    ANALISIS EKSERGI PADA TEKNOLOGI PRODUKSI BIODIESEL KELAPA SAWIT

    ABSTRAKBiodiesel merupakan bahan bakar alternatif yang dapat menggantikan bahan bakar diesel, karena sifatnya yang terbarukan dan ramah lingkungan. Biodiesel dapat diproduksi baik secara proses katalitik ataupun non-katalitik. Makalah ini membahas dua teknologi yang berbeda dalam memproduksi biodiesel kelapa sawit, yaitu proses katalitik yang menggunakan katalis basa dan proses non katalitik uap metanol superheated (superheated methanol vapor / SMV). Analisis eksergi dilakukan untuk membandingkan kedua teknologi tersebut. Sistem tertutup diasumsikan pada analisis eksergi, sedangkan eksergi kinetik dan potensial diabaikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa total efisiensi eksergi untuk proses non-katalitik SMV lebih rendah dibandingkan proses katalitik, yaitu sebesar 92,61% dan 95,37%, secara berurutan. Proses penguapan metanol memberikan kontribusi yang tinggi pada ireversibilitas (tidak mampu balik), yaitu sebesar 2802.07 kJ/kg biodiesel. Penerapan proses resirkulasi panas dapat meningkatkan efisiensi eksergi pada proses produksi biodiesel, terutama apabila metode SMV akan diterapkan. Ireversibilitas pada proses non-katalitik SMV lebih tinggi dibandingkan proses katalitik, karena kebutuhan suhu yang tinggi pada proses non-katalitik SMV. Oleh karena itu, perbaikan proses SMV sangat perlu dilakukan, terutama pada proses penguapan metanol, guna meningkatnya efisiensi proses tersebut.Kata kunci: minyak sawit, biodiesel, uap metanol superheated, katalis basa, analisis ekserg

    PERBANDINGAN KINERJA PROSES CO-COMPOSTING BAGAS DAN BLOTONG PADA SKALA 100 KG TERHADAP SKALA LABORATORIUM

    ABSTRAK Penelitian untuk menentukan kondisi optimum proses co-composting bagas dan blotong pada skala laboratorium telah dilakukan. Namun, untuk dapat diaplikasikan di industri perlu dilakukan evaluasi terhadap kinerja co-composting dengan membandingkannya pada skala yang lebih besar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membandingkan kinerja proses co-composting bagas dan blotong pada skala 100 kg dengan skala laboratorium.  Parameter kinerja utama yang dievaluasi meliputi kinetika proses berupa laju pengomposan serta pengaruh aerasi terhadap laju penurunan C/N. Peningkatan skala co-composting dilakukan dengan memperbesar kapasitas produksi dari 5 kg (skala laboratorium) menjadi 100 kg. Faktor yang dipertahankan berupa kesamaan geometri reaktor, laju aerasi dan nilai C/N awal. Penelitian dilakukan selama 60 hari dengan nilai C/N awal sebesar 50 dan pemberian aerasi aktif sebesar 0,4 L/menit.kg bahan selama 1 jam perhari pada minggu pertama.  Pengamatan proses pada skala 100 kg menunjukkan kondisi proses yang sama dengan skala laboratorium dengan pencapai suhu mesofilik, pH sekitar netral, kadar air optimum, dan peningkatan nitrat dimulai pada minggu kedua.  Berdasarkan hasil penelitian juga didapatkan proses co-composting pada kapasitas 100 kg memberikan laju pengomposan yang lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan kapasitas 5 kg. Selain itu perlakuan aerasi selama proses co-composting kapasitas 100 kg tidak memberikan pengaruh terhadap laju penurunan C/N. Pencapaian mutu kompos pada skala 100 Kg sudah cukup baik, dengan nilai kapasitas ikat air yang lebih tinggi dari kompos yang dihasilkan pada skala laboratorium.     PEMANFAATAN KATALIS SILIKA ALUMINA DARI BAGASSE PADA PEMBUATAN BIODIESEL DARI MINYAK GORENG SISA PAKAI

