    Gambaran Darah Ikan Paweh (Osteochilus hasselti C.V.) dari Danau Lubuk Siam, Kecamatan Siak Hulu, Kabupaten Kampar

    The study on the haematological condition of Osteochilus hasselti C.V. has been conducted on January to February 2011 and aims to understand the blood parameter values of O.hasselti living in the healthy area.Fish samples were obtained from the Lubuk Siam dam that has good water quality.There were 30 fishes (15 males and 15 females), ranged from 9.5 to 14.5 cm SL.The blood was taken from the caudal vena using 1 ml syringe wet with 10% EDTA.Haematological parameters measured were haematocrit and leucocrit levels (Anderson and Siwicki, 1994), total erythrocyte and  leukocyte (Schaperclaus, 1992).Results shown that the haematocrit and leucocrit level were 17–33.33 % and 1.72 - 3.12 % respectively.  Total erythrocyte was 98,000 - 3,330,000 cells/mm3, total leukocytewas 125,000 - 333,000 cells/mm3

    The aim of this research was to know the role of Rhizoctonia sp. fungus from Taman Nasional Rawa Aopa Watumohai (TNRAW) to the successfully acclimatization and growth rate of tiger orchid planlet (Grammatophyllum scriptum Bl.) as well to know successfully infection of fungus Rhizoctonia sp. at the planlet root. The procedure of this research consists 3 main steps, they were fungus inoculation on orchid’s growing media, growth test and verification of successfully infection on planlet root. Growth test consisting of 3 treatments namely control (without nutrition and fungi) (K0); Rhizoctonia sp. application (R1); Rhizoctonia sp. + nutrition Potato Dextrose Borth (PDB) (R2) with the repetition for 8 times, then the growth data was analysed by statistics utilizes to F-test and continue by BNT-test on 95% trusty level. The result of the research showed that R2 treatment increase high planlet, leaf and root number. All the mean score of research indicator R2 was highest compared R1 and K0. The result of F-test showed R1 and R2 treatment gave significant influence toward the high planlet, leaf and root number growth. Except, fresh and dry weight planlet. Eventhough, fresh and dry weight was higher compared than K0 acclimatization period for a month.  Rhizoctonia sp. fungus infected planlet root through velamen to eksodermis and cortex by forming hifa scroll (pelotons)

    The objective of this research was to know the understory species diversity and to identified the potency of medicinal plants in Ranggawulung Urban Forest. The method of this research is vegetation analysis using circular plot (4 m in diameter), we used 30 plot in the site. We counted number of individuals and species richness. Importance Value Index, Simpson’s, and Shanon-Wiener Index was calculated to describe it’s diversity. The result showed Ranggawulung Urban Forest had high of understory diversity (Shanon-Wiener Index 3,36).  There was 56 understory species, and 19 of them was identified as medicinal plants. There are Ageratum conyzoides, Piper aduncum, Sida rhombifoli, Eupatorium odoratum, and Turnera ulmifolia. The utilization of this potency and the effort to conserve both ex-situ and insitu are also elaborated

    Kajian Pembuatan Xilitol dari Tongkol Jagung Melalui Proses Fermentasi

    One of the substitute for sucrose is xylitol. Xylitol is a sweetener that has excellent properties for food development and pharmaceutical products. Xylitol can be obtained from the hydrolysis of xylan into xylose, and then converted into xylitol with fermentation by using Candida tropicalis yeast. Corn cob as agricultural waste is one important source of xylose because xylan  content in range of 12.4 to 31.94%. The success of the fermentation reaction is influenced by several operating parameters, such as raw material type, the type of yeast used, the ratio of raw materials for fermentation reactions, temperature, pH conditions, and time. Xylitol production in this research was conducted through several stages such as pretreatment of raw material, hydrolysis, xylose treatment, and fermentation. Corn cobs were used as raw material for source of xylan. The variables of fermentation were time and temperature i.e 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours and 30, 34, and 37oC respectively. This research revealed that the optimum condition applied at 30oC and 48 hours with yield 0.558 g xylitol/g xylose.  It showed  that  the effective growth of Candida tropicalis occur at 30oC and 48 hours

    Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Struts) a type of corn of high economic value, not only used for consumption also used to make syrup. Imperata is one of the weeds that interfere with crop cultivation, but efforts continue to be made use of weeds as an addition to soil organic matter. The study was conducted to determine the concentration of the extract Imperata (Imperata cylindrica L.) appropriate in the sweet corn growth and determine the concentration of extract proper Imperata in the growth and production. The research method is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 9 treatments and 3 replicates. The results showed that treatment of Imperata extracts with varying concentrations significantly influenced the growth of plant height and leaf number. But not significantly to the growth of the leaf length, leaf width, stem diameter, number of rows per cob, number of seeds per row and plant dry weight. At a concentration of 200 g / 250 ml was able to reduce the vegetative and generative growth of sweet corn

    The research aims to determine the diet of microchiroptera bats in   urban areas..  The research was done in June 2012 to August 2012. Sample of bat was captured in six locations using misnet and harp net at bat foraging areas.  Stomach contents was collected and dissolved in aquadest. The material of insect were sorted and identified under microscope and compare to the insects that were collected by light trap in bat foraging area. The data were analyzed by Principle Component Analysis (PCA). There were three species of insectivorous bat which catch at South Tangerang and South Jakarta. The insects in gut content of insectivorous bats belong to 8 orders, distributed into 12 families. Based on prey preference, the insectivorous bats can be classified into two groups.  This study proves that the tomcat beetles eaten by Hipposideros sp. and Chaerophon plicata, while Lymantriidae moth being eaten by Hipposideros sp. and  Murina sp

    The allelopathic substances are an organic agents which produced and released by a plant that cause alteration on the neighboring plants. This research was aimed to determine the effect of Ageratum conyzoides L. leaf extract and also to determine optimum concentration on seed germination and growth of weed Paspalum conjugatum Berg.. This experiment used to extract concentration 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The experiment showed that germination and growth of Paspalum conjugatum Berg.were reduced and to happen damage by leaf extract of Ageratum conyzoides L. The highest germination, growth inhibition and demage at concentrations of the leaf extract 20% respectively are 80.5%, 63.15% dan 17,72 %

    Introducing of Milkfish (Chanos chanos) was aimed to utilize natural food from plankton that were abundant in Ir. H. Juanda Reservoir, West Java. This research aimed to know plankton utilization by Milkfish in Ir. H. Juanda Reservoir, West Java. The research was conducted from February to July 2010 at 4 stations of sampling which representing the reservoir condition. The fishes collected based on the catch of fishermen. The sample was analyzed in physiology laboratory of Center Research for Limnology. The result of this research showed that the main food were plankton 43%, detritus 46%, and complement food were vegetation 11%. The domination food from the phytoplankton were Bacillariophyceae and zooplankton were Copepoda

    There are five species of rhinoceros in the world, two types of African (Diceros bicornis and Ceratotherium simum) and three species in Asia (Rhinoceros unicornis, Rhinoceros sondaicus and Dicerorhinus sumatrensis). Indonesia has two types, namely: the Javan rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus Desmarest, 1822) and the Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis Fischer, 1814).Both types of rhino in Indonesia is not endemic wildlife, but it is a species relich; formerly spread is very wide, but now in addition to the steadily declining population is also more limited distribution. This happens because it is caused by the conversion of forests as a habitat for rhinos, plantations, settlements, and exploitation of space for various purposes. Hunting of two species of rhinoceros also has a long history, so that a distribution in some places have been lost; as well as the habitat that has been designated as a conservation area too, the population in the last 35 years continues to decline. Therefore both the rhino species has been categorized by the IUCN (International Union of Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) as critical or threatened species (Critical Endangered Species), highly endangered species. Due to the critical status, then efforts were made to save him. But it seems these efforts have not maximized, because not all potential or the ability  multi-party support to carry out rescue from extinction
