Exploring Socioeconomic, Demographic and Psychological Predictors of At-risk Gambling and Participation in Specific Gambling Activities: A Comparative Approach
In this research, we aimed to provide a comparative examination of at-risk gambling and four types of gambling activities from the standpoint of socioeconomic, demographic and psychological factors. Using data collected from 7,385 adults aged 18–64 from Serbia, we investigated how specific variables contribute to the likelihood of participation in lottery playing, sports betting, casino games, and slot games across the three time frames (lifetime, last year, and last month), and at-risk gambling. Logistic regressions revealed that male sex, ages 18 to 34, drug use, harmful alcohol use, and elevated levels of distress were significant predictors of participation in any point of life in sports betting, casino games, and slot games, and at-risk gambling. Secondary education, residing in an urban area, and harmful alcohol use predicted – across three time frames – the engagement in lottery playing, sports betting, and slot games playing, respectively. Smoking, and specifically heavy smoking, was shown to be predictive of lifetime participation in all types of gambling, while having single marital status and being unemployed emerged as the factors increasing the odds for the last-month slot games playing. Notably, the 18 to 24 age cohort turned out to be the most vulnerable part of the population, as they displayed the largest odds for at-risk gambling, and both lifetime and last-year involvement in sports betting, casino games, and slot games playing. This highlights the necessity of targeted public health interventions for the young adult population and people who experiment or already experience problems related to substance use
Higher Education Branding through Instrumental Values
Due to the complexity of the educational market, changes are also occurring
in the field of education itself - from the constant transformation of the curriculum
to new trends in the management of education at all levels. Faculties compete with
each other for the best students, professors, projects, discoveries and resources.
This forces higher education institutions, which want to survive in the long term
and to be highly listed on the market, to take special care of their reputation and
prestige. In order to improve their quality and thereby ensure a competitive
advantage, higher education institutions use brand management activities to
emphasize the values on which their engagement is based. The aim of the paper is
to investigate the opinion of students - users of the service of a higher education
institution and to show the importance of instrumental values on the basis of which
the faculty brand should be shaped. Descriptive statistics and survey techniques were used in the empirical research, and the sample consisted of 403 respondents -
students at six private and state faculties. The obtained results indicate a positive
opinion of the respondents about instrumental values, such as those on which a
higher education institution should build its brand. This finding provides a basis
for the creators of not only higher education brands, but also for the creation of
study programs based on the estimated value, an incentive for further research of
other values in higher education, as well as for the creation of an optimal brand
model of higher education institutions
Professional Traineeship Programme as a Tool Facilitating Participation of Unemployed Youth in the Labour Market: Case Study of the Republic of Serbia
Active labour market policies (ALMPs) aim to increase employment mainly
targeting vulnerable groups as beneficiaries ‒ long-term unemployed,
youth, women, people with disabilities, Roma, etc. The prevalence of
ALMPs and their intensity vary from country to country as determined
by available financial resources, targeted beneficiaries’ characteristics
as well as the labour market characteristics. The objective of this paper
is to examine the 12-month Professional Traineeship Programme (PTP)
implemented by the National Employment Service (NES) of the Republic
of Serbia. The programme was conducted from 2017 to 2018 assigning
9,561 participants to workplace training based on their educational
background with a view to easing the transition from education to work.
Our analysis illustrates the characteristics and labour market outcomes
of the programme’s participants. Every third participant got employed in
the company after completing the programme, and after one year every
second participant was employed (in the same company or elsewhere).
