No full textMany countries open up to capital flows and commodity as part of globalization. On the other hand, many countries are looking at migration, related to cultural differences, as a threat to sovereignty and national identity. In the context of international migration, Indonesia has a fairly complex position. Analysing the relationship between international migration and foreign policy, the two of Myron Weiner framework that we can use are the security / stability framework (SSF) and the international political economy framework (IPEF). In the end, based on that two frameworks can be seen that the migration process affects foreign policy goals and the other way, like two sides of coin. Both the framework can serve as the basis to think that both sending and receiving countries can take a significant opportunity.Keywords :globalization, international migration, foreign policy, domestic polic

No full textAbstract: Economic development gap has divided ASEAN countries into two groups namedASEAN-6 and CLMV. Yet, ASEAN is still in the process to establish ASEAN Economic Community(AEC) in 2015. And in attempt to establish AEC, equitable economic development becomes one of themain characteristics in AEC Blueprint. A debate then arises whether ASEAN is plausible to establisheconomic community successfully or not. In fact, development gap does not always obstruct theestablishment of a community. As for an example, development gap also exists in European region butit is not regarded as a serious problem that can hinder European countries to establish European Union.This study is aimed at discussing the influences of economic development gap among ASEANcountries towards the process of AEC establishment. In this study, dependent development theory ofCardoso is used to analyze the development gap in ASEAN. Based on further analysis, it is found thatthe development gap in ASEAN is influenced by the international economic structure. Data shows thatASEAN countries are integrated (in?)to international structure through the foreign direct investmentfrom the center states. Intentions And Motive In Augustine’s Just War Teaching
No full textAbstract: Augustine, one of the greatest christian thinkers, tries to reconcile the love of neighborsand justification of wars. He develops a radically different biblical interpretation than those of earlyChurch Fathers who believe in incompatibility of Jesus\u27s central teaching of loving neighbour andChristian participation in warfare. Augustine repudiates such incompatibility. This paper investigatesthe teaching of Augustine\u27s just war teaching formulated in his masterpiece The City of God. In thelight of this tradition, this paper specifically adresses the intentions and the primary motive of the justwar. This paper argues that both the intentions and motive have to be distinctive. Accordingly, war isjustified if it meets two distinctive conditions. First, the goal of the war is to bring peace, restorejustice, and and punish wrong doers. Second, the war should be based on Christian charity or love ofneighbours. This paper begins by introducing the core issue of Christian understanding of its positionon warfare, followed by brief profile of Augustine. Then, it addresses Augustine\u27s interpretation ofJesus\u27 teaching and finally it analyses Augustine\u27s just war teaching by focusing on intentions andmotive. Two cases, NATO Interventions in Kosovo 1999 and Libya 2011, are also included to illustratethe principle of Right Intention and Motive. China in the South China Sea Dispute: Between Status Quo and Revisionist
No full textAbstract: The paper is trying to look whether China is a status quo power or a revisionist power in theSouth China Sea dispute based on status quo indicator developed by Johnston and perspectives onconformity towards norms. Meanwhile, this paper argues that China is neither a status quo nor arevisionist in the South China Sea dispute to the extent of its compliance with the Declaration on theConduct of Parties (DoC) in the South China Sea. Using status quo indicators developed by Johnstonand also the perspectives on conformity and violation towards norm, it is found that China\u27s position inthe South China Sea is determined by its interests over the disputed area. A moral dilemma betweenexpected behaviors in the South China Sea based on China\u27s involvement in the DoC and China\u27s otherself interests. Moreover, China has been conducting activities which fall under both categories, bothstatus quo and revisionist. China is lying in the middle between status quo and revisionist in the SouthChina Sea dispute, between an obligatory action that is mandated by the DoC and the desire to act inorder to pursue its self-interest such as its sovereignty claim, natural resources, and geostrategicposition of the disputed territory. China\u27s position in the South China Sea dispute as well as its moraldilemma in the end could be seen through its mixed and constrained actions indicated by an aggressiveact and a justification related to the aggressive act.Key words: China, South China Sea Dispute, Status Quo, Revisionist, Norm, DoC

No full textAbstract: The Government of the United States under Barrack Obama has sued Standard and Poor\u27s, arating agency, for their alleged act of deceiving investors. In this article, the writer tries to analyse threeresearch points. Firstly, the writer tries to probe the common characteristics of rating agencies ingiving investment performance analyses; secondly, to investigate whether the alleged misguiding hasstirred cases made public by the media; and finally, to see whether this case has another standpoint thatis quite effective economically and politically. The research done by the writer has revealed that theirrational approach employed by Standard and Poor\u27s in producing the performance reports is bothcommonly and usually done by other rating agencies in the industry. Furthermore, the media surveyhas shown that the legal action is not entirely baseless because there are cases sprung from the motionfuelled by the media. However, interestingly the conclusion from this research shows that this case hasanother dimension –a political dimension –because from a political perspective we can infer “thesecond” reading that shows that this legal motion is actually a political “pinch” whose purpose is moreof deterring than of penalising the company to pay for the damage caused by their investmentperformance reports.Keywords : rating agencies, irrationality, “the second reading”, deterring effec
Understanding Christian\u27s Perspective on Peace and War
No full textAbstract: Problems of peace and war continues to be debated in theological and moral traditions of Christianity.This paper tries to pick two points. First, the Christian view of peace and war. In the Christian view of peace (peace) is indispensable to justice (justice) and include the dimensions (inner peace) or a spiritual dimension(spiritual peace). This understanding is different from a more secular outlook mean peace at the level of exteriordimensions (outer dimension). Secondly, this paper contradict two major traditions in Christianity regarding theplace of Christians in the war and their obligation to participate. The tradition of pacifism which Christians aregenerally held before St . Agustine, argues that Jesus forbade Christians at all involved in the war or arms. Thistradition believes that peace is achieved only through peaceful means. Conversely, Just War tradition that wasdeveloped by St . Augustine considered that Christians are obliged to participate in the war when the purpose ofwar is to bring peace and uphold justice.