    It was synthesized biodiesel from the used cooking oil using silica alumina catalyst. The aim of this research was to establish the catalytic performance in the form of silica alumina. The silica in sugarcane baggase was extracted by 6 M sodium hydroxide until sodium silicate was obtained. Synthesis of silica alumina catalyst was conducted by reaching sodium silicate with sodium aluminate, whereas the ratio was 1:1 (v/v), then the mixture was hydrothermaly heated at 100oC for 3 days. Catalytic ability was tested on transesterification reaction of used cooking oil and methanol. This catalytic test was to measure the performance of 1% silica alumina in converting used cooking oil into biodiesel. The variables were examined including ratios of methanol:used cooking oil (1:3, 1:6 and 6:1) and contact times (60 and 120 minutes). Catalyst characteristics were determined by XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDX and surface analyzer, meanwhile biodiesel as the product of transesterification was determined by GC-MS. The result showed that the silica alumina catalyst was Na-sodalite that had composition of Na 17.96%, Al 18.97% and Si 17.04%. Na-sodalite had homogenized shapes and sizes which the pore diameter of 4.55 Ao, pore volume of 5.73.10-3cc/g and surface area of 1.457.105cm2/g. The biodiesel obtained at methanol:used cooking oil of 1:3 for 60 minutes was 13.83% consisting of methyl caprylate, methyl caprate, methyl laurate, methyl myristate, methyl palmitate, methyl linoleat and methyl stearate.     KINETIKA ADSORPSI ISOTERMAL β-KAROTEN OLEIN SAWIT KASAR DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN ATAPULGIT

    ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan kondisi steady state dan nilai konstanta kinetika reaksi seperti konstanta adsorpsi (k) dan energi aktivasi (Ea) dari proses adsorpsi β-karoten dari CPO menggunakan atapulgit sebagai pembanding dalam penelitian ini juga digunakan arang aktif. Pada kondisi steady statekonsentrasi β-karoten menggunakan atapulgitdipengaruhi oleh faktor suhu dalam proses reaksi. Kondisi steady state diperoleh ketika konsentrasi β-karoten menurun secara konstan dalam olein hingga konstan. Kinetika reaksi adsorpsi isothermal pada tiga tingkat suhu (40ºC, 50ºC, and 60ºC) menghasilkan nilai konstanta adsorpsi (k) mengikuti isothermal model Freundlic. Nilai konstanta adsorpsi pada suhu reaksi dengan adsorben atapulgit adalah 2,31×10-7mL.g-1, 4,94×10-5mL.g-1, dan 7,82×10-5mL.g-1, sedangkan menggunakan arang aktif sebesar 3,10×10-4mL.g-1, 1,29×10-4mL.g-1, dan 6,16×10-3 mL.g-1. Suhu adsorpsi yang tinggi dapat digunakan sebagai faktor pemercepat reaksi.  Nilai energi aktivasi pada kondisi tersebut sebesar 62,04 kkal mole-1 untuk atapulgit, dan 30,45 kkal mole-1 untuk arang aktif. Berdasarkan nilai energi aktivasi (Ea) dapat disimpulkan bahwa proses adsorpsi β-karoten dari CPO menggunakan atapulgit lebih efektif daripada menggunakan arang aktif. Kinerja pada kolom monolith dievaluasi melalui kurva output. Model prediksi aliran sumbat yang terdispersi, dengan laju adsorpsinya dinyatakan oleh model tersebut, juga diidentifikasi. Kesetimbangan yang dinyatakan oleh isotermal Langmuir dan parameter laju yang termuat dalam dua persamaan, diperoleh dari penelitian secara batch. Kapasitas adsorpsi monolith karbon aktif tersebut adalah 190 mg/g dan koefisien gaya dorong liniarnya berkurang dari 0,011 menjadi 0,0052 per menit dengan kenaikan konsentrasi awal metilen biru dari 10 hingga 50 ppm.     Indonesia is the second largest exporter of seaweed in the world. It has a promising availability and capacity of producing bioethanol from seaweed. Euchema cottonii is abundantly available in theIndonesian sea which contains high carbohydrate concentration for bioethanol production. This research studied the effect of sulfuric acid concentration for hydrolysis at 121oC and the concentration of cellulase enzyme at different reaction time. The results showed that the best treatment was 1% (v/v) sulfuric acid hydrolysis for 60 min and enzymatic hydrolisis of 5% (v/v) for 12 hours.     Spoiled by-catch fish (HTS) has a high protein content, so that is potential to be used as peptone raw material. This research aimed to produce peptone from spoiled by-catch fish and to apply it as nutrient source of bacteria and yeast growth. Peptone was produced by the addition of 0.3% papain enzyme 5 hours hydrolysed process. The result showed that peptone from by-catch fish had protein of 71.39%, solubility of 99.96%, nitrogen of 11.42%, α-Amino free nitrogen of 1.76%, AN/TN ratio of 15.41%, salt of 7.82% and pH of 7.1. The results ofthe analysis of the specific growth rate (μ max) and the average growth rate indicated that the media containing peptone HTS did not give a better growth effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Sacharomyces cereviceae than that grown on media without peptone and commercial peptone. Escherichiacoli grown in media containing peptone HTS was not consumable due to the lower values of μ max and the average growth rate.Keywords: by-catch fish, growth nutrient, hydrolysis, pepton
