Selected possibilities of cooperation between a family and a preschool environment
No full textA kindergarten gives extensive opportunities for cooperation with parents. The article is limited to present two aspects of cooperation. One area concerns health education, which can and should combine and integrate the activities of kindergarten teachers and parents, concerning children’s knowledge acquisition and formation of health-oriented behaviour. The second area concerns preparing preschool children for the future role of a tourist. Advantages of tourism for a child’s development were presented, including trips as an organizational form of kindergarten work. In addition to evidence confirming the numerous cognitive, health, cultural, and aesthetic values of trips, the importance of cooperation between a kindergarten and parents in this regard was highlighted. High-functioning alcoholics – diagnostic difficulties, characteristics and treatment models
No full textArtykuł prezentuje trudności diagnostyczne związane z nietypowym przebiegiem problemowego picia alkoholu wśród osób wysokofunkcjonujuących (HFA – ang. High Functioning Alcoholics), które nie spełniają często przez kilkanaście lat kryteriów diagnostycznych klasyfikacji DSM-V(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), choć cierpią z powodu symptomów nadmiernego picia. Korzystając z koncepcji Sarah Alen Benton wskazuje na typologię cech charakterystycznych dla tej grupy osób oraz czynniki ryzyka picia problemowego,
uwidaczniających się w poszczególnych okresach życia, umożliwiające wczesną identyfikację symptomów rozwoju uzależnienia. Wskazuje przy tym na zmianę paradygmatów medycznych w podejściu do picia problemowego: z paradygmatu abstytencji zakładającego nieuleczalność choroby alkoholowej opierającej terapię na dożywotnim zaprzestaniu picia alkohol inspirowanym modelem ruchu Anonimowych Alkoholików, na paradygmat redukcji szkód ukazujący progresywny i przewlekły charakter wspomnianej choroby opierający terapię na naucę picia kontrolowanego. W podejściu terapeutycznym proponowanym pijącym problemowo osobom wysokofunkcjonującym stosowane są oba podejścia.The article presents diagnostic difficulties related to the atypical course of problem alcohol consumption among highly functioning alcoholics (HFA), who often do not meet the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) classification for several years, although they suffer from because of symptoms of excessive drinking. Using Sarah Alen’s concept, Benton indicates the typology of features characteristic for this group of people and the risk factors of problem drinking, which are manifested in particular periods of life, enabling early identification of the symptoms of addiction development. At the same time, he points to a change in medical paradigms in the approach to problem drinking: from the paradigm of abstinence assuming the incurability of alcoholism based on lifetime cessation of alcohol drinking, inspired by the Alcoholics Anonymous movement model, to the harm reduction paradigm showing the progressive and chronic nature of the disease based on controlled drinking. I Will Kill You and Nothing Will Happen: Extra-Judicial Killings in Nigeria and Public Interest Litigation
No full textPublic interest litigation is a mechanism of intervention in a matter that concerns the public. It could be about human rights, government policy, or some other issue that could present a challenge to public life. Public interest litigation is important because it presents hope to the powerless and offers justice where there might not previously have been the opportunity. The aim of public interest litigation is to recognise injustice and give a voice to the concerns of members of society who might not have the means to articulate them. In Nigeria there is a high tendency for people of low socioeconomic status to experience police brutality, or even become victims of extra-judicial killing. In this article, it was argued that although public interest litigation is a good strategy to engage the injustice of extra-judicial killings, the recurrence shows that the solution lies more in addressing a systemic problem.Dorcas A. Comparative (Transnational) Research on Censorship of Literature in the Former Communist Countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Preliminary Findings and Research Overview
No full textThe article reviews the state of research in multilingual literature and proposes the original research concept. In the first part, titled: “Transnational Research,” the author describes the possibilities offered by the implementation of a new methodological concept in comparative research on communism in European countries of the former Eastern Bloc. In the second part, “Research on Communist Censorship,” the author
discusses the predominant trend in the research on communist censorship which has been dynamically developing since the collapse of the system, with particular emphasis on the issue of censorship of literature. In the last part, “Comparative Research on Communist Censorship,” she juxtaposes both trends and draws a new research proposal from them. The author notes that there is no scientific study yet to discuss censorship in all
former communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe 1. as a supranational phenomenon and 2. using the same methodological perspective. Civil Unions (Non – Registered Partnerships) and Patients’ Rights: Problematics and the Future Perspective
