Surimi Quality Leaftail Croaker Fish with Differences of Leaching Frequency
Leaftail croaker fish (Johnius sp) is one of less economically important demersal bycatch, abundant yet underutilized. Efforts to increase the economic value into surimi product, since it has tender, white and thick texture of meat. As an important factor in surimi production process, this study aimed effects of different leaching frequency on chemical and physical characteristics of product in order to obtain its optimum frequency. Completely randomized design was used with 3 different leaching frequency and 3 repetitions. Further, each sample were analysed chemically using proximate analysis (water content, protein content and fat content) and physically using sensory analysis (folding and cutting test). Statistical non parametric Kruskal Wallis test was conducted to have significance level of folding and cutting test. More leaching frequency increases water content value, but decrease protein and fat content value in surimi. Statistical analysis suggested that optimum characteristics of surimi resulted from 2 times leaching with water content of 82.61%, protein content of 15.58% and fat content of 0.36%. Although, sensory analysis showed that leaching frequency positively correlated to the value of folding and cutting test, 2 times leaching was also optimum for surimi production process
Formulation of sunscreen cream from seaweed (Turbinaria sp.) and Kaempferia galangal
Sunscreen cream products are usually derived from ingredients that contain an anti-UV component. Kaempferia galanga and Turbinaria sp. as long as it was known to have a good anti-UV light. However, research on the formulation of sunscreen creams from the two ingredients has never been done, so the need for research from both materials. The objective of this study was to get the best formulation of sunscreen cream from seaweed (Turbinaria sp.) and K. galanga. The treatments used in this study were the ratio between seaweed Turbinaria sp. and K. galanga in a ratio of 1: 1 (Cream A), 1: 2 (Cream B), 2: 1 (Cream C), and control (Cream D). The overall organoleptic value of aroma was not significantly different, whereas the best value for color and texture was found in cream B with an organoleptic value of color 3.27 and texture 3.2. All treatments were homogeneous and had an O/W emulsion type. pH and viscosity values in all treatments were by the applicable cosmetic cream requirements. Quality Characteristics of Seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) Transparent Solid Soap with Different Glycerine Concentrations
Soap is a form of cosmetic preparation that is in demand by the public for the skin. This study aims to determine the optimum concentration of glycerin and determine the characteristics of transparent solid soap of seaweed produced. The research was carried out in April-October 2018. The making of soap uses three different of glycerin concentration (49 g, 59 g and 69 g). Based on the results of the study, seaweed transparant solid soap in accordance with Indonesian National Standarization 2016, except water content. Water content are 29.70%, 29.87%, and 39.77%. The best results for free fatty acid level testing were at glycerin concentration 59 g of 0.07%, the best results from non-soapy numbers were at glycerin concentration of 49 g and 69 g of 0.16%. The results of sensory analysis showed that the addition of glycerin 59 g was the best result based on the panelist's evaluation of the transparency parameter, while for the best impression the net concentration was based on the panelist's assessment of the addition of glycerin 49 g.
Diversity and Distribution of Macroalgae in Beralas Bakau Island, Gunung Kijang District, Bintan Regency
Bintan Regency have potential aquatic resources which have ecologically important value, one of these resources is macroalgae or seaweed. The objective of this study was to determine the composition of species, density, distribution patterns and environmental factors that influence the presence of macroalgae in the waters of the Beralas Bakau island. This research was conducted with a random method of 30 points using a 2x2 m plot. The results of the study found 7 types of macroalgae namely, Acanthophora spicifera, Caulerpa lentillifera, Gracilaria Salicornia, Halimeda opuntia, Kappaphycus cottonii, Padina australis, and Sargassum cristaefolium. The highest density was Sargassum cristaefolium (34.75 ind/m²) and the lowest was H. opuntia (0.25 ind/m²) with a total overall value of species density 51.25 ind/m². The distribution pattern value was uniform with a value of -2.843. Based on the results obtained from the Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the relationship between phosphate parameters and pH was more closely related to the density of macroalgae types compared with other chemical physics parameter
Maritime Limit Conflict, Illegal Fishing and Enformance of Effort in Natuna Sea Region between Indonesia and China
