Zwischen Juristen und Winkelschreibern in Cisleithanien. Ein Studienversuch über öffentliche Agentie anhand der Akten des k.k. Justizministeriums. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2020|
The purpose of this paper is to clarify the type of people who contributed to the local legal services in the Austrian territories under the Austro‐Hungarian Monarchy. The profession of the official agent, established under the court chamber decree of 16 April 1833, was to provide information, prepare administrative documents, or represent clients. After the competences and qualifications of legal professions, such as advocates and notaries, had been stipulated, the government attempted to phase out this profession. Examining the archives in the Ministry of Justice showed that there were many applicants experienced in a certain field when opening the official agent bureaus for tax and finances, military service, and other areas. Primarily, the Ministries agreed to no longer approve agencies. However, in several cases the agents, typically for military service, survived with strictly limited competence, until the end of the Monarchy

Dewatering Systems in Ancient Egyptian Temples and the question of reuse. Ägypten und Levante|Ägypten und Levante XXXI 31|
This article discusses dewatering systems in Egyptian temples from the Early Dynastic to the Graeco-Roman Period (ca. 3000 BCE˗395 AD). In particular, installations for the discharge of rainwater and already used water will be analyzed, followed by whether the water was collected and could, theoretically, be reused – or not. This has not previously been investigated in detail in Egyptology, especially not in connection with the issue of reuse. The analysis does not aim to give a complete record of all features related to water in Egyptian temples – there are over 50 attested in the temple of Repit at Athribis alone – but to show the different types and discuss the possibility of water reuse
Aspekte der österreichischen staatlichen Verwaltung in Dalmatien am Beginn des 20. Jh.. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2020|
Looking at the old Austrian political and state administration, you can largely describe it as elegant. Although its administrative organs in Dalmatia and Vienna also had to safeguard general state interests, they were largely objective. They operated basically supranationally, knew how to deal with crises in a country, tried to balance interests between disputing parties, performed mediation tasks and rejected rather inappropriate desires on the part of the military administration. The success of a smooth administration which saw itself as a hinge between the interests of Vienna and Dalmatia depended to a large extent on the spirit of the various Statthalter (civil representatives of the crown land). These Austrian administrative efforts can only be recognized through an intensive study of unprinted government administrative files
Sprachenvielfalt und Länderautonomie in Österreich-Cisleithanien. Ein schwieriges Verhältnis. Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs|Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs Band 2 / 2020|
The essay describes the emergence and the sources of the law on languages as a very specific legal‐cultural phenomenon of the late Habsburg Monarchy, i.e. under the banner of the December Constitution. The many regulations concerning the languages which had to be used in administration, legislation and at the courts were an attempt of the Austrian state to defuse the ethnic struggle which threatened to disintegrate the Monarchy. However, it was an attempt which was thwarted by the autonomy of the “Länder” and even more so of the local communities. Especially the latter tried to establish uniform linguistic spaces within the respective municipalities. This kind of municipal language policy seriously aggravated the ethnic struggle in the Monarchy

Beyond the victim number: faunistic and ecological data from a road-mortality study in the Iron Gates Natural Park, Romania. eco.mont (Journal on Protected Mountain Areas Research and Management)|eco.mont Vol. 14 No. 1 14 1|
Road mortality is one of the most obvious forms of anthropic impact upon fauna. The Iron Gates Natural Park is an area of great biodiversity, crossed by a 154 km long road running parallel to the Danube River. To estimate the impact of this road upon the fauna, between March 2019 and February 2020 we monitored road mortality on a monthly basis. We recorded 13,230 road-killed animals, belonging to 71 taxa. The greatest proportion of taxa was killed in early summer and the number of individuals killed peaked in autumn. A spring mortality peak was not observed. Cold-blooded animals were killed year-round, even though they should not have been active in winter in Romania. This is a consequence of the warmer climate of the region compared to the rest of Romania, but also the mild winter of 2019 / 2020. Mitigation measures such as stopping the construction of new roads would prevent the problem of animal road deaths being replicated in other areas. In addition to the ecological, zoogeographical and conservation value of its findings, our study also warns of a cause-effect link between global warming and an increase in road mortality
An unconditionally stable semi-implicit CutFEM for an interaction problem between an elastic membrane and an incompressible fluid. ETNA - Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis
In this paper we introduce a finite element method for the Stokes equations with a massless immersed membrane. This membrane applies normal and tangential forces affecting the velocity and pressure of the fluid. Additionally, the points representing this membrane move with the local fluid velocity. We design and implement a high-accuracy cut finite element method (CutFEM) which enables the use of a structured mesh that is not aligned with the immersed membrane, and we formulate a time discretization that yields an unconditionally energy stable scheme. We prove that the stability is not restricted by the parameter choices that constrained previous finite element immersed boundary methods and illustrate the theoretical results with numerical simulations
