This bachelor thesis examines fandoms in general, book fandoms specifically, which represent one of the most important and powerful consumer groups book publishers have, as well as how they can be integrated into the value chains of publishers that publish fiction books. The goals of this thesis are to find out how German-speaking book fandoms behave, what their attitudes and motives
are, and how they can be incorporated into the processes of value creation.
Several methods were used to achieve these goals. Relevant specialist literature and existing research were analysed and an online survey amongst German-speaking members of fandoms was conducted.
Furthermore, experts from the book industry were interviewed to detect current standards of fandom involvement, as well as to get their opinion on several ideas of how fandoms could be integrated.
The results were that book fandoms long to be integrated strongly and interactively into production and distribution processes. In addition, they also want publishers to take part in fandom activities.
To date, fiction publishers do not live up to this demand because they do not consider the specific characteristics of fandoms to be important.
This unutilised potential can be used beneficially for both sides by integrating fandoms based on the idea and principle of interactive value creation: Fandoms can participate and engage in the creation and distribution of books, which then helps publishers to secure competitive advantages, as well much higher customer satisfaction and loyalty within the important consumer group of fandoms.
This bachelor thesis is useful for publishers of fiction books in German-speaking countries so they can understand fandoms and integrate them effectively and sustainably
Media-enhanced cooking using a hands-free device - Evaluated through a HoloLens application
Head Mounted Displays (HMD) are increasingly used in various industries. But apart from the industry environment, the potentials of HMDs in a private environment like at home has been rel- atively unexplored so far. What daily tasks can these help with, in the home kitchen for example?
The aim of this thesis is to obtain knowledge about the usefulness of such an HMD, the HoloLens, in combination with an application, while following a new recipe. Therefore a prototype applica- tion for the HoloLens got developed which guides a user through the cooking of a sushi burger by using multimedia content.
With a mixed method design, consisting of quantitative and qualitative methods, the HoloLens in combination with an application was evaluated by 14 participants.
Not only the weight of the device was a problem for users. The test also revealed that the display is darkening the view and participants tend to look below the glasses. An advantage is indeed to reach the next cooking step without the need of using hands and always having in sight what needs to be done next. Positive feedback was given as well for the application. Through voice control the user communicates to a character which will guide through the recipe by videos and text.
If in future the technical characteristics of HMD devices will improve, an application in this con- text will be of advantage in order to simplify learning a new recipe. This device, in combination with an application, could help early-middle stage cognitive impaired people and blind people to cook.
Loss of B-cell lymphoma 2 immunohistochemical expression in endometrial hyperplasia: A specific marker of precancer and novel indication for treatment: A systematic review and meta-analysis
INTRODUCTION:
Endometrial hyperplasia is differentiated into benign or premalignant. Two histological classifications are used for this purpose: World Health Organization (WHO) classification, based on cytological atypia, disregarding glandular complexity, and endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) classification, based on several different parameters. B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) loss has been studied as immunohistochemical marker with the aim of improving the differential diagnosis between benign and premalignant hyperplasia. We aimed to evaluate: (A) Bcl-2 loss as marker of endometrial precancer, by assessing it in proliferative endometrium, benign hyperplasia, premalignant hyperplasia, and endometrial cancer; (B) the diagnostic accuracy of Bcl-2 in the differential diagnosis between benign and premalignant endometrial hyperplasia; (c) how the results change according to the histological classification and the thresholds of Bcl-2 expression used.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
Electronic databases were searched from their inception to March 2018. All studies assessing Bcl-2 immunohistochemistry in endometrial specimens were included.
RESULTS:
In total, 20 observational studies assessing 1,278 specimens were included. Bcl-2 loss rates were not significantly different between proliferative endometrium and benign hyperplasia (P = 0.12) and between premalignant hyperplasia and endometrial cancer (P = 0.53). Among hyperplasias, Bcl-2 loss was significantly associated with premalignancy, according to both the WHO (OR = 4.39; P < 0.00001) and EIN classifications (OR = 6.07; P = 0.01), and also with architecture complexity (OR = 2.06; P = 0.02). Using the WHO classification, Bcl-2 loss showed low diagnostic accuracy in detecting premalignant hyperplasia (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.708), with a sensitivity of 0.41, a specificity of 0.81, a positive likelihood ratio of 3.22, and a negative likelihood ratio of 0.69. Using the EIN classification, accuracy was high (AUC = 0.938), with a sensitivity of 0.18, a specificity of 0.97, a positive likelihood ratio of 5.16 and a negative likelihood ratio of 0.86. Thresholds of Bcl-2 expression not involving a complete loss showed lower diagnostic accuracy with a slight increase in sensitivity, but a severe decrease in specificity.
CONCLUSIONS:
B-cell lymphoma 2 loss is a marker of endometrial precancer, with a high specificity and high diagnostic accuracy if the EIN classification is used. Thresholds of Bcl-2 expression not involving a complete loss should not be considered. Bcl-2 loss in endometrial hyperplasia may be a novel indication for treatment when precancerous features are ambiguous in a histological examination. Bcl-2 loss correlates better with EIN classification than with the WHO classification, suggesting that glandular complexity is an important precancerous feature

Left-liver Adult-to-Adult Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Can It Be Improved? A Retrospective Multicenter European Study
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the European experience after Adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation using the left liver (LL-aLDLT).
SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA:
LL-aLDLT decreases donor risk but provides a smaller graft that increases recipient risk as compared with right liver (RL-aLDLT). However, there is little knowledge of results obtained after LL-aLDLT in Europe.
METHODS:
This is a European multicenter retrospective study which aims to analyze donor and recipient outcomes after 46 LL-aLDLT.
RESULTS:
Seventy-six percent of the grafts were harvested by minimally invasive approach. Mean donor hospital stay was 7.5 ± 3.5 days. Donor liver function was minimally impaired, with 36 donors (78.3%) without any 90-day complication, and 4 (8.7%) presenting major complications. One, 3, and 5-year recipient survival was 90.9%, 82.7%, and 82.7%, respectively. However, graft survival was of 59.4%, 56.9%, and 56.9% at 1, 3, and 5 years respectively, due to a 26.1% urgent liver retransplantation (ReLT) rate, mainly due to SFSS (n = 5) and hepatic artery thrombosis (HAT, n = 5). Risk factor analysis for ReLT and HAT showed an association with a graft to body weight ratio (GBWR) 0.6% was associated with a lower ReLT rate (0% vs. 33%, P = 0.044).
CONCLUSIONS:
Our analysis showed low donor morbidity and preserved liver function. Recipient outcomes, however, were hampered by a high ReLT rate. A strict selection of both donor and recipients is the key to minimize graft loss

From Graphics to Architecture through the Brand’s Monograms / Dalla grafica alla architettura attraverso i monogrammi della marca
