From a research vision to a state-of-the-art research strategy: UNESCO experts’ meeting in the Karst and River Reka Basin Biosphere Reserve. eco.mont (Journal on Protected Mountain Areas Research and Management)|eco.mont Vol. 12 No. 2 12 2|

UNESCO´s Lima Action Plan (LAP) explicitly calls on biosphere reserves (BRs) to build partnerships with universities and other research institutions to establish research, training and practical learning opportunities. For a BR, a research strategy is an essential framework that provides insights into the work carried out in the area, available data and needs for future research studies. It is the roadmap for adaptive management in a BR. It was therefore a major concern of the Karst and River Reka Basin BR (Škocjan, Slovenia) to develop a research strategy for the greater integration of science and research in the BR in a highly participatory process and with the support of international experts. Scientists, researchers and BR managers from eight countries shared their knowledge and experiences during a 3-day meeting in Škocjan (Slovenia), 23 to 25 October 2019. The importance of research in BRs, proper data management, involvement of local communities for monitoring and research, partnership and education were presented in case studies

Zum Wiederaufbau des akademischen Lehrkörpers in der Psychiatrie in Wien nach 1945. Schwerpunkt: Gesellschaft und Psychiatrie in Österreich 1945 bis ca. 1970

The paper deals with the reestablishment of the academic teaching staff in psychiatry (and neurology, given the fact that psychiatry and neurology formed one academic and practical medical discipline) in Vienna after 1945; its almost total destruction beginning in 1938by expulsion of Jews and political opponents and, continuing for the remaining few, in 1945 for their national socialistic involvements. The paper starts with an overview of the teachers, full professors and associates, in 1937 (before the serious events of 1938), continues with the efforts to guarantee the academic teaching in psychiatry and neurology between 1938 and 1945 and then focuses on the step by step reestablishment of an appropriate academic teaching staff in 1945 and the following 25 years under the direction of Otto Kauders (1893–1949), appointed in 1945, and his sucessor Hans Hoff (1897–1969) who remigrated from the United States in 1949, both confessed students of Julius Wagner-Jauregg (1857–1940). The incoming teachers are described with short biographies, their main scientific topic when qualifying for lecturing and their further role in the field. Markers of their general background are raised. At the end of the period a teaching staff was reestablished that quantitatively resembled the one destroyed in 1938 and was fit to fulfill their individual and societal tasks in the years to come

„so muss und kann auch das sexuelle Gefühlsleben des Weibes kein so wesentlich anderes sein, als das des Mannes“ – Zur Diskursivierung der weiblichen Sexualität in ‚Das Geschlechtslebens des Weibes‘ (61901) von Anna Fischer-Dückelmann. Schwerpunkt: Konzepte sexueller Gesundheit vom Mittelalter bis zum 21. Jahrhundert

At the turn of the century, female sexuality was increasingly discussed, but remained a delicate topic due to social morals and censorship measures. Nonetheless, Anna Fischer-Dückelmann, one of the first female doctors in the German-speaking world, uses “The Sex-Life of Woman” (1901) to inform her female target audience about the female body and sexuality. Recent historical studies have shown that the German turn-of-the-century society was in the process of finding a language to discuss taboo topics such as female sexuality. Simultaneously, a public debate on sexuality and its social significance evolved. With the help of examples drawn from Historical Discourse Analysis (Achim Landwehr) and Critical Discourse Analysis (Siegfried Jäger), this article illustrates Fischer-Dückelmanns’ concept of female sexuality. Furthermore, this paper aims at giving insight into the turn-of-the-century discourse on sexuality by analyzing the discursive strategies that facilitate the discourse on female sexuality

Comparative study on the miscibility of Cu-Fe-Co compounds processed by methods of severe deformation

This thesis deals with investigations regarding the microstructural development of severe plastically deformed samples by high-pressure torsion of the ternary system Cu-Fe-Co, whereby the individual components (besides Co-Fe) are immiscible at the thermodynamic equilibrium. Two various compositions, Cu20(Fe70Co30)80 and Cu20(Fe15Co85)80, were fabricated out of elemental powders, then deformed by high-pressure torsion and exposed to subsequent conventional annealing treatments. The obtained microstructures were compared by using light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-Ray diffraction and Vickers hardness measurements. A single-phase microstructure could be reached for Cu20(Fe15Co85)80. In contrast to that, the Fe-rich samples exhibit residual particles embedded in a supersaturated matrix. The resulting microstructure consists therefore of two phases. An enhancement of intermixing was achieved with powder mixtures, which were pre-treated by ball milling and subsequently deformed by high-pressure torsion. Ball milling, however, led to brittle samples which exhibit more cracks. Nevertheless, grain sizes in the nanocrystalline regime were obtained for all asdeformed samples. Furthermore, conventional annealing led to a homogenous microstructure and grain coarsening in each case. In comparison, the as-deformed and annealed Cu20(Fe15Co85)80 samples exhibit a higher thermal stability
