A Study on the “Wind Strength” Meant by Cold Blow in Temple Ewell Civil Parish : Based on the Weather Forecast in Winter 2021-22"
Cold Blow is a name for a deserted farmstead isolated on an inland hilltop at the edge of the valley in Temple Ewell Civil Parish in Kent. By analyzing the meteorological data obtained from the local weather forecast, this paper intends to explore the “wind strength” which is supposed to be the source of the meaning “blast of wind” given by the second element of the place-name blow. In order to carry out the contrastive comparison with Cold Blow, Folkestone was selected, because the city is located on the coastal level plain in the vicinity. Consequently, it has been concluded that, in the winter season, the “wind strength” at Cold Blow is stronger than that at Folkestone, and that the former result might be based on the fact that the extent of correlation between the directions of the prevalent winds and those of the stronger winds is greater at Cold Blow than at Folkestone.〔論文〕departmental bulletin pape
