Get PDFThe novel of Memang Jodoh is one of Marah Rusli’s masterpieces. It describes about the tight customs and traditions of Padang in wedlock and marriage, also there are some rules becoming the tradition that must be obeyed by society. These customs and traditions are not quit of society social life. Padang society has customs and traditions for marriage and matrilineal lineage. This article aims to describe social aspect in Novel of Memang Jodoh by Marah Rusli. Based on the aim of it, the method of qualitative is used. As for the approach of aspect social are applied. The theory of sociology is conducted in social aspect including structure social, social processes, social change, and social problem. The result of this novel analysis of Memang Jodoh is society social structure of Padang which is very closely with customs and traditions caused the society conflict. Key words: customs and traditions for marriage and matrilineal lineage, social aspect ABSTRAK Novel Memang Jodoh adalah salah satu karya Marah Rusli. Novel ini menceritakan tentang adat- istiadat Padang yang sangat ketat dalam hal perjodohan dan perkawinan, serta banyak aturan yang sudah menjadi tradisi dan harus dipatuhi oleh masyarakatnya. Adat-istiadat tidak terlepas dari kehidupan sosial masyarakat. Masyarakat Padang mempunyai adat-istiadat dalam hal perkawinan dan garis keturunan yang matrilineal. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan aspek sosial yang terdapat dalam novel Memang Jodoh karya Marah Rusli. Berdasarkan tujuan tersebut, metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Adapun pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan aspek sosial. Aspek sosial yang digunakan adalah teori sosiologi yang mencakup struktur sosial, proses sosial, perubahan sosial dan masalah sosial. Hasil analisis novel Memang Jodoh berupa struktur sosial masyarakat Padang yang sangat erat dengan adat-istiadat menimbulkan pertentangan antarmasyarakat. Get PDFThis article discusses cosmopolitanism as sociological perspective on American life in the era of 1980- 1990s through Rae Lawrence’s Jacqueline Sussan’s Shadow of the Dolls. This article has two questions asked as the main problems which are also be the main goals in doing the research. The first question asks about the characters’ life styles. The second question is about American perspective on cosmopolitanism in certain era based on the novel. This research uses sociology perspective in understanding the form of cosmopolitanism from the characters’ life styles based on Swingewoods’ theory. This research is a qualitative research and a documentary method is used to collect the data, as well as the inductive method which is used to analyze the subject matters. After doing the research, we found that the characters in the novel are represented as cosmopolitan who have their own choices in life. Get PDFThis paper seeks to outline the representation of woman character specifically in using her drive in respondingto androcentrism in Mulan in Disney Beloved Tales. It is one of short stories written by Jane Brierly, RobynBryant and Stephanie Werner and published in 2001 in Canada. The androcentrism undergone by woman maincharacter will be discussed. The great upward drive will be discussed and related to the woman maincharacter's response to androcentrisms. This will be placed in the context of woman representation in literaryworks. The approaches used in this discussion are feminist and psychological approach. Feminist approach isused to know the woman character's position in the story and how she is represented. Psychological approach isused to know the psychological state and the response of the main character toward the androcentrisms in thestory . The method of the study used in this thesis is deductive method from the general discussion to the specificdiscussion. The data are collected through library and cyber research. The result of the research shows thatMulan, the main woman character experiences three kinds of androcentrisms namely woman for reproduction,ethical concept and warfare. She uses her great upward drive in responding the three androcentrisms. Get PDFArtikel ini membahas konflik pertambangan pasir besi yang terjadi di Kabupaten Lumajang denganmenggunakan perspektif politik lingkungan. Permasalahan yang dikaji dalam tulisan ini adalah sebab-sebab danproses terjadinya konflik, pihak-pihak yang terlibat dalam konflik dan argumentasi masing-masing, serta dampakyang ditimbulkan dari kegiatan pertambangan pasir besi. Bahan-bahan yang menjadi dasar untuk melakukanpembahasan dalam artikel ini berupa berita-berita surat kabar, hasil wawancara dengan pelaku dan saksi sejarah,dan observasi lapangan. Konflik yang muncul dalam kaitan dengan kegiatan pertambangan di Desa Wotgalihmelibatkan dua kelompok utama, yakni pihak pro dan pihak kontra tambang. Konflik mempunyai asal-muasaldari rencana kembalinya kegiatan penambangan pasir besi oleh PT ANTAM yang mendapatkan ijin daripemerintah. Pihak kontra tambang mendasarkan penolakannya pada keyakinan akan terbatasnya manfaatekonomis dan besarnya resiko kerusakan lingkungan dan bencana. Kelompok ini memandang kebijakanpemerintah mengeluarkan izin penambangan pasir besi sebagai tidak bijak dan mengabaikan kepentingan rakyat.Pihak pro tambang meyakini kegiatan tambang akan besar manfaat ekonominya bagi masyarakat dan pemerintahdaerah. Artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa pertambangan mengandung kekuatan disintegratif bagi masyarakat dandestruktif bagi lingkungan.Kata Kunci: Pertambangan, Lingkungan, Konflik, Lumajan

