Activities and Exchanges Conducted by the Reijokai Reading Group in the Prewar Period ： Analysis of the album by readers of the R. J. R. Reijo Junjo Renmei
Get PDF本稿は戦前期における文芸雑誌『令女界』読者グループの活動とグループ間の交流について、読者が残したアルバム及び原誌の記載から考えようとするものである。
文芸雑誌『令女界』は、東京の宝文館から1922（大正11）年に創刊された。女学校在学生から卒業後の未婚女性を対象とする、少女雑誌と婦人雑誌の中間的な雑誌だった。読者の投稿欄に人気があり、次第に読者グループが生まれた。読者の希望により1935（昭和10）年に、同誌編集部は全国的な読者グループ「R・J・R 令女純情連盟」（以下、R・J・R と表記）を組織した。各地の読者が支部を結成し、それぞれが活動した。グループの活動としては、月1回程度例会を開き、『令女界』の内容や文学作品などについて検討したり、ジェスチャーなどのゲームに興じたり、各自のサイン帳にサインを交換したりした。そのほか、新年のかるた会やクリスマス会、ピクニックやハイキングなどで、会員の親睦を深めた。
横浜市史資料室所蔵の篠原あや資料に、R・J・R 横浜支部と全国の各支部に関する写真を集めたアルバムが含まれている。横浜の詩人篠原あや（1917―2016、本名田中静子、結婚後は吉田）は、かつてR・J・R 横浜支部に所属し、各支部の行事や読者の写真を集めたアルバムを残した。雑誌の読者がそのグループの活動について、一冊にまとめたアルバムは貴重である。読者グループの活動に参加した人々の交流や、その時の会場の様子、服装などを具体的に知ることができる。本稿では、篠原あや資料アルバムに収録された、写真や書き込みなどを分析する。アルバムには、横浜支部の行事や、『令女界』誌面に掲載された各地の支部の記念写真、会員たちのスナップなどが収められている。支部間の交流の様子がわかる資料である。時期的には1936（昭和11）年から1941（昭和16）年までである。この間、1937（昭和12）年には日中戦争が勃発し、戦時色が強まっていく状況も感じられる。
本研究では、『令女界』原誌を調査し、R・J・R の報告及び告知を掲載した同誌「R・J・R 告知板」の記載によりアルバムの写真や書き込みを補完した。そして、篠原がアルバムに込めた意図をさぐり、読者にとっての『令女界』とR・J・R の意味を明らかにした。自分たちの希望によりR・J・R の会合を開き、行事に参加したり、文通したりして全国各地の会員たちと交流を深めることは、当時の女性たちにとって、家や学校や仕事からつかの間自由になれる大切な時であった。
篠原あやのアルバムは、若い頃のR・J・R 会員たちの時間を閉じ込めた存在と結論づけられる。This paper examines the activities of the reading groups of the literary magazine “Reijokai” in the prewar period and the exchanges between the groups from the albums and original magazines left behind by readers.
The literary magazine “Reijokai” was first published in 1922 （Taisho 11） by Hobunkan in Tokyo. It was a magazine that was aimed at unmarried women from girls’ school students to graduates, and was an intermediate level between girls’ magazines and women’s magazines.
The reader submission section was popular, and in time a reader group was established.
In 1935 （Showa 10）, at the request of readers, the editorial department of the magazine organized a nationwide reading group, the R. J. R. Reijo Junjo Renmei（literally young and pure girl alliance ; hereinafter referred to as R. J. R.）.
Readers from all over the country formed chapters, and each of them was active.
As for the group’s activities, they held regular meetings about once a month to discuss the contents of “Reijokai” and literary works, played games such as gestures, and exchanged signatures on each person’s autograph book.
In addition, New Year’s karuta parties, Christmas parties, picnics, and hikes were held to deepen friendships among members.
The City of Yokohama Municipal Archives Reference Room contains an album of photographs of the R. J. R. Yokohama Branch in particular and all branches nationwide in general.
Yokohama poet Aya Shinohara （1917―2016, real name Shizuko Tanaka, and Shizuko Yoshida after her marriage） once belonged to the R. J. R. Yokohama chapter and left behind an album of photographs of the events and readers of each chapter.
Albums that magazine readers have compiled into a single volume about a group’s activities are extremely valuable.
One can learn about the interactions of the people who participated in the activities of the reading group, the conditions of the venues at that time, and the clothes they were wearing.
In this paper, I analyze the photographs and writings recorded in the Aya Shinohara R. J. R. album.
The album contains records of events of the Yokohama branch, commemorative photographs of chapters in various regions published in the magazine “Reijokai”, and snapshots of members.
It is a document that shows the state of exchange between branches. It covers the time period from 1936（Showa 11） to 1941（Showa 16）.
During this time, the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937 （Showa 12）, and the wartime situation was strengthening.
In this study, I examined the original journal of “Reijokai” and supplemented the photographs and notes in the album with descriptions from the magazine’s “R. J. R. Kokuchiban,” which published R. J. R.’s reports and announcements.
Then, I explored Shinohara’s intentions for the album and clarified the meaning of “Reijokai” and R. J. R. for readers.
Holding R. J. R. meetings from their own will, participating in events, and communicating with members all over the country through correspondence was an important opportunity for women at that time to be momentarily free from the pressures of home, school, and work.
It can be concluded that Aya Shinohara’s album is a presence that acts as a time trap, distilling the situation of the R. J. R. members in their youth.論文departmental bulletin pape
