Coastal Landscapes at Punta di Zambrone (Capo Vaticano, Calabria) and their Suitability for Harbour Facilities during the Bronze Age. Orea|Punta di Zambrone I Oriental and European Archaeology Volume 17|

A multidisciplinary approach, including geomorphological and stratigraphical analyses as well as bathymetric, geophysical and subaqueous surveys, has been adopted to reconstruct the morphology of the coasts around the Punta di Zambrone site during the Bronze Age. The main aim was to examine the possibility of the existence of landing places and harbour facilities connected to the settlement, due to the important role that this centre exerted for the maritime trade exchanges in the Tyrrhenian and Aegean Seas. The geomorphological context of the coast north of Punta di Zambrone, characterised by the presence of shoals and rocky cliffs, seems to have been unfavourable to the presence of stable and equipped landing places during the protohistory, also in view of the exposure of the coast to dominant westerly waves. The chances of landing were probably limited to the plain south of the cape. Here, a geophysical survey, coupled with the analysis of a 28m sediment core, highlighted the presence of a protected shallow marine environment, which persisted in this area at least up to the Roman Age

Suggestions on the Selection of Satellite Imagery for Future Remote Sensing-Based Humanitarian Applications. GI_Forum|GI_Forum 2021, Volume 1|

Satellite imagery is an important information source for research on remote sensing (RS)-based humanitarian applications. The selection of satellite imagery is one of the most important steps for such research. This paper firstly shows the selection of satellite imagery in past research from 2015 to 2021. It can be found that most research on land cover and land use (LCLU) change caused by conflicts or refugees/internally displaced persons (IDPs) chose medium spatial resolution (MSR) imagery. Most research on dwelling detection of refugee/IDP camps applied high or very high spatial resolution (HSR/VHSR) imagery. There is much research that applied multiple types of satellite imagery for humanitarian applications. Then, the paper presents general characteristics of commonly available optical satellite imagery. Next, with the development of sensors, this paper suggests that data fusion of SPOT-5 and Sentinel-2 may be helpful in LCLU change detection caused by refugees/IDPs or conflicts. Smallsat imagery may be promising for research on humanitarian applications that require a high temporal frequency of imagery

Understanding women’s well-being in Turkey. Vienna Yearbook of Population Research|Vienna Yearbook of Population Research 2021|

The results of empirical studies focusing on gender differences in subjective wellbeingbased on either national or comparative international data are inconclusive. In Turkey, where levels of gender inequality are high, women tend to report higherlevels of life satisfaction than men. This study investigates the relationship betweenfactors related to women’s empowerment and life satisfaction for both ever-marriedand never-married women using the 2018 Turkey Demographic and Health Survey(TDHS), which collected data on life satisfaction for the first time in a TDHS series. The results show that in addition to their material resources and living environment, factors related to women’s agency – i.e., education and participation in decisionmaking– are associated with women’s levels of life satisfaction
