One alternate way for making English more attractive is digital storytelling. Cooperative learning is essential when dealing with youngsters of varying levels and intellect. The method used in this study is experimental. The researcher used the experiential technique to study the cause-effect relationship. Based on the outcomes of the initial presentation, it was found that the difference in the average pretest and posttest scores from the implementation of digital Storytelling With Code Mixing (English-Indonesian) improved the speaking ability of eighth-grade students. The average score attained, known by the posttest, is higher than the average score on the pretest. Because of sig. (2-tailed) is a little less to = 0.05 (sig. 2-tailed = 0.002 0.05), H0 is rejected. So it can be concluded that there has been an increase in the speaking ability of eighth-grade students after implementing digital Storytelling With Code Mixing (English-Indonesian). It shows that the existence of a digital Storytelling With Code Mixing (English-Indonesian) program will enhance the speaking skills

Integrating Mathematics, Community, Culture, and Place: A Conceptual Framework for Instructional Design

This study proposes a novel instructional design framework that intertwines mathematical concepts with elements of community, culture, and place. The aim is to enhance student engagement and understanding of mathematics by making learning more culturally responsive and contextually relevant. Employing a mixed-methods approach involving teacher interviews, classroom observations, pre- and post-intervention surveys and tests, the study examines the potential benefits of this integrated approach along with its practical challenges. Results indicate that despite initial difficulties in implementation such as time constraints or parental resistance to non-traditional teaching methods, many teachers reported improved student involvement and comprehension when classes were connected to local communities or cultures. Importantly, the study found no significant main effects or interaction effects for grade level or ethnicity on both engagement and understanding scores pre-and post-intervention. This suggests that this instructional model can be equally effective across diverse student populations thereby potentially reducing disparities in mathematical achievement. The findings highlight the potential advantages of an inclusive pedagogical strategy in enhancing mathematics education while acknowledging further research is needed to confirm these results across different settings

Some students feel that mathematics is less fun because the students lack basic knowledge of mathematics which leads to a lack of confidence in learning. Especially during the COVID-19 outbreak, distance learning was needed, including mathematics, and many students had difficulties in learning. Learning difficulties that arise during distance learning can interfere with the subsequent learning process and have a significant impact on the students' academic performance in mathematics. This study aims to determine the students' mathematics learning difficulties in distance learning at Junior High School 13 Surakarta. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Qualitative descriptive research aims to describe student learning difficulties during the pandemic with the distance learning system. The subjects of this study were students of eighth grade of Junior High School 13 Surakarta. Data collection techniques used are interviews and observation. The interview method used was a guided free interview which was then analyzed using an interactive model. Based on the results of the analysis of student learning difficulties in distance learning mathematics caused by several factors, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors, namely those that come from within the student, include the lack of interest and motivation of students to take part in online mathematics learning. While external factors are factors that come from within students, including difficulties in understanding the material provided by the teacher rather than in detail, unstable internet network, student learning environment that does not support learning, motivation, and encouragement from parents or closest family

A Study of Effective Dual Language Program Models for Non-Native Spanish Speakers

As the United States population becomes increasingly ethnically and linguistically diverse, more school districts, families, and students are beginning to recognize the need and value of bilingual education, specifically dual language programs, for both native and non-native Spanish speakers (Collier & Thomas, 2020). With dual language programs on the rise, it is important to consider which program model(s) most benefit the students within a particular program. The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study was to compare the effect of different dual language program models (including immersion programs) on primary-level students’ Spanish and English language acquisition by the time students reach fourth grade. The study fRobocused specifically on non-native Spanish speakers, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data. Such data included Spanish and English literacy levels of students who had been in a dual language program from kindergarten through fourth grade and evidence from surveys and interviews of students and teachers. The study compared two schools, one with an 80:20 program model and one with a 50:50 program model. Overall, School 1’s 80:20 dual language program model appeared to be more effective than School 2’s 50:50 model in equally developing students’ Spanish and English language acquisition. Teachers and students from both schools indicated room for growth in their respective programs

The Impact of Prior Learning Assessment on Student Success and Completion: A Systematic Literature Review

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) has gained substantial traction within post-secondary institutions across the United States in recent years as a mechanism to enhance accessibility and affordability for adult learners. The increased interest in PLA affirms the notion that learning, and competency gained through experience, training, and certifications acquired outside of post-secondary institutions may meet learning outcomes and competencies established by colleges and universities. Extensive research has been conducted on PLA methods and practices; however, there is a distinct gap in systematic evidence regarding how PLA interventions affect student success and completion in post-secondary education. This study addresses this gap by systematically reviewing the impact of PLA on these outcomes using the PRISMA framework. The search yielded 44 studies from 2010 to 2018. A total of 10 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were selected for full-text review, bibliometric analysis, and chronological review. The findings show a positive impact of PLA, with students benefiting from higher graduation rates, shorter completion periods, and reduced tuition costs. Notably, Black, and Hispanic students experienced the most substantial positive effects. However, the limited number of studies in this area underscores the need for additional research to delve deeper into the factors that contribute to the success and growth of PLA's programs, specifically, the role of college counselors in advising adult students on PLA options needs further study