We find that those who participated in the programme in the public
sector were somewhat less likely to gain employment a year after its
completion. Moreover, women were more likely to be employed one year
after finishing the traineeship as well as those who were better educated
and those who lived in more economically developed regions. Gender,
education level and one’s regional background are therefore found to
be important correlates of success in securing employment when young
people enter the labour market following education
Behavioral inhibition, behavioral activation, and impulsivity in the Dark Triad
Gray’s Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory postulates that the behavioral inhibition
system (BIS) is responsible for regulating anxiety and fear in response to external
stimuli, while the behavioral activation system (BAS) is responsible for processing
positive cues such as rewards. Dickman’s model distinguishes dysfunctional impulsivity (DI), characterized by non-reflective decision-making, from functional
impulsivity (FI), which reflects the propensity of making quick decisions when
advantageous. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of the BIS/BAS
and DI/FI to explain the variance in the Dark Triad traits. The sample included
318 convenient-recruited participants (Mage = 28.67, SDage = 8.95; 75.2% females)
who completed the BIS/BAS scales (BIS, BAS Fun Seeking, BAS Reward Responsiveness, and BAS Drive), Dickman’s Impulsivity Inventory and Short Dark Triad
(Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy). BAS Reward Responsiveness
and BAS Drive were significant predictors of Machiavellianism, which indicated
that individuals high on this trait could be sensitive to positive reinforcement. BIS,
BAS Fun Seeking, and DI were significant predictors of psychopathy, while BIS, all
BAS scales, and FI were significant predictors of narcissism. These results suggest
that poor inhibition, low impulse control, and a strong tendency to approach pleasure-oriented activities are the factors that significantly contribute to explaining
the surface of psychopathy, and they could be seen as particularly important for
maladaptive behavior. On the other hand, individuals with high narcissism may be sensitive to positive reinforcement, goal-oriented, and exhibit functional impulsivity, which allows them to capitalize on opportunities
i eksternog okruženja.

Did Covid-19 change the inclination toward entrepreneurship among young adults in Serbia?
The Dark Triad and forgiveness: The mediating role of anger
Previous studies indicated that the Dark Triad, anger rumination, and forgiveness are interrelated, but their interplay received limited attention. Therefore, we examined whether anger ruminations could mediate the Dark Triad relationship with forgiveness in a community sample of 629 participants. Machiavellianism and psychopathy showed a consistent pattern of positive correlations with anger ruminations and negative with forgiveness. In contrast, narcissism exhibited a low negative correlation only with anger rumination related to thoughts of revenge. The path analysis indicated that the effects of Machiavellianism and psychopathy on the absence of negative thoughts, feelings, and behavior toward wrongdoers are mediated through three anger rumination dimensions (angry afterthoughts, angry memories, thoughts of revenge) partially and fully, respectively. Machiavellianism and psychopathy associations with the presence of positive thoughts, feelings, and behavior toward a wrongdoer were fully mediated via thoughts of revenge. Overall, our study highlights the important mediating role of anger rumination in relationships between dark traits and forgiveness
društva u celini funkcionišu i komuniciraju u privatnom i poslovnom okruženju. Upotreba digitalizovanih, onlajn
dokumenata olakšava njihovu upotrebu, a izdvajaju se i velike koristi u kontekstu zaštite životne sredine. Upotrebom
štampanih materijala, uz istovremeno redukovanje upotrebe vode i generisanja otpada.
digitalne repozitorijume u nauci
Gold and Sustainable Stocks in the US and EU: Nonlinear Analysis Based on Multifractal Detrended Cross-Correlation Analysis and Granger Causality
Geopolitical risks and conflicts wield substantial influence on the global economy and financial markets, fostering uncertainty and volatility. This study investigates the intricate relationship between gold and representatives of green and sustainable stocks in the US and EU during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, employing multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MF-DCCA) and nonlinear Granger causality. MF-DCCA reveals significant multifractal properties and nonlinear cross-correlations across all time series pairs. Notably, conflict weakened the multifractal cross-correlations between US stocks and gold, except for the TESLA/gold pair. A similar significant change in the EU market’s multifractal properties was observed during the conflict. In conjunction with MF-DCCA, Granger causality tests indicate bidirectional nonlinear relationships between gold and green/sustainable stock markets in the USA and EU. Gold’s past movements significantly influence changes in all the considered green and sustainable stocks, enabling predictions of their behavior. These findings shed light on multifractal dynamics during geopolitical crises and emphasize the bidirectional relationships between gold and green and sustainable stock markets. This comprehensive analysis informs investors and policy makers, enhancing their understanding of financial market behavior amid geopolitical instability
