The Jurisprudence of Noise: An Islamic Legal Analysis of the “Sound Horeg” Phenomenon in Indonesia
The phenomenon of sound horeg as a form of excessive and competitive contemporary cultural expression has raised theological, social, and ethical issues that urgently need to be studied scientifically. This practice is not merely entertainment, but has shifted to become a symbol of luxury and public arrogance that has social, medical, and moral implications. This research is important because there has been no comprehensive legal-theological study that systematically assesses this phenomenon from an Islamic legal perspective. Using a qualitative and interpretive theological-legal approach, this study combines the taḥqīq al-manāṭ method (empirical investigation of factual reality) with Mustafa Muslim's inductive thematic interpretation, which interprets verses of the Qur'an through keyword analysis and the context of revelation. The synthesis of the interpretation results is then integrated with the principles of uṣūl al-fiqh and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, especially lā ḍarara wa lā ḍirār, to produce a contextually relevant legal analysis. The results of the study show that sound horeg, in its current form, fundamentally contradicts the principles of Islamic ethics and law because it contains elements of wastefulness (isrāf and tabdzīr), public harm (ḍarar), immoral entertainment (lahw al-ḥadīth), and social arrogance (kibr). These findings confirm that Islamic jurisprudence has adequate methodological tools to navigate modern phenomena without losing its normative values, while opening opportunities for the development of a constructive cultural ethical model that is in line with the objectives of Sharia.

Reaffirming Javanese Patriarchy: Gender Roles and Cultural Identity in K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz
This research examines the intersection between Qur'anic interpretation and Javanese culture, focusing on K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz, a commentary written in Javanese using pegon script. The study employs an in-depth analytical approach, addressing two key aspects: the representation of verses concerning gender relations (men and women), and the dynamic interplay between the interpreter’s perspective and the Javanese cultural framework. As a library-based study, this research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing hermeneutic theory to analyze the triad of text, interpreter, and socio-cultural context. The findings reveal that al-Ibrīz positions men as the leaders of the household, asserting their authority over women, who are expected to submit to male guardianship. The commentary emphasizes biological determinism: men are portrayed as physically strong and resilient, thus assigned the role of providers and protectors, while women are associated with gentleness and confined to domestic spheres—summarized in the Javanese culture as macak (grooming), masak (cooking), and manak (childbearing). Additionally, the interpretation highlights women’s reproductive functions, including menstruation, menopause, and breastfeeding obligations. The analysis confirms a cultural-textual synergy: the interpreter’s model aligns with traditional Javanese patriarchy, where men dominate household governance, and women occupy a subordinate position.

Gender and its Relationship with the Development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira: A Socio-Religious Study
This research aims to analyze the relationship between gender and the development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira, from a socio-religious perspective. The main focus of this research is the role of men and women in religious life, Islamic education, and their involvement in socio-religious practices. This research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were obtained through surveys, interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis of the history of Islamic development on Ay Island. The results show that there are differences in participation between men and women in various socio-religious aspects. In religious leadership, 85% of formal positions are still dominated by men, while women are more active in informal Islamic education such as pengajian and madrasah, with 72% of community-based activities managed by women. However, only 35% of women hold leadership positions in formal socio-religious organizations. In addition, 64% of women feel they have limited access to large-scale religious activities, although 78% of communities have shown increased acceptance of women's active role in socio-religious activities. The implications of this study show that although Islam on Ay Island provides space for women's participation, there are still gaps in access and formal leadership. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase women's involvement in wider religious activities through more inclusive policies and strengthening women's capacity in leadership. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of gender dynamics in coastal Muslim communities and provide insights for academics and policy makers in developing Islam-based gender empowerment strategies.

Zutu, Juliana.

