The effect of demographic variables on the university’s proactive personality and uncertainty avoidance
Abstract. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the demographic variables of the students studying in Kocaeli Vocational School of Business Administration program and their tendency to avoid uncertainty. In this study, the cultural dimensions scale of Hofstede used by Altay (2004) was used to measure the tendency to avoid uncertainty. In this study, the Proactive personality scale of Bateman and Crant used by Akgündüz et al., (2017) was used to measure the tendency to proactive personality. In addition, questions were asked about the demographic variables (gender, mother is or not life, the status of the parents, the income level, the educational status of the parents, number of siblings and success status). The sampling method was used easily in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 154 students. The data were analyzed by SPSS program. The significance level was accepted as 0.05. It was seen that demographic variables of university students had no effect on proactive personality and avoidance of uncertainty. Keywords. What may constitute an equal Society? Addressing externalities of globalization
Abstract. This paper is a short review of Mamoon (2007) analysis on inequality where it is contrasted with growth. The economic processes or institutional dynamics that are good for growth may not be a priority if inequalities are the prime consideration. For example rule of law and control for corruption are the most salient factors to mitigate inequality but though they are also good for growth, it is good regulation that takes the lead in growth promotion. China has been benefitting from good market regulation - a pro capitalist economic tool kit while suffering from rising inequality that may be due to less emphasis on control for corruption. The political economy of fiscal deficits in the UK
Abstract. The focus of this study is on aspects of public debt and austerity policy in the UK. It attempts to provide an evaluation of fiscal policy under neoliberalism and to consider the relationship between this policy and the macroeconomic performance of the UK economy. There also seems to be ambiguities among the policy makers about austerity. Therefore, it seems important to examine the issue of government imposed austerity policies and fiscal deficits. There is need to borrow to cover the deficits as there is no inflationary pressure in the UK. Most democratic solutions against any inflationary pressures are to reduce money in circulation through higher taxes. Further I argue that a number of counter measures could possibly be taken such as placing a requirement on financial institutions such as pension funds to place some minimum proportion of their asset portfolio into government stock. Pierre-AndréChiappori. Matching with Transfers: The Economics of Love and Marriage
Family economics is the sub-discipline in labor economics that applies household decision-making processes, household production, and fertility decisionsto understanding the family. Gary Becker’s 1981 seminal Treatise on the Family renewed interest in the study of the economics of the household, and matching has become a foundational topic in family formation. Since Becker’s renewed interest revitalized fertility studies and the New Home Economics, various scholars have extended this work into matching and household formation, and few have advanced the research as much as Pierre-André Chiappori.Chiappori has now summarized his and other scholars’ work into his book Matching with Transfers: The Economics of Love and Marriage(2017)
Lanny Ebenstein, Chicagonomics: The Evolution of Chicago Free Market Economics
Abstract. Few 20th century economics departments influenced the discipline as much as the University of Chicago. Among the oldest economics departments, its most distinguished characteristics are its high profile emphasis on market solutions, the colorful figures it attracted and developed, and those it retained. None have attracted the prolific and novel research that went on to win The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.Keywords. Influence of human resources development on green accounting performance
Abstract. The investors in the contemporary world consider environmental responsibility as one of the most vital elements. In this case; green accounting refers to the act of identifying, tracking, analyzing, and reporting the cost information and materials associated with an organization’s environmental elements. It is an initiative that maintains the GA quality through its mandate of recruiting, compensating, developing, training, and advancing the company’s human capital. Green accounting plays a primary role in tackling the underlying social and environmental challenges. Based on this consideration, the organizations often make investment decisions by comparing social and private costs with the social and private benefits. This conceptual paper discusses the influences of HRD on GA and offer implications for theory and practices. Keywords. Human resources development, Green accounting, Social responsibility.JEL. The case for a market for livers
Abstract. Liver transplantation is a necessary procedure to save the lives of thousands of people suffering from a multitude of diseases. Unfortunately, there are currently 14,301 individuals in the United States in dire need of a liver currently on the wait list, with more people added each year than removed as a result of successful transplantation. This is largely due to the National Organ Transplant Act of 1984’s outlawing the compensation of donors for their organs, which, in concurrence with basic economic theory, has resulted in a vast supply shortage. This paper aims to assess the state of the organ transplantation system in the United States and make the case that compensation for organ donors will not only remedy the vast shortage, but would prove to be a more economical alternative than the status quo. Keywords. Market for livers, National organ transplant.JEL. I11, I18
The origins of the economics of Innovation
Abstract. This study suggests that the origins of the economics of technical change go back to many years before Schumpeter’s contributions. The Scottish philosopher John Rae with his book Statement of Some New Principles on the Subject of Political Economy, issued in 1834, put forward the basis of the Economics of innovation individuating the nature, causes of technological innovations (e.g., steam engine) and effects of technological progress on economic growth of nations. Rae also discusses the evolution and role of vital technologies for the wealth and employment in Europe and North America. Overall, then, Rae’s work is basic for the origin of the Economics of innovation, for defining the domain of this discipline and for explaining the effects of vital technologies in society. However, the conclusions of this study are tentative. There is need for much more detailed research into this research topic. Keywords.
