The Purpose of this paper is to understand the heterosexist harassment faced by Lesbian and Gay employees at the workplace in an Indian context where gender stereotypes are rooted throughout society. It also aims at exploring the coping mechanisms used by these gay/lesbian employees to deal with this harassment. In-depth interviews of six lesbian/gay employees from the NCR region of India were conducted for collecting data and information through open-ended questionnaire. The samples were selected through purposive non-probability sampling technique. Each interview has been explained through a case study by identifying themes and patterns based on cross-case synthesis, pattern matching and explanation building among them. The results revealed that the Lesbian/gay employees frequently experienced bullying, unwanted jokes, discrimination based on sexual orientation, sexual assault, dismissal from the job, social ostracism and isolation. Several coping strategies were identified which help the lesbian/gay employees to deal with these heterosexist harassments at workplace. Four broad categories of coping strategies were identified as support seeking, confrontation, inaction, and quitting. It was also revealed that participants resorted to secrecy and withdrawal as a way of managing labeling and stigma and to further avoid the subsequent heterosexual abuse. The findings of the study will advance the knowledge in the heterosexist harassments and coping mechanism used by lesbian/gay employees at workplace. The results contribute to meaningful social change to build safe work environments for Lesbian and gay employees

Stromatolites - A life form that has witnessed the entire evolution of our planet

    Get PDF
Life on Earth was born at least 3.7 billion years ago, but since then the number of living things has grown exponentially. Surprisingly, some of the earliest life forms on our planet still exist and not just in fossilized form - stromatolites - a life form that has witnessed the entire evolution of our planet can still be discovered in certain areas of the globe. Stromatolites are living fossils, the oldest life forms on Earth. Their existence spans an incredible period - stromatolites have existed for 75% of the period since the formation of the Solar System. They are defined simply as rock structures built by colonies of microscopic organisms that do photosynthesis. These organisms are known as cyanobacteria. As the soil settled in shallow water, bacteria began to grow on it, joining the sedimentary particles and building additional layers until mounds formed. These constructions of microorganisms in the earth are perhaps the essential element in the emergence of more complex life on earth - through their respiration, they produced and developed oxygen on Earth until it came to form 20% of the Earth's atmosphere. Using the Sun as an energy reservoir, stromatolites have transformed the planet into a place capable of supporting all life forms, simple or complex

    Get PDF
Helical milling is one of the high-performance and high-quality hole manufacturing activities with strong prospects for the automotive and aerospace industries. Literature suggests chip geometry plays a significant role in optimizing machining operations. In the present study, a mechanistic approach is used to estimate the chip geometry, cutting force and power/energy consumption concerning the tool rotation angle. Experiments are conducted at different levels of spindle rotational speed, cutter orbital speed and axial depth of cuts using 8 and 10 mm diameter mill cutters. Experimental results for cutting speed in X, Y and Z directions are measured. A hybrid approach, which combines the Taguchi method and Graph theory and matrix approach (GTMA) technique is used and optimized process parameters. The highest aggregate utility process parameters are met by 2000 rpm spindle speed, 50 rpm orbital speed and 0.2 mm axial cutting depth during helical milling of AISI D2 steel. FEM simulation is used for predicting the chip thickness, cutting forces and power consumption and also validated the optimization

    Get PDF
The author's research bases on studies of Ducoffe (1996), Tsang, Ho and Liang (2002), Murat, Sibel and Ceyda (2016) and Firat (2019), proposed factors affecting the value of online advertising include informativeness, entertainment, credibility, irritation, and social interaction. Two hundred ninety valid answer sheets of young people aged 18 - 25 in Vietnam answered through Google Form are analyzed with SPSS 20 software to verify the reliability of Cronbach's Alpha, EFA, and regression correlation analysis. This research also uses the test of variance to determine whether there are differences between the demographic factors and the value of online advertising. The research results show that all five factors that affect advertising value, from the strongest to the weakest, are credibility, social interaction, informativeness, entertainment, and irritation. It is identical to the results of Ducoffe (1996). Thus, the research shows that credibility has the most substantial influence on the value of online advertising, whereas some other studies have suggested that that factor is entertainment (Tsang, Ho & Liang, 2002; Murat, Sibel & Ceyda, 2016) or value information (Cho & Choen, 2004). Especially the study also discovered that the ability of social interactions also has the affection with the value of advertising. This result receives the similarity from Ko, Cho and Roberts (2005) research. Simultaneously, the results also discover that demographic factors such as gender, age, and income do not differ from the value of online advertising. In the practical, aspect the results can help advertisers have a suitable strategy and improve advertising effectiveness. So that enterprises could attract more customers

Changes in innovation and technology, globalization processes, increasing competition determine changes in the activities of learning organizations (educational institutions). Effective management helps manage these changes and meet emerging challenges. The concept of learning organizations is closely related to future perspectives, perceptions of an institution that is constantly evolving and changing. Those changes affect not only the institution itself but also its employees who need to change, improve, and meet the challenges that arise with it. In order to overcome such changes, not only the purposeful lifelong learning is important, but also the self-directed learning. In both cases, this can only be achieved with innovative and focused leadership that facilitates a variety of forms of employee learning. The essence of effective management in learning organizations is related to the goals pursued jointly both by the organization itself and its employees because otherwise it will be difficult to improve and change. With this in mind, the aim of the article is to identify effective management solutions that help to improve the self-learning of employees in this case the teachers. To achieve the goal, the tasks are formulated to discuss the concepts of effective management and learning organization, to describe the theoretical aspects of self-learning; to reveal the self-learning strategies of the learning organization which is the school. Thus, the research highlighted the opportunities provided by the effective management of learning organizations, reflected in self-learning, for the development of employees so that their skills and knowledge are constantly updated. Emphasized self-learning strategies - practical work, observation, communication and collaboration, reflection, reading - are preliminary guidelines for creating a suitable learning environment within the organization