Epistemological Transformation of Hadith Transmission in Post-3rd Century of Sufi Tradition
The discourse on hadith transmission within the Sufi tradition presents a compelling subject for inquiry, particularly concerning its inherent dynamics and the intellectual tensions arising between Sufi practitioners and ḥadīth scholars. While Sufis define themselves as guardians of Prophetic teachings through spiritual realization and divine connection, a paradoxical divergence emerges: their methods of transmission often contravene the principles of validation recognized by mainstream scholarship. Departing from this apparent contradiction, this study investigates the epistemological framework through which Sufis engage with hadith and the methodological principles underpinning their transmission practices. Employing a descriptive-qualitative methodology in library research methodology, relevant data were systematically collected, verified for authenticity, classified thematically, and subjected to critical analysis and reflection. This inquiry reveals that the transformation within Sufi circles and the doctrine of taṣawwuf itself is fundamentally shaped by historical shifts, with each epoch developing distinct forms and modes of praxis. The principal finding of this research lies in the demonstration that the evolution of transmission practices follows a discernible trajectory: it originated within the traditional framework governed by the isnād system, transitioned into a phase marked by the simplification or truncation of isnāds, and culminated in the emergence of methods radically distinct from the established tradition of hadith scholars. This final stage is characterized by alternative methodologies based on kashf and ru’yā. The adoption of these alternative methods stems from the Sufi ambition to maintain a continuous spiritual connection with the Prophet, a connection they contend is accessible primarily through contemplative practice. While contemplation possesses a basis for legitimacy within Prophetic tradition, its application as a formal channel for transmitting ḥadīth risks replicating a historical peril: the proliferation of fabricated hadiths. This risk arises from the inherent difficulty of verifying the chain of transmission (isnād) and the matn of such experientially-received knowledge through the systematic criteria developed within the classical science of hadith.

Zuhar, ‘Adnan ‘Abdullah.
Digital Da'wah Studies: A Bibliometric Analysis of Trends, Patterns, and Collaboration Networks
This study employs a bibliometric approach to analyze publication trends, research patterns, and collaboration networks in the field of digital da’wah (Islamic digital preaching) within Islamic studies. Using data extracted from the Dimensions database and visualized through VOSviewer, the research identifies significant developments in this domain. Findings reveal a marked increase in digital da’wah research in recent years, reflected by growing publication outputs and participation from diverse institutions and scholars worldwide. However, the analysis indicates limited collaborative networks among researchers, highlighting the need for stronger interdisciplinary and cross-regional partnerships. Key themes emerging from the literature include digital communication strategies, the role of social media in da’wah, and the opportunities and challenges of preaching in the digital era. This study maps the current landscape of digital da’wah research and suggests future directions, such as broader data coverage and deeper methodological exploration. The findings provide valuable insights for scholars and practitioners working at the dynamic intersection of Islamic propagation and evolving communication technologies.

Digital Ta’aruf and Islamic Da'wah: The Role of Taaruf ID, Salams, and Hawaya in Promoting Islamic Marriage Ethics
The research aims to examine the role of Islamic matchmaking applications—Taaruf ID, Salams, and Hawaya—in promoting Islamic marriage ethics and serving as a medium for digital da’wah. The rapid development of digital technology has transformed various aspects of human life, including how Muslims approach marriage. This study explores how these platforms align with the Islamic principles of ta’aruf while integrating modern technological advancements. Using a qualitative approach, the research analyzes user experiences, platform features, and Islamic ethical frameworks to assess the extent to which these applications facilitate halal relationships. Findings indicate that these apps offer an alternative to conventional matchmaking methods while maintaining Islamic values. However, challenges such as commercialization, user authenticity, and religious adherence persist. This study contributes to discussions on digital ta’aruf, the intersection of technology and religion, and the evolving landscape of Muslim courtship in the digital era.

