Globalization and Libraries: The Need for Paradigm Shift in Nigerian Library and Information Environment
Effectiveness of a library in the present digital age depends largely upon the application of information and communication technology, and integration in to global information infrastructure. This paper attempts to explore the impact of globalization on library and information services and information environment globally. It also analyzes the Nigerian libraries in the era of globalization and concludes by recommending steps towards launching Nigerian information environment in the global system
OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING IN J& K STATE AN ASSESSMENT
The present study provides an overview of OA publishing in the state of Jammu and Kashmir (India). The study reveals that OA publishing is gaining popularity in the state with substantial amount of research publications already available through online OA journals
SEARCH ENGINE COVERAGE OF OPEN ACCESS CORPUS IN THE FIELD OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
The paper presents the results of an exploratory study conducted to find percentage of OAI-PMH compliant Metadata harvested by two search engines (Google and Scirus) using two hundred and ten articles selected from DOAJ corpus. The first filly results were analysed to gauge the presence of DOAJ articles in the field of Biotechnology with their rank and duplication among the retrieved set of results. The results reveal that Google harvest maximum articles (i.e. 76.67%) compared to Scirus while Scirus rank all the retrieved articles among the .first ten results when Google jail by 6%

RETRIEVAL EFFICIENCY OF 'INTUTE': ESTIMATION OF BIOTECHNOLOGY RESOURCES
The study compares nine constituent gateways of Intute: Health and Life Sciences by submitting select Biotechnology related terms. The results reveal that "Bioethicsweb" contain largest number of resources on'cloning' and "Vetgate— retrieves largest number of resources for 'Antibiotics' while great strength of resources on select term 'Gene' is found in "Bioresearch'' gateway. However, the intute' provides a platform to retrieve results from all the nine gateways in a single interface. It is observed that the 'Intute' supports Boolean, Truncation and Phrase searching. The results further reveal that significant resources are not retrieved while searching on resource type basis.KEYWORDS : Biotechnology; Subject gateways; Quality resource

The Development and Challenges of Virtual Library Services in Nigerian Colleges of Education
Purpose: Information handling has become so dynamic today that the development of virtual libraries seems to be the only way out for our academic institutions worldwide. Unfortunately virtual libraries are almost non-existent in many academic institutions. The paper focuses on the conceptualization of the opportunities, challenges, problems and threats faced in the development of virtual libraries with particular reference to the Nigerian Colleges of Education.Methodology/Approach: The existing system of virtual libraries in Nigeria has been evaluated and has been discussed from different dimensions.
