    Measuring EFL Learners’ Ability in Writing Correlation between Linguistic Language Variables and Writing Proficiency

    This study was administered to examine the correlation between linguistic language variables and writing proficiency among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in grades 1-4 and grade 8. 100 students were participating, whose writing proficiency was evaluated based on five aspects: content, fluency, sentence formation, usage, and mechanics. Meanwhile, students' linguistic skill was measured using five indicators: cognitive, composition, vocabulary, style, and sociocultural. The relationship between linguistic language skills and writing ability was examined using a developmental scale model, and which results indicated a positive correlation in all grades. The findings of this study add to the body of knowledge regarding the relationship between linguistic language skills and writing ability and its implications

    A Study of Speech Style in The “Raya And The Last Dragon” Movie By Carlos Lopez Estrada And Don Hall

    This study discussed about of Speech style in the movie “Raya and the Last Dragon” By Carlos Lopez Estrada and Don Hall. It finds out the types of speech styles used in the movie. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed using Descriptive Qualitative analysis namely the translation of the analysis using the study of speech style theory. The data analysis showed that there were many types of speech style in the movie, namely frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. Moreover, it can be concluded that in this movie is more dominant using casual style which occurs 22 times (36,65%), the second rank is the intimate style occurs 15 times (24,59%). The next is consultative style occurs 14 times (22,96%), formal style occurs 7 times (11,47%), and the last type is frozen style only 3 times (4,92%)

    The Attraction of the Kampung Inggris for Students as Target Areas Improves English Speaking Skills

    Proficiency in speaking is considered the most crucial among the four language skills, demanding the full attention and concentration of students. This study aims to assess the perceptions of EFL undergraduate students at Universitas Syiah Kuala regarding the impact of English Camp on their speaking skills. Employing qualitative research methods, the research involved seven undergraduate students selected through purposive sampling. Interviews were utilized to gather data from participants who had attended Kampung Inggris Pare, an English Camp Program. The findings indicate that Kampung Inggris Pare contributes significantly to the enhancement of students' speaking skills. Notable improvements were observed in vocabulary mastery, pronunciation, speech fluency, grammar proficiency, and overall comprehension abilities, leading to increased self-confidence. These elements collaboratively play a role in assisting students in overcoming challenges they encounter during verbal communication. The research underscores the pivotal role of English camps in elevating speaking skills, encompassing the introduction of new vocabulary, enhanced pronunciation, increased fluency, heightened self-confidence, improved comprehension, and refined grammar. Consequently, these advancements reflect positively on students' academic performance and their communicative abilities in daily life

    Learning English Using Narative Text at Junior High School

    This article discusses of the teacher's ways and methods of teaching narrative text in English classes at the junior high school level. Learning English is not a prioritized language of communication, so learning literature is one of the teacher's problems in the classroom. Therefore, this article aims to find out the problems using narrative text and solutions to overcome them. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative through interviews with a teacher at SMPN 1 Kedunggalar. The results of the research indicated that the most obvious problem of using narrative text was the lack of students' understanding in several aspects such as: the meaning of vocabulary, sentences, and delivery during the lesson. Even though there are some problems faced by students, they will later gain knowledge of language both linguistics and introduction to new cultures when learning English using narrative text. This is all thanks to the teacher trying to create an interactive classroom atmosphere so that literature and language learning can be conveyed and well received

    This research paper titled "Semiotic Analysis of Modern Drink Advertisements on The Palangkaraya Cafe Instagram Account" delves into the realm of modern drink advertisements in the digital age. It explores the significance of semiotics in understanding the hidden messages conveyed by advertisements in the context of cafes. The study aims to answer two main research questions: What kinds of signs exist in modern drink advertisements, and what meanings are conveyed by these signs? The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing interviews and documentation as data collection methods. The study's primary focus is on three cafes in the Palangkaraya area: Taguk Ha Cafe, Nakaya Cafe, and Yomi Cafe, with a specific emphasis on modern drink advertisements from their Instagram accounts. Data analysis follows a systematic process, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verifying. The researcher uses Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to analyze the signs in the advertisements, distinguishing between icons, indices, and symbols. The result of this research shows In essence, language and symbolic signifiers in advertising transcend the boundaries of brand communication. They become the conduits through which desires are kindled, emotions are stirred, and aspirations are awakened in the audience. Whether through carefully crafted language or the strategic use of symbols, advertisers have at their disposal a rich palette of tools to engage consumers on a profound and deeply meaningful level, thereby forging connections that extend beyond the realm of commerce