Indonesia tries to protect sea areas to avoid illegal fishing cases and maritime boundary disputes. Illegal fishing that occurred in Natuna resulted in decreased income from the fishery side due to the existence of illegal fishing practices. Various attempts have been made by the Indonesian government to deal with illegal fishing by foreign fishermen and local fishermen. The case of illegal fishing that occurred at the end of 2019 was carried out by the Chinese state in Natuna waters which had triggered tension between Indonesia and China, which was triggered by different perceptions related to maritime boundaries where China used the nine-dash line concept that was not by UNCLOS recognized by the UN. This study aims to explain the nine-dash line concept that underlies unilateral claims to China, and the concept of UNCLOS which underlies ownership of the Natuna waters by Indonesia and efforts to enforce illegal fishing in the Natuna Islands. Utilization of Golden Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) for Growth and Stimulate Color of Red Melon Discus Fish Juvenile (Symphysodon aequifasciata)
Golden snail contains high protein and carotenoids. Red melon discus fish requires high protein for growth and can be used for enhancing color. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of golden snail as a substitution of silkworms to increase growth and stimulate the color of red melon discus fish. The experiment used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments are 100% silk worm (A), 75% silkworm + 25% golden snail (B), 50% silkworm + 50% golden snail (C), 25% silkworm + 75% golden snail (D), and 100% golden snail (E). After acclimated, red melon discus fish of 0.32 ± 0.16 g and 2.41±0.02 cm in average weight and length were randomly stocked in 15 aquaria of 40x30x35 cm3 in dimension size containing 30 L water at 10 fingerlings/aquarium and given feed test as much as 5% body weight with frequency of 2 times a day for 56 days of the experimental period. The parameters that observed is survival rate, absolute weight, absolute growth, feed consumption and color. The results showed that high level of golden snail caused declining growth performance of red melon discus fish (P<0.05) and does not affect the color of discus fish (P>0.05) but can improve color quality during the experimental period. Substitution of golden snail to silkworm as much as 25% resulted in the highest growth performance and stimulate color of red melon discus fish
Marketing Chain and Quality of Mackerel Tuna (Euthynnus affinis) Landed at Labuan Coastal Fishing Port
The highest fish production in Labuan Coastal Fishing Port (LCFP) is mackerel tuna which reached 41,953 ton (22.1%) of total production. Mackerel tuna is economical and perishable commodity. Therefore, it requires a good marketing chain to maintain its quality. The purpose of this research is to determine the marketing chain of mackerel tuna landed at LCFP; determine the marketing margins of each marketing agent; and analyze the quality of mackerel tuna from unloading ship to the consumer. This research was conducted in March-April 2019 at LCFP. This study used the survey method. While the methods used for quality testing of tuna are sensory (visual observations) or by organoleptic tests by parameters in the form of eye conditions, gills, meat and odor texture of fresh fish standards using a score sheet based on BSN. Checking the quality of fish is done at every marketing chain. Data analysis was carried out descriptively. The result show that there are four types of marketing chains in LCFP. The highest marketing margin obtained by outside trades (IDR 5,000 or 20%) on the fourth channel and the lowest margin sales obtained by main collectors on the second and third channels (IDR 2,000 or 8%). The longer the marketing chain, the lower the quality of mackerel tuna.
Analysis of Code of Conduct Responsibilities Fisheries (CCRF) on Fishing Gear in Dumai
The development of capture fisheries based on the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) use to optimally the potential of capture fisheries. Fishing gears that use in Dumai City are gill net, push net, and drifting longline. The research was conducted to analyze the fishing gear that used by fishermen in Dumai City based on the CCRF document as a continuation in providing policies of fishing gear. The method of data collection is use a questionnaire and statistic of description is used to data analysis. The results showed the drawbacks of the use of gill nets that are found in the quality of fish caught tend to be slightly physically defective (part of the operculum), and can make the to other species die because the net traps and makes fish spun. Sondong can not be recommended as a good fishing gear based on the CCRF, because the mesh size used is small so the selectivity of sondong is low, and the technique of sondong operation can damage the habitat. Drifting longline is a fishing gear that is selective and environmentally friendly, although viewed from the types of fish that caught, longline has the potential to catch the fish that protected by law based on the main catch is stingrays. However, stingrays that caught by fishermen in dumai are not the fish that protected by law. The conclusion of the study is gill net and drifting longline are recommended fishing gear to fishermen in Dumai city, because it is appropriate with the provisions of the CCRF documen
