An assessment of the economic cost of smoking in Ireland
The Department of Health has published a report entitled - An assessment of the economic cost of smoking in Ireland. The study was carried out for the Department of Health by ICF International. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the evidence base of tobacco consumption and its effects in Ireland, to help support the implementation of the recommendations made in The Tobacco Free Ireland report (2013)

Minister Varadkar was joined by the Chief Nursing Officer Dr Siobhan Oâ?THalloran and nursing union leaders to launch the first national Framework for safe nurse staffing and skill mix in general and specialist medical and surgical care settings in acute hospitals. This is the first policy paper published by the Office of the Chief Nursing Officer.  The Framework sets out an evidence based approach aimed at stabilising the nursing resource, delivering positive benefits for patients, and making hospitals a healthier and more attractive work environment for staff. The next step in this work, is to pilot test the Framework. This â,¬2 million pilot project will  be carried out in three hospitals ranging in size from small-scale to large-scale and will test the capability of the Framework components to deliver on their intended outcomes.

Eating disorder services - Phase 1 study - Potential for a specialist unit in Northern Ireland
This preliminary report on the potential for a specialist eating disorders unit in Northern Ireland examines the outline case, and recommends that more in-depth study and evidence-gathering is required. The full report is scheduled to be published by the end of 2016
HSC SCQD02-10 - Rapid Response Report: Preventing Harm to Children from Parents with Mental Health Needs
Mental health service users can be good parents, but new research from the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide (NCISH) and findings from investigations into the deaths of children have highlighted a rare but important risk to children when their parent or carer has delusional beliefs involving their children, or has a suicide plan involving their children. The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) are advising that staff in adult mental health services caring for a parent must always consider the child’s needs and the potential for physical and psychological harm as part of multiagency risk assessment processes.Â