    Lexical Ambiguity in the “The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood” Novel by Howard Pyle

    This study aims to find the types and amount of Lexical Ambiguity in the novel "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" by Howard Pyle. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique used in this study has several steps, namely understanding lexical ambiguity, reading the novel, finding out lexical ambiguity words in the novel, and making a note of the lexical ambiguity words of the novel. The data source for this research is the novel "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" by Howard Pyle. The focus of the research is homonyms, homographs, and homophones. Based on the results of data analysis the use of the word lexical ambiguity as much as 73 data. The first number of findings, the use of homonyms was 19 findings (26%). This word is two or more words that have the same pronunciation but different meanings. Second, Homographs with a total of 30 findings (41%). This word has the same spelling, but its pronunciation and meaning are different. and the Third, Homophone with a total of 24 findings (33%). These words are spelled differently but have a similar pronunciation. Thus, from this amount, it can be concluded that the novel The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle found many uses of the word lexical ambiguity with a total of 73 data findings, and the most domineering use of the word is found in the use of Homographs with 30 data findings with a percentage of 41 %

    This thesis is entitled "Students' Perception on the Use of Video Conference Application (Zoom Cloud Meetings) in Fostering EFL Learners' Speaking Ability Speech".  The presented study aimed to find out students' perception of using a video conference application (Zoom Cloud Meetings) in the virtual speech class of Nurul Huda University Sukaraja Buay Madang Oku Timur. The method used in this study was the descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study were: that using Zoom Cloud Meetings as an online platform for conducting English speech classes was adequately effective, students also showed a positive response to using the Zoom Cloud Meetings application. So that online learning can run smoothly. There are only a few differences in activities that happened during the English speech virtual classroom and English speech conventional classroom, the problems that often occur during the class are poor internet connection and internet quota, and some solutions implemented make it better for the students to looking for a strategic place with the stable internet signal inside, sharing each notes of the material, and decided to use Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) in their houses

    An Analysis of Students' Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text

    This study was conducted to analyze students' reading comprehension of narrative texts. A qualitative descriptive method with observations, interviews, and documentation is utilized as instruments. The results showed that students had a variety of abilities in understanding narrative texts, from the interviews and existing observational data. Moreover, it was found that 11 students understood this material because they could explain the meaning, cite the examples, mention the general structure, and determine the general structure of narrative texts in the text entitled "Lake Toba." It was also found that four students understood this material quite well, but imperfectly because they did not mention all the general structures of narrative texts; the other five students did not understand this material because, during the interview, they could not explain the meaning, examples, and general structure of this material. based on the student's ability to answer the questions posed by the researcher

    The Implementation of English Online Learning in Rural-Area

    This article's goal is to explain how well English may be learned online. The research methodology for this study combines qualitative descriptive analytic approaches with descriptive methods. Qualitative research describes in depth and detail and generates data in the form of spoken or written words from the subjects being studied. Through qualitative research methods like in-depth interviews, it is possible to comprehend the behaviors of the subject and object under study. The interview form is conducted online utilizing the WhatsApp app due to online circumstances. 29 students from class VIII of SMP Nur Hidayah, Ulak Embacang, and Musi Banyuasin served as the primary data sources, while secondary data sources included books, journals, and library materials linked to this subject. 26 of the 29 pupils in class VIII at SMP Nur Hidayah Ulak Embacang approved with online learning, according to the results. The others disagreed because their families' circumstances were still less favorable. The discussion leads to the conclusion that online English learning is a very efficient approach for learning the language. It is evident from the accomplishment of the language learning objective, namely the improvement of English language abilities

Her strangeness made friends at her school bully her. The researchers' goal is to investigate the main symptoms of trauma and describe the trauma experiences in this novel. The researcher's method is descriptive qualitative. Supporting data sources include the novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, online journals, theses and articles. The author refers to individual psychological theories that are used to analyze data.