No full textUnlike the institution of matrimonial law, which has developed over several hundred years and thus has a solid legal basis, the legal framework for non-registered partnerships is a relatively recent legal phenomenon, which therefore also means that the legal framework in those countries where it is applied is not uniform and there are signifi cant differences between diff erent legal systems. The legal framework of non-registered partnerships is influenced by the traditions, history, culture, religion, and other factors of the country and its population. With the development of non-registered partnerships, new challenges are emerging in various fields, including healthcare in terms of ensuring patients’ rights. This results in a situation where there is a lack of regulation in society to protect all families, regardless of whether the family is based on a registered or non-registered partnership. The purpose of the article is to clarify the role, and importance, as well as crucial problematics of non-registered partnerships from the patients’ point of view. The methodological basis of the research includes general theoretical principles of scientific knowledge. This knowledge provides various aspects in the study of non-registered partnerships and the patients’ rights in healthcare. Comparison Analysis of Analytical and Lattice Boltzmann Methods for Simulation of Turbulence Decay in Flows in Converging and Diverging Channels
Get PDFThe paper focuses on a study of turbulence decay in flow with streamwise gradient. For the first time, an analytical solution of this problem was obtained based on the k‐ε model of turbulence in one‐dimensional (1D) approximation, as well as on the symmetry properties of the system of differential equations. Lie group technique enabled reducing the problem to a linear differential equation. The analytical solution enabled parametric studies, which are computationally cheap in comparison to CFD based simulations. The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) in two‐dimensional approximation (2D) was used to validate the analytical results. Large eddy simulation (LES) Smagorinsky approach was used to close the LBM model. Computations revealed that the rate of turbulence decay is significantly different for the cases of positive and negative streamwise pressure gradient. The further comparisons showed that the analytical solution underpredicts the predictions by the numerical methodology, which can be attributed to the simplified problem statement used to derive the closed‐form analytical solution. Comparisons of calculations with experiments revealed that the theoretical models used in the study underpredict the measurements for flows with a positive pressure gradient. Hence it can be concluded that the LBM technique combined with the LES Smagorinsky model requires the further modification
Economic Feasibility of Agrivoltaic Systems in Food-Energy Nexus Context: Modelling and a Case Study in Niger
Get PDFIn the literature, many studies outline the advantages of agrivoltaic (APV) systems from different viewpoints: optimized land use, productivity gain in both the energy and water sector, economic benefits, etc. A holistic analysis of an APV system is needed to understand its full advantages. For this purpose, a case study farm size of 0.15 ha has been chosen as a reference farm at a village in Niger, West Africa. Altogether four farming cases are considered. They are traditional rain-fed, irrigated with diesel-powered pumps, irrigated with solar pumps, and the APV system. The APV system is further analyzed under two scenarios: benefits to investors and combined benefits to investors and farmers. An economic feasibility analysis model is developed. Different economic indicators are used to present the results: gross margin, farm profit, benefit-cost ratio, and net present value (NPV). All the economic indicators obtained for the solar-powered irrigation system were positive, whereas all those for the diesel-powered system were negative. Additionally, the diesel system will emit annually about 4005 kg CO2 to irrigate the chosen reference farm. Get PDFAm 25. Juni 2021 fand die 14. Jahrestagung des Förderkreises Rückversicherung statt. Durch Covid-19 bedingt fand in diesem Jahr die Veranstaltung wieder im Online-Format statt. Etwa 90 Repräsentanten der in dem Förderkreis mitwirkenden (Rück-) Versicherungsunternehmen und Gäste nahmen daran teil. Forschungsstelle Rückversicherung je einen Vortrag zu dem jeweils bearbeiteten Forschungsprojekt 2021 hielten. In drei Sessions wurden die wichtigsten Ergebnisse der wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen der Kölner Forschungsstelle Rückversicherung präsentiert und diskutiert. Method for the evaluation and assessment of hospital emergency power planning
Get PDFVergangene Ereignisse haben gezeigt, dass es trotz gesetzlicher Vorgaben und technischer Regeln, welche die Notstromversorgung von Krankenhäusern bestimmen, zu Vorfällen mit menschlichen Verlusten als Folge von Stromausfällen kam. Deshalb befasst sich diese Masterthesis mit der Entwicklung einer Bewertungsmethode für die Notfallplanung von deutschen Krankenhäusern im Bereich der Energieversorgung unter Berücksichtigung von technischen und organisatorischen Anforderungen. Sie soll in der Krankenhausalarm- und Einsatzplanung Anwendung finden.