Votes Buying and Selling in General Elections: An Islamic Perspective
This article aims to discuss the practice of vote buying and selling in general elections from an Islamic perspective. This research applies a qualitative approach with library research as its method. The data collection technique employed is documentation, accompanied by data analysis techniques such as content analysis, induction, and deduction. The conclusions from the discussion in this article are as follows. First, votes buying and selling in general elections is a practice where voters’ votes are treated as commodities or merchandise in exchange for money, goods, or services. Second, from an Islamic viewpoint, votes buying and selling in general elections is a reprehensible practice and is explicitly prohibited because it violates the fundamental principles of justice, honesty, and trust that are advocated by the religion. Third, the practice of votes buying and selling in elections damages the social order by undermining trust in the integrity of the political system, reducing participation in elections, weakening social cohesion, and destabilizing the political stability of Islamic communities. Fourth, the Islamic solution to overcome the votes buying and selling in general elections includes revitalizing Islamic political education, increasing public awareness through campaigns about the dangers of vote buying and selling in elections, educating the public about Islamic values that support honesty and integrity in the political process, providing sharia sanctions for individuals involved in buying and selling votes in elections, as well as enhancing the role of ulama to promote political ethics under Islamic teachings
Preserving the Authenticity of Qirā’āt Sab'ah: A Comparative Study of Musyāfahah Methods at Al-Hasan and Al-Munawwir Boarding School
This study examines the challenges in maintaining the authenticity of qirā’āt sab’ah in the face of technological advances, focusing on the credibility of the sanad and the originality of the readings. Using qualitative methods, this study compares the application of the musyāfahah method in Al-Hasan Tahfīz Quran Islamic Boarding School, Ponorogo, and Al-Munawwir Tahfīz Quran Islamic Boarding School, Krapyak, Yogyakarta, through interviews with informants, observation, and documentation. The findings of this study revealed three important things: (1) both Boarding Schools have the same qirā’āt sab’ah sanad lineage, which is supported by a syahādah (certificate); (2) Al-Munawwir Boarding School emphasizes credibility and originality through strict standardization, while Al-Hasan Boarding School adopts a more practical and inclusive approach; and (3) the transformation of Al-Hasan Boarding School promotes broader participation, increasing the number of students, while Al-Munawwir Boarding School focuses on cognitive depth through classical musyāfahah phases.

Problems of Determining the Beginning of the Hijri Calendar at the Al Falah Islamic Boarding School Kediri Perspectives on Falak and Phenomenology: An Astronomical and Phenomenological Analysis
This study examines the distinctive approach to determining the Hijri calendar (particularly for Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dhu al-Hijjah) practiced by Al-Falah Ploso Kediri Islamic Boarding School, which frequently differs from both government rulings and Nahdlatul Ulama's positions. Employing empirical research methods through structured interviews with key informants, the investigation pursues two primary objectives: first, to analyze the methodological framework employed by Al-Falah in establishing the Hijri calendar; and second, to evaluate this practice through astronomical and phenomenological lenses. The findings reveal that while Al-Falah utilizes multiple calculation methods, its primary reference is the Sullam al-Nayyiroin system, employing a lunar altitude criterion of 2 degrees. Astronomically, this approach falls under the category of hisāb taqrībi (approximate calculation), which demonstrates limited accuracy in light of contemporary astronomical advancements. Phenomenologically, the boarding school's adherence to this traditional method serves to preserve the institutional sanad (chain of transmission) established by its founders, maintaining both scholarly continuity and practical application. This practice holds particular significance for the school's students, alumni, and affiliated communities, while other segments of the population follow government determinations due to limited understanding of the technical considerations. The study highlights the complex interplay between traditional Islamic scholarship, astronomical precision, and community dynamics in contemporary Hijri calendar determination, offering insights into the ongoing discourse surrounding Islamic timekeeping methodologies.

Melampaui Abangan-Santri: Majelis Sabilu Taubah and Identitas Ganda Baru: Majelis Sabilu Taubah and New Hybrid Identities
This article seeks to discuss the emergence of new hybrid identities in the Sabilu Taubah Majelis, Pesantren Mambaul Hikam Blitar, led by Gus Muhamad Iqdam (Gus Iqdam). Gus Iqdam refers to his congregation as “garangan,” new identities that encompass a diverse group of individuals, including former gangsters, gamblers, alcohol consumers, and nightclub performers. Using a phenomenological approach, this article deals with the factors that attract the “garangan” group to participate in the Sabilu Taubah Majelis and how they represent their religious identity. This article argues that the “garangan” group is drawn to Sabilu Taubah’s dakwah due to its welcoming, millennial-oriented, engaging, and non-judgmental approach. Furthermore, the term “garangan” cannot be strictly classified as either abangan or santri, as suggested by Clifford Geertz’s thesis, nor does it fit the concept of “nominal Islam” as proposed by Merle Calvin Ricklefs. Instead, they embody a religious hybrid identity, existing in a liminal space—identifying as santri while simultaneously maintaining aspects of their former professions. In this way, they construct and express their religious identities.

Ruthven, Malise. Islam: A Very Short Introduction.