Get PDFTulisan ini membahas konflik antara petani garam dengan PT Garam yang terjadi di Kecamatan Gapura diKabupaten Sumenep, Madura. Metode yang dipakai di sini adalah metode sejarah, yang meliputi empat tahaputama, yakni heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Tulisan ini menggunakan teori konflik yangdicetuskan oleh Karl Marx yaitu tentang kelas-kelas sosial, dimana dalam masyarakat terdapat dua kelas yaitukelas pemilik modal (borjuis) dan kelas pekerja miskin (proletar). Menurut Lewis A Coser, konflik dibagimenjadi dua, yaitu konflik realitas yang berasal dari rasa kekecewaan terhadap tuntutan-tuntutan dan merasapara pertisipan yang mendapat keuntungan, kedua konflik non realitas bukan berasal dari tujuan-tujuan sainganyang antagonis, tetapi dari kebutuhan untuk meredakan ketegangan. Para petani garam merasa kecewa kepadapemerintah atau dalam hal ini PT Garam, yang telah mengambil lahan garam yang dianggap warisan dari leluhurmereka. Oleh karena itu, mereka melancarkan aksi protes atas pengambilan hak tersebut. ENGLISH LOANWORDS IN USING COMMUNITIES IN JAMBESARI VILLAGE, GIRI DISTRICT, BANYUWANGI
Get PDFIn this paper, we present an analysis of English loanwords that are spoken by the people of Jambesari villagethat are regarded as their own language. The loanwords also experience some deviations. The term 'loanword'can be defined as a word adopted from another language with little or no modification. As asserted by Methamand Hudson (1969:482) that loanwords are words which have been taken over by one language from anotherand they represent only one phenomenon in the wider context of language contact. This study aims to know theway people got the English loanwords, to know where people use the English loanwords, and to know thechanges of the English loanwords. It can be analyzed by using the concept of language contact and languagechange. The analysis is conducted by using descriptive method. The result shows that people got the Englishloanwords from other people. They also use the English loanwords everywhere according to the context ofsituation. Then, the alterations occur in the kind of pronunciation, spelling, word class, and meaning.Keywords: Loanword, language contact, language change
CONSTRUING IDEATIONAL MEANING IN ELECTRONICS DEVICESADVERTISEMENTS IN JAWA POS: A SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL LINGUISTICMULTIMODAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS
Get PDFThis research deals with multimodal discourse analysis. The data were collected from printed advertisements ofJawa Pos newspaper. Generic Structure Potential of printed advertisement (GSP) proposed by Cheong (2004)and Halliday's (1994) transitivity were applied. Cheong's framework is applied to reveal the elements of visualand linguistic elements, meanwhile Halliday's transitivity is used to know the processes. Thereby, this researchdiscovers the relationship between image and text in one context. The result shows that visual elements in theprinted advertisements are Lead, Emblem, and Display. Lead consists of Locus of Attention (LoA) andComplements to the Locus of Attention (Comp. LoA). Meanwhile, the linguistic elements are Announcement,Emblem, Enhancer, Tag, and Call-and-Visit Information. Finally, it is found that there is interconnectednessbetween the visual and linguistic elements in the printed advertisement. PERILAKU BERBAHASA LATAH WARGA DESA JATIGONO KECAMATAN KUNIR KABUPATEN LUMAJANG SEBUAH KAJIAN PSIKOLINGUISTIK

Artikel ini mendeskripsikan bentuk lingualbahasa latah pada warga Desa Jatigono Kecamatan Kunir Kabupaten Lumajang dan faktor penyebab wargaberperilaku latah. Data kualitatif berupa kata dan kalimat pada perilaku latah yang ada di Desa Jatigono,Kecamatan Kunir, Kabupaten Lumajang. Hasil penelitian ini terdapat deskripsi bentuk-bentuk lingual perilakulatah berupa kata dan kalimat, meliputi: (1) perilaku latah Koprolalia, (2) perilaku latah Ekolalia, (3) perilakulatah Auto Ekolalia,dan (4) perilaku latah Automatic Obidience. Hasil penelitian ini juga terdapat beberapafaktor penyebab perilaku latah, meliputi: (1) faktor lingkungan (imitasi, sugesti, identifikasi, dan sugesti), dan(2) faktor mimpi.Kata Kunci: bahasa latah, jenis latah, psikolinguistik, faktor lingkungan, faktor mimpi
