数値解析に基づく土壌中水分再分布のモデル化
ArticleSoil moisture is one of most important hydrological variables. Its redistribution have significant effects on evaporation, infiltration and groundwater recharge. Recently, its impacts on climate system is widely recognized. High non-linearity of Richards' equation makes its practical applications very difficult. Many soil moistue accounting hydrological models or land surface schemes (LSSs) take soil moisture into account conceptually as an index of wetness. Even Richards' equation based LSSs, used and evaluated in the global soil wetness project (GSWP) and/or the atmospheric model intercomparison project (AMIP), have only several soil layers. In order to develop a model to represent soil moisture redistribution in vertical direction for a better soil moisture accounting scheme, a high resolution numerical model solving vertical 1D Richards' equation is developed and applied to 9 soils in this study. By analyzing the soil moisture movement derived, two fomulae are proposed with parameters estimated from soil parameters. It is shown that these fomulae represented the behavior of soil water in soil column and at the surface fairly well.journal articl

Photocatalytic oxidation mechanism of methanol and the other reactants in irradiated TiO2 aqueous suspension investigated by OH radical detection
ArticleThe oxidation reaction mechanisms of organic additives, such as alcohols (MeOH and EtOH) and inorganic ions (I-, Br-and SCN-) in photocatalysis were elucidated by a fluorescence probe method by employing coumarin and coumarin-3-carboxy acid as fluorescence probes. The general scheme of the oxidation and probing of OH radicals with coumarin was proposed. For the inorganic ions the photocatalytic oxidization was found to take place through OH radicals while for the organic molecules the oxidization should proceed by the exertion of the holes trapped on the TiO2 surface. This is supported by the fact that the quantum efficiency of the CO2 formation by MeOH oxidation was about ten times larger than that of the OH radical formation. The OH radicals in solution are most probably in equilibrium with the trapped holes, and the equilibrium constant could be estimated to be about 0.014 by assuming the diffusion controlled reaction of MeOH with trapped holes.journal articl
Application of Constrained Interpolation Profile Method to Solve the Richards Equation
ArticleThe objective of this study was to solve the Richards equation by constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method for unsaturated homogenous soil. The Richards equation was divided into advection and non-advection phases. Advection phase was approximated by CIP method while, the non-advection phase was approximated by explicit method. For the computational purpose, MATLAB platform (version 7.12.0) was used. The CIP method was applied for 12 soil types. However, this paper analyzed the results of four major soil types; sand, loam, silt and clay. The CIP outputs for all soil types displayed common pattern and agreement with the available literatures. The simulated results were compared with those of well-known Hydrus-1D model. The CIP outputs showed well agreement with Hydrus-1D. The proposed method could be a useful tool for predicting the infiltration as well as water movement in the vadoze zone.journal articl
