Relationships between Innovations and Productivity in the Services in the Slovak Economy

    Get PDF
A key factor of increasing performances of service enterprises and in effect, that of the entire economy is the introduction of innovations. However, it is the final effect of the process that is important, rather than the type of innovation introduced by an enterprise. The aim of the paper is to verify the validity of the relationship between the innovation activity of service enterprises in Slovak Republic and their economic performance. Results of analysis have not demonstrated unanimously a positive relationship between innovations and the productivity of business service. The reason for that is in the so far low innovation performance of services as well as in the low time-related homogeneity of the implementation and the effect of innovations

Impacto de los Intermediarios en los Sistemas de Innovación

    Get PDF

The research team is currently working on defining a suitable path towards the design and implementation of a Living Lab for developing, testing and demonstrating innovations in sustainable transport operations. There are several examples that focus on transport and mobility, either addressing individual or freight transport. The combination of both topics is seen as a unique chance to find new ways for a sustainable transport system and mobility behavior. The region of Upper Austria is used as a research case in order to demonstrate results and findings of an applied research project, called “Mobility Lab Upper Austria.

This study compared university affiliated and non-university affiliated business incubators in the United States and Brazil in order to assess the impacts of country context and affiliation on incubator funding sources, direct financial assistance to client firms and internal versus external service mix through use of quantitative and qualitative data. Affiliations with external entities can provide life giving resources; however, it may also transfer external shocks to the new venture calling for buffers. Results indicated that incubators in the United States have a higher number of funding sources, are more likely to provide direct financial support, and offer more external services relative to Brazilian incubators; whereas Brazilian incubators are more inclined to connect incubates to external financial resources but provide services in-house. The study results suggested that incubators in both countries use “bridges” and “buffers” to ameliorate resource deficits driven by environmental exigencies

Digital Technologies for Social Innovation: An Empirical Recognition on the New Enablers

    Get PDF
Even though scholars’ attention has been placed on Social Innovation (SI), little evidence has been provided with regards to which tools are actually used to address social needs and foster Social Innovation initiatives. The purpose of the article is twofold. Firstly, the article offers empirical recognition to SI by investigating, on a large-scale, social and innovative activities conducted by start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the world between 2001 and 2014. Secondly, the article intends to capture SI core businesses and underlying complementarities between products, markets, and technologies and show in which way digital media and IT are essentially tracing innovation trajectories over a multitude of industries, leading the current industrial patterns of SI, and continually fostering its cross-industry nature

Mechanisms and Functions within a National Innovation System

    Get PDF
In modern society, the competitive success of countries is increasingly dependent on the effective management of their national innovation system (NIS). Therefore, understanding the mechanisms behind NISs has become essential. After reviewing the current understanding of the NIS concept and the existing measurement models, this study proposes to consider the NIS as an intangible (underlying) asset of a specific kind and identifies its seven fundamental components, which are extracted with a new measurement model, the Global Innovation Index (GII). This study employs the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) techniques to analyze the relationships among the components of an NIS. Our results support the existence of a causal link between the constituents of an NIS and provide several perspectives regarding NIS management opportunities. In particular, we find that the efficient management of institutional capital is a key determinant of innovation success for non-high-income countries

Academic institutions of higher education, and especially Jesuit institutions, face the challenge of educating students who often face unique financial challenges. These challenges can have an impact on access to quality education and experience. Given our globalized environment, among these challenges is the opportunity for students to participate in a study-abroad experience while at the university. Today, through the use of technology it is possible for institutions of higher education to offer these collaborative learning experiences to those students who may not be able to travel. This paper will detail a pedagogical approach which emphasizes using collaborative online international engagement
