Predicting Young Adults’ Romantic Relationship Quality: Sibling Ties and Adult Attachment Styles
Young adults’ romantic relationships have continually emerged as a significant area of study in psychological research. The authors examine possible associations between a measure of attitudes toward sibling relationships, a measure of adult attachment styles, and a measure of romantic relationship quality in a sample of 350 Italian university students (68.6% females, 31.4% males; age range 19-30 years, M age = 23.6 years, SD = 3.2). The authors tested the following hypotheses: that the perceived relationship quality between siblings was positively correlated with adult attachment styles and romantic relationship quality, that the frequent use of behaviors associated with adult attachment styles was negatively correlated with romantic relationship quality, and that attitudes toward sibling relationships and adult attachment styles predicted romantic relationship quality. Findings only partly supported the hypotheses, indicating that more positive attitudes toward sibling relationships and lower use of behaviors associated with avoidant attachment style influenced and predicted higher romantic relationship quality
L'Italia sovranista e la sfida all'Europa.
Mothers, Fathers the Formation of Daughters in Ivy Compton-Burnett: A Literary and Pedagogic Analysis
Family relations within late Victorian/Edwardian bourgeois family represent the core of the vast majority of the novels by Ivy Compton-Burnett. This author managed to put in evidence all the contradictions and the hypocrisy which constituted the inner nature of Victorian and Edwardian family. From this perspective, the main topic approached in this paper will be the relationship between dysfunctional parents, especially mothers, and their daughters in a small yet representative corpus of works by Ivy Compton-Burnett including some of her most prominent novels: Brothers and Sisters (1929), A House and its Head (1935) and Parents and Children (1941). As has been argued, in several works by Burnett, great importance is given to the figure of the governess who usually tends to act as a replacement for an absent or not loving mother. Furthermore, in Parents and Children, the figure of the eldest daughter who acts as a mother for her younger siblings and is in competition with her own mother is displayed. As has been pointed out by several scholars, the distance between mothers and daughters represents one of the pivotal issues of Victorian educational system and, generally speaking, the role of the mother is of crucial importance for the development of the subject formation of daughters. This leads us to the aim of this paper, which is the analysis, both from a literal a psychoanalytic and pedagogical standpoint, with particular reference to feminist critical pedagogy, of the role of the mother and of family relations on the personal developments of daughters during the Victorian age through the lens of Ivy Compton-Burnett’s novels. To this purpose, we will associate the close reading of the texts giving also great importance to the style, a crucial feature in Compton-Burnett’s works, supported by gender-oriented literary criticism and a pedagogical perspective

An investigation on the morphology of a new coordination polymer via change effective factors based on eco-friendly sonochemical synthesis; new precursor for the preparation of cadmium(II) oxide
A new 2D cadmium(II) coordination polymer (CP) formulated as [Cd(NCS)(L)(EtOH)2]n(1) [L = isonicotinic acid] was prepared by the branch tube method and the sonochemical method was applied to prepare submicro and micro structures of CP1 under various conditions (different solvents and times). The sonochemical products were characterized by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of a single crystal X-ray analysis of compound 1s how that Cd2+ ion is 6-co-ordinated, isonicotinato and thiocyanato both act as bidentate ligands, and the coordination sphere of the metal ion is octahedrally distorted. The effects of solvents and reaction time on the morphology and size of the sonochemical products were studied, and the results indicate that an increase in time leads to a decrease in the size of the submicro and micro-structures while a change in the solvent has almost no effects on their size

A Comparison of the Learning Curves of Laparoscopic Liver Surgeons in Differing Stages of the IDEAL Paradigm of Surgical Innovation
To compare the learning curves of the self-taught "pioneers" of laparoscopic liver surgery (LLS) with those of the trained "early adopters" in terms of short- and medium-term patient outcomes to establish if the learning curve can be reduced with specific training.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA:
It is expected that a wider adoption of a laparoscopic approach to liver surgery will be seen in the next few years. Current guidelines stress the need for an incremental, stepwise progression through the learning curve in order to minimize harm to patients. Previous studies have examined the learning curve in Stage 2 of the IDEAL paradigm of surgical innovation; however, LLS is now in stage 3 with specific training being provided to surgeons.
METHODS:
Using risk-adjusted cumulative sum analysis, the learning curves and short- and medium-term outcomes of 4 "pioneering" surgeons from stage 2 were compared with 4 "early adapting" surgeons from stage 3 who had received specific training for LLS.
RESULTS:
After 46 procedures, the short- and medium-term outcomes of the "early adopters" were comparable to those achieved by the "pioneers" following 150 procedures in similar cases.
CONCLUSIONS:
With specific training, "early adapting" laparoscopic liver surgeons are able to overcome the learning curve for minor and major liver resections faster than the "pioneers" who were self-taught in LLS. The findings of this study are applicable to all surgical specialties and highlight the importance of specific training in the safe expansion of novel surgical practice
