A hybrid heuristic for a broad class of vehicle routing problems with heterogeneous ?eet
Abstract We consider a family of rich vehicle routing problems (RVRP) which have the particularitytocombineaheterogeneous?eetwithotherattributes, suchasbackhauls, multiple depots, split deliveries, site dependency, open routes, duration limits, and time windows. To ef?ciently solve these problems, we propose a hybrid metaheuristic which combines an iteratedlocalsearchwithvariableneighborhooddescent, forsolutionimprovement, andaset partitioning formulation, to exploit the memory of the past search. Moreover, we investigate aclassofcombinedneighborhoodswhichjointlymodifythesequencesofvisitsandperform eitherheuristicoroptimalreassignmentsofvehiclestoroutes.Tothebestofourknowledge, this is the ?rst uni?ed approach for a large class of heterogeneous ?eet RVRPs, capabl

Solving large-scale time capacitated arc routing problems: from real-time heuristics to metaheuristics
Abstract This study conceptually explores the structural and emotional aspects of informal social networks in South Korea by examining the indigenous concepts of jeong, woori, inmaek, andyongo in relation to the theories of social networks, social capital, and social exchange. We suggest extending extant knowledge of the latter by pursuing the geocentric integration of Eastern and Western schools of thought on crucial elements of social networks, chiefly by focusing on affective characteristics compared to the conventional and dominant focus on cognitive characteristics. Moreover, we highlight the dualistic nature of informal ties by adapting the notions of yinyang and zhongyong. Based on the results of our analysis, we suggest explicitly integrating interpersonal affection and the role of emotions as the constituting elements of social network development and cohesion. Keywords Affectiveties.Socialnetworkcharacteristics.Informality.Emotions.Jeong. How family firm characteristics affect internationalization of Chinese family SMEs
Abstract This study investigates the effect of family characteristics on the internationalization activities ofChinese familysmall and medium-sizedenterprises (SMEs)using a socioemotional wealth perspective. We suggest that family ownership negatively affects international expansion. Results using a sample of 1542 Chinese family SMEs support our hypothesis that there is a negative relationship between family ownership and international activities. Due to mixed findings in previous studies, we not only focus on both export intensity and export propensity, but also introduce family firm characteristics (i.e., presence of founder CEOs and family succession intention) as moderators. We argue that these moderators capture a temporal aspect of socioemotional wealth (SEW) and find that they strengthen the negative relationshi
Ownership structure and the use of non-family executives infamily-dominatedChineselistedfirms:Aninstitutional logics perspective
Abstract To investigate the use of non-family versus family executives in familydominated, publicly listed firms, we consider ownership concentration both at the firm level and within the dominant family. Whereas the appointment of family executives is supported byaninstitutionallogic offamilycontrol, the use of non-family, professional executives is guided by a shareholder logic. We suggest that higher levels of ownership held by the dominant family relative to other shareholders propel family owners to adopt the family logic, and higher levels of ownership held by the largest family owner relative to other family members weaken the family logic in favor of the shareholder logic. We test our hypotheses ona sample of 2174 firm-year observations covering635 family-dominated Chinese entrepreneurial firms listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Statistical results indicate that ownership by family increases, and ownership concentration in family decreases, the use of non-family CEO and non-family top management team. Keywords China.Family-dominatedfirms.Institutionallogics.Non-familyexecutives .Ownershipstructur
