speaking abilityâ€. And the objective of the study was to find out whether or not significance between the students who are taught by using Cooperative Script method and the students who are taught by using conventional method to teach speaking ability at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Buay Bahuga in academic year 2015/2016. In this study was quantitative reseacrh, the writer used true experimental method and experimental design. Therefore, there were two groups those were control group who are taught using conventional method and experimental group who are taught using cooperative script, that was chosen by using cluster random sampling in collecting the data, the population of this study were 153 students and samples were 50 students. The data obtained from Independent ttest analysis by using SPSS 20, between the result of posttest in experimental group and control group. Based on the calculation by using Independent ttest in SPSS 20, the writer found that tobtained was higher than ttable (5.005 > 2.021) at the significant level α=0.05 in two tailed testing. It meant that there were any significant differences between experimental group and control group. So, the null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that cooperative script method was significantly effective in teaching speaking ability at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Buay Bahuga

    This study aimed at finding out whether or not drill tenhnique influence the students’ irregular verbs of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur. The population of this study was 195 students of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang OKU Timur. From the population, there were 40 students taken as sample of experimental group and 40 students were as control group. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling. In carrying out the research, the writer used match t-test for analizing the data. The result of this research show that drill technique is effective to teach irregular verbs at the tenth year students of SMA Negeri 1 Buay Madang

    TEACHING CAUSATIVE BY USING INDUCTIVE WAY

    The main problem of this study is, “Is it effective to use inductive way in teaching causative to the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Rawa Bening OKU Timur?â€The method used in this study was pre-experimental method in one group pretest posttest design. The population was the eleventh garade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Rawa Bening OKU Timur. The total number was 115 students, consisting three classes. The writer took one class as sample by using convenience non random sampling. It was XI.IPA.I, the total number was 40 students. It was found that the average score in pre-test was 6.29, the average score in post-test was 7.00.The data was analyzed by using matched t-test formula. The result showed the t-obtained was 4.73. On the other hand, the critical value was 1.684 in df (39). Here, t- obtained was higher than t-table. It means that teaching causative by using inductive way to the eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Rawa Bening OKU Timur was effective

    Gallery Walk Strategy in Classroom : Pathway to Improve EFL Students’ Reading Achievement

    This classroom action research was intended to improve the first year students’ reading achievement using gallery walk strategy at SMKN 1 KALIPURO Banyuwangi in the 2016/2017. The subjects of this research were class X NKN 1. This class was determined purposively because most of the students got low score of the reading process and could not achieve the students passing level. The classroom action research consisted of one cycle with four meetings. The data about the students reading achievement were collected through reading exercise, reading test and observation. Based on the observation in the first meetings, there were 60% or 19 out of 32 students who showed a positive attitude in teaching learning process through gallery walk strategy. Then, it increases to 87% or 28 students who showed a positive attitude in teaching learning process using gallery walk strategy in the last meeting. The result of reading exercise from first meeting until the last meeting also increase, from 50% or 16 students in the first meeting to 75% or 24 students in the last meeting. The result of reading test in cycle one showed that there were 26 students or 81% of the students achieved the target. To sum up, the use of gallery walk strategy is effective to improve students’ reading achievement and students’ participation in teaching and learning proces
