    Get PDF
In modern power systems, renewable-based power plant such as wind power system is integrated significantly. Among numerous types of wind power systems doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) is becoming favorable in the last few years. However, adding a wind power plant could give a new challenge to the power system, especially in frequency stability. Hence, it is important to control the frequency of the power system to be able to find its initial condition in every condition. Generally, the frequency of the power system can be controlled by using automatic generation control (AGC). AGC is used to maintain the balance between generating capacity and the load by adding integral control to the governor. However, with more and more wind power systems in the grid conventional AGC is unsuitable. Hence, it is important to have an advanced AGC based on the artificial intelligence method. This paper proposed the application of fuzzy-proportional integrator derivative (fuzzy-PID) for AGC in power systems considering the high penetration of wind power systems. From the simulation results, it is found that the proposed method can reduce the overshoot and accelerate the settling time of frequency better than using conventional AGC

    Get PDF
A novel AC-DC quadratic boost converter (QBC) topology is presented in this paper which can provide higher power factor (PF), lower total harmonic distortion (THD) and higher voltage when compared to a conventional AC-DC boost convertero This is achieved by using additional switched capacitor and switched inductor in the power processing stage. The presented converter is analyzed theoretically, and a voltage gain equation is derived. A simulation model is created to evaluate the converter performance under various duty cycles, switching frequency, and changing output load. The input PF, THD, and voltage gain of the simulated model were compared with conventional converter to determine the validity of the suggested converter circuit. The results show that the efficiency, PF, THD and voltage gain value reaches approximately 97.9%, 0.98, 16.14, and 2.83 respectively at a duty cycle of 50% with fixed output load of 100 Ω. A dual loop voltage and current controller is also arrayed with the proposed circuit which allows further enhancement in PF (0.997) and THD (7.45%). This converter can be a suitable option for systems where isolation is not necessary but high PF, high voltage gain and low THD are required

Experimental investigation of a hybrid photovoltaic-thermal energy system for hot air production

    Get PDF
Solar energy as a non-fossil alternative energy source has become the best choice to overcome the problem of energy demand in most countries in the world. There are two different techniques to convert solar energy: photovoltaic (PV) panels to produce electricity and thermal collectors to generate heat. The two technologies can be combined to provide electrical and thermal energy either simultaneously or separately. In order to optimize the performance of a hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) solar air heater, it is necessary to collect experimental data on solar irradiation and temperature. This paper emphasized the development of a PVT energy system for hot air production in a temperature range of 50-55 °C. Additionally, experiments were constructed to monitor the information acquired from the proposed PVT solar air heater and the environment, such as hot air temperature, ambient temperature, and solar irradiation. The real-time monitoring system was set for five sample days. A microcontroller unit was used to control the hot air temperature and save the measurement data into memory. The experimental results showed that the proposed PVT solar air heater is capable of maintaining a certain level of hot air temperature throughout the day and night

Proposed threshold-based and rule-based approaches to detecting duplicates in bibliographic database

    Get PDF
Bibliographic databases are used to measure the performance of researchers, universities and research institutions. Thus, high data quality is required and data duplication is avoided. One of the weaknesses of the threshold-based approach in duplication detection is the low accuracy level. Therefore, another approach is required to improve duplication detection. This study proposes a method that combines threshold-based and rule-based approaches to perform duplication detection. These two approaches are implemented in the comparison stage. The cosine similarity function is used to create weight vectors from the features. Then, the comparison operator is used to determine whether the pair of records are grouped as duplication or not. Three research databases: Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, and Google Scholar (GS) on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) database are investigated. Rule 4 and Rule 5 provide the best performance. For WoS dataset, the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-measure values were 100.00%. For Scopus dataset, the accuracy and precision values were 100.00%, recall: 98.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. For GS dataset, the accuracy value was 100.00%, precision: 99.00%, recall: 97.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. The proposed method is potential tool for accurate detection on duplication records in publication databases

Query optimization involves identifying and implementing the most effective and efficient methods and strategies to enhance the performance of queries. This is achieved by intelligently utilizing system resources and considering various performance metrics. Table joining optimization involves optimizing the process of combining two or more tables within a database. Structured query language (SQL) optimization is the progress of utilizing SQL queries in the possible way to achieve fast and accurate database results. SQL optimization is critical to decreasing the no of queries in research description framework (RDF) and the time for processing a huge number of relatable data. In this paper, four new algorithms are proposed such as hash-join, sort-merge, rademacher averages and mapreduce for the progress of SQL query join optimization. The proposed model is evaluated and tested using waterloo sparql diversity test suite (WatDiv) and lehigh university benchmark (LUBM) benchmark datasets in terms of time execution. The results represented that the proposed method achieved an enhanced performance of less execution time for various queries such as Q3 of 5362, Q8 of 5921, Q9 of 5854 and Q10 of 5691 milliseconds. The proposed gives better performance than other existing methods like hybrid database-map reduction system (AQUA+) and join query processing (JQPro)

    Get PDF
Problems of space debris, space security threats and space accidents are an escalating topic that is drawing attention from scientists and researchers worldwide. Based on the practical demand for detecting and surveilling objects in Earth's orbit in the Vietnam's sky area, the research group has designed a space monitoring system to detect and identify orbiting objects using optical telescopes. The idea of this system is to utilize wide and narrow field-of-view (FOV) optical telescope systems to observe and identify the trajectory of orbiting objects. After an image of an unknown object is captured with a wide FOV telescope, an analyzing algorithm will process and predict the trajectory of it, with support of artificial intelligence, and determine whether there is the appearance of an uncataloged object. If it is affirmative, the narrow telescope system will adapt to a new attitude to track the object from predicted trajectory and gather information for future use. Constructing and validating of this monitoring system deployed by the research group are described in this paper

Maximum allowable hp rating of 3-phase induction motor fed through a stand-alone constant V/f controlled DFIG via RSC

    Get PDF
This paper presents a scheme to start three-phase induction motors (IMs) directly connected to terminals of constant V/f controlled doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) through the rotor side converter (RSC). The proposed control is achieved by controlling the output voltage and frequency of stand-alone DFIG via controlling an injected voltage into the rotor circuit through the RSC. The control scheme provides a search for maximum rating of the three-phase IM which can be supplied from a DFIG. The search technique is based on using a simplified mathematical model to find the capability limits of the RSC and DFIG. It is found that these parameters depend on the stator frequency and rotor slip. Therefore, an investigation is performed to find the lowest frequency and the corresponding allowable maximum rating for the IM to be safely started. A typical example is provided in the paper for a 15 kW DFIG. It is shown that this generator could supply a three-phase IM with a maximum rating of 1-hp if it operated at nominal outputs, voltage and frequency, during start-up period. While, using the proposed technique, the same generator could start-up a three-phase IM with maximum power rating of 7.25 hp
