Mehr zur Astronomie in den homerischen Epen. Wiener Studien|Wiener Studien 134 134|
While Iliad 10,251–253 has often been translated correctly, Odyssey 12,312 (≈14,483) has not fared nearly as well, although the meaning is basically the same. Whether this means that the author of Iliad 10 improved on the Odyssey or not, Odyssey 12,312 is best understood as meaning “But when it was the third part of the night and the stars had already completed a considerable part of their paths.” In the second part of this article it is argued that τείρεα in Iliad 18,485 means not all stars or constellations, but just the most conspicuous ones, which explains why in Iliad 18,487–489 = Odyssey 5,273–275 it is asserted that only the Great Bear is barred from bathing in the ocean, a problem already debated in antiquity: the seven stars of Ursa maior forming the Big Dipper constitute the only conspicuous group of stars which was circumpolar in archaic Greece. The latter theory, an overlooked explanation of Walter Leaf, can be supported by further evidence
Die gequälte männliche Seele. Grillparzers ›Das Kloster bei Sendomir‹ und das Wiener Biedermeier.. Sprachkunst. Beiträge zur Literaturwissenschaft|Sprachkunst LII / 2021, 1. Halbband|

Preferences, Partners, and Parenthood: Linking Early Fertility Desires, Union Formation Timing, and Achieved Fertility
‘Underachieving’ fertility desires is more common among women with higher levels of education and those who delay the first marriage beyond the mid-twenties. However, the relationship between these patterns, in particular the degree to which marriage postponement explains lower fertility among the highly educated, is not well understood. In this paper, we use data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth-1979 cohort to analyze differences in parenthood and achieved parity for men and women, focusing on the role of union formation timing in achieving fertility goals over the life course. We expand on previous research by distinguishing between entry into parenthood and average parity among parents as pathways to underachieving; by considering variation in the impact of marriage timing by education and by stage of the life course; and by comparing results for men and women. We find that the most educated women who desired three or more children are less likely to become mothers both relative to less-educated counterparts who desired large families and relative to their college-educated peers desiring two children. Once they achieve motherhood, however, they do have the highest average parity. No comparable fatherhood differential by desired family size is present. Postponing marriage beyond the age of 30 is associated with decreases in parenthood and average parity. Age patterns are similar for both women and men, pointing at social rather than biological factors for the underachievement of fertility goals

Integration of Ground Truth Data via Cloud Computing for Enhanced Burn Severity Mapping – An Example from Honduras. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 1|
Until now, most severity products are generated from a reclassification of dNBR index ranges. In this study, we focused on an automated global burn severity mapping approach. Using the catalogue of satellite imagery and the high-performance computing power of GoogleEarthEngine we propose an automated pipeline to generate severity maps of burned areas at a medium scale of 30 and 10m from the time series of Landsat and Sentinel2 images. Landsat-8 images available during 2020 and the dNBR spectral index were used to calculate the severity level of each pixel using a calibration model and linear regression adjustments, which were taken in the field from the CBI index in an app developed for field capture. A calibration approach was carried out to give the severity level of the final burned areas after several carefully designed logic filters on the normalized burn rate (NBR). This script focuses on the fires that occurred in Honduras in 2020. The regression model found a similar spatial distribution and strong correlation between the areas analyzed in the field and those generated from the dNBR. The preliminary global validation showed that the overall accuracy reached 53.85%. However, the adjustments through the correlation models im-proved the results, yielding an R2 of 0.93 for the quadratic model, 0.79 for the Exponential model and 0.72 for the linear model

Trauung und Mailänder Krönung in Rom. Die Doppelzeremonie am 16. März 1452. Römische Historische Mitteilungen|Römische Historische Mitteilungen 63|
On March 16th 1452, on the Thursday before Mid-Lent Sunday, the Romans and their guests witnessed a ‘double’ ceremony, which was exceptional in more than one respect. On the occasion of a solemn papal mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Nicholas V celebrated the marriage of the future imperial couple, Frederick III Habsburg and the Portuguese Infanta Eleonore. Furthermore, Frederick III was crowned with the Iron Crown of Lombardy. This ritual was usually performed in Milan. There are almost thirty reports, in different languages, about these events and ceremonies, which also deliver their own description of the complex procedures taking place at that time. The aim of this article is to reconstruct the ceremony on the basis of these reports and then to analyse it through a comparative approach. Some important objects that were used during both ceremonies will then be examined: two gold rings for the imperial couple and the Iron Crown of Lombardy, the descriptions of which differ greatly in the reports. These ceremonies are then to be seen in a broader context. The article also focuses on the controversial aspect concerning the coronation with the Iron Crown of Lombardy being moved to the Eternal city
