On the metabolites produced by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides a fungus proposed for the Ambrosia artemisiifolia biocontrol; spectroscopic data and absolute configuration assignment of colletochlorin A

Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. is responsible for serious allergies induced on humans. Different approaches for its control were proposed during the COST Action FA1203 “Sustainable management of Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Europe” (SMARTER). Fungal secondary metabolites often show potential herbicidal activity. Three phytotoxins were purified from the fungal culture filtrates of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, isolated from infected leaves of A. artemisiifolia. They were identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods as colletochlorin A, orcinol and tyrosol (1, 2 and 3). The absolute configuration 6’R to colletochlorin A was assigned for the first time applying the advanced Mosher’s method. When assayed by leaf-puncture on A. artemisiifolia only 1 caused the appearance of large necrosis. The same symptoms were also induced by 1 on ambrosia plantlets associated with plant wilting. On Lemna minor, colletochlorin A caused a clear fronds browning, with a total reduction in chlorophyll content

Biological responses of white sea bream (Diplodus sargus, Linnaeus 1758) and sardine (Sardine pilchardus, Walbaum 1792) exposed to heavy metal contaminated water

The aim of the present work was to assess, by rapid approach, the detoxification capacity and the genotoxicity caused by exposure of some marine fish to polluted waters. The fish species selected for the study: White sea bream (Diplodus sargus, Linnaeus 1758) and sardine (Sardine pilchardus, Walbaum 1792) were collected from different sites of Alexandria, El-Max bay and Bahary, in Egypt. Results of heavy metals analysis in sediment were: Al>Fe>Cr>Pb>Hg>Cd. Concerning detoxification analysis, fish collected from El-Max bay encounter the highest liver enzyme activity of Glutathione S-Transferase. Also, genotoxicity was evaluated in liver, gills and muscle of fishes collected and the results indicated that fish collected from El-Max bay has the highest levels of comets (DNA damage) when compared to the other sites selected as reference. It can be concluded from our results that the different tissues examined have alteration of level of detossification and comets as result of different degree of oxidative pollution insult. These biological responses may be considered for rapid extimation of food oxidative damage as well as for environmental quality

Exploratory GIS Analysis via Spatially Weighted Regression Trees

The challenging goal of the Moving Towards Adaptive Governance in Complexity: Informing Nexus Security (MAGIC) project is to quantitatively enlighten the nexus among energy, food, water and land use toward informed governance inside EU aimed at long term environmental feasibility, economic viability and social desirability. Within the framework of recursive partitioning algorithms by tree-based methods, this paper provides an application on a real Geographic Information System (GIS) dataset regarding the irrigation communities in Almeria, Spain. We propose to build an explorative regression tree – spatially weighted – aiming at classifying the specific consumption of water (per hectare) of the farming communities based on either water management areas and different mix of sources for irrigation water (surface, groundwater, waste water, desalination)

    Geographies of Global History

The paper, focusing on the pivotal spatial rethinking in global history, briefly reconstructs some implications of the assumption of an original spatial perspective in the global historical research from its beginnings to nowadays. The application of a constructivist perspective leads, on the one hand, to the choice of units of analysis basically alien to any form of centrism and to the hierarchies of meta-geographies; on the other hand, to the deconstruction of the traditional nation-state frame, historicized and reconceptualised in new ways in a global perspective. Moreover, after a rich debate developed in the years 2006-2015 about issues of space and scale, new life has come to global history through a more warned empirical research, devoting more attention to contexts, social actors and primary sources

New O-Glycosidation Methods for the Synthesis of Unnatural Oligosaccharides” XLII

    No full text
an efficient de novo route enabling all eight L-hexoses synthesis has been developed by Guaragna et al. [3,4] based on the synthesis of the key intermediates 3 and 4 starting from the homologating agent 1. Based on capability of these sulfur-containing moieties to activate neighboring acetal functions, [5] as proved by the equilibrium existing between 3 and 4 (FIGURE 2), [6] their unprecedented activation, respectively at C1 and C4 positions, has been herein exploited to make them glycosyl donors into O-glycosidation reactions for the synthesis of di- and oligosaccharides structures containing enantiopure L-hexoses under extremely mild acidic conditions and without the need to install leaving group at the anomeric positions

Liberi professionisti e mafie.