Das Ziel ist es, eine Methode zu entwickeln, welche von Anwender:innen mit unterschiedlicher Ausprägung der Fachexpertise in der Krankenhausalarm- und Einsatzplanung sowie Risikoanalyse genutzt werden kann. Über zwei Scoping Reviews für die Krankenhausalarm- und Einsatzplanung sowie zur Energieversorgung von Krankenhäusern werden bestehende Vorgaben und Konzepte sowie Anforderungen an die Methode ermittelt. Basierend auf diesen Informationen wird ein gestuftes Bewertungsmodell vorgeschlagen. Es setzt sich aus einer Synthese eines Verfahrens des Bundesamts für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe zur Vulnerabilitätsanalyse mit Methoden der multikriteriellen Entscheidungsunterstützung (Satisfizierungsverfahren und Analytic Network Process) zusammen. Anhand einer exemplarischen Durchführung erfolgte eine empirische Validierung. Des Weiteren wurden der Praxisbezug und die Anwendbarkeit mit Expert:innen-Gesprächen untersucht.
Als Ergebnis kann festgehalten werden, dass sich das gestufte Bewertungsmodell als Planungsmodell für die Bewertung der Energienotversorgung von Krankenhäusern eignet. Es ist in eine Einsteiger-, Fortgeschrittenen- und Expertenstufe unterteilt, um für alle Anwender:innen unabhängig von ihrer Fachexpertise nutzbar zu sein. Es sind weitere Arbeiten unter enger Einbindung von Krankenhausbetreibenden erforderlich, um anhand des Modells priorisierte Checklisten mit allgemeinen technischen und organisatorischen Anforderungen für die Fortgeschrittenenstufe zu entwickeln. Durch die exemplarische Durchführung hat sich herausgestellt, dass das gestufte Bewertungsmodell zudem zur Identifizierung von Abhängigkeiten und Kritikalität des untersuchten Systems genutzt werden kann.
Als Herausforderung stellte sich die Übertragung des Analytic Network Process zu einem Bewertungs- und Priorisierungssystem der technischen und organisatorischen Anforderungen in Verbindung mit der Vulnerabilität heraus. Die Anwendungsgrenzen werden durch die Stufung des Bewertungsmodells gering gehalten. Es sind jedoch weitere Arbeiten, wie die Erstellung eines Leitfadens, notwendig, um die praktische Umsetzung zu ermöglichen.Recent incidents have shown that despite legal regulations and technical rules determining the emergency power supply of hospitals, there have been events with human casualties as a consequence of blackouts. Therefore, this master thesis deals with the development of an evaluation method for the emergency planning of German hospitals in the field of power supply considering technical and organizational requirements. It is to be applied in hospital alarm and emergency planning.
The aim is to develop a method that can be used by practitioners with different levels of expertise in hospital alarm and emergency planning as well as risk analysis. Existing guidelines and concepts as well as requirements for the method will be identified via two scoping reviews for hospital alarm and emergency planning and for hospital energy supply. Based on this information, a staged evaluation and assessment model is proposed. It is a synthesis of a method of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance for vulnerability analysis with methods of multi-criteria decision support (satisficing method and Analytic Network Process). An empirical validation was carried out on the basis of an exemplary implementation. Furthermore, the practical relevance and the applicability were examined with expert interviews.
As a result, it can be stated that the staged evaluation and assessment model is suitable as a planning model for the evaluation and assessment of the emergency energy supply of hospitals. It is divided into a beginner, advanced and expert level in order to be applicable for all practitioners regardless of their expertise. Further work is required with close involvement of hospital operators to develop prioritized checklists with general technical and organizational requirements for the advanced level based on the model. Through exemplary implementation, it has become apparent that the staged evaluation and assessment model can also be used to identify dependencies and criticality of the system being assessed.
The challenge was to transfer the Analytic Network Process to an assessment and prioritization system of technical and organizational requirements in conjunction with vulnerability. Application limits are kept low by staging the assessment model. However, further work, such as the creation of a guidance document, is needed to enable practical implementation
