Proyecto piloto DACU (Descansos Activos en Clases Universitarias): movimiento en el aula para mejorar los aprendizajes

    No full text

    No full text
Objective. This study aimed to determine which therapeutic exercise-based intervention is most effective in improving cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy. Methods. The authors conducted a systematic review with network meta-analysis in MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. The authors employed the Physiotherapy Evidence Database and the Revised Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool for Randomized Trials to assess the methodological quality and risk of bias, respectively. Results. A total of 27 studies were included. Data were pooled using a random-effects model. Adding aerobic training (moderate to high intensity), with or without resistance training, to usual care versus usual care was statistically significant, with a small beneficial effect (aerobic training: standardized mean difference = 0.46; 95% CI = 0.17 to 0.75; aerobic and resistance training: standardized mean difference = 0.26; 95% CI = 0.00 to 0.52) for peak oxygen consumption at the postintervention assessment. Conclusion. Therapeutic exercise-based interventions to improve short term cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy should include moderate- to high-intensity aerobic exercise, with or without resistance training. Impact. It is important to improve cardiorespiratory fitness in the oncological population due to its relationship with mortality. The results showed the benefit of exercise to improve cardiorespiratory fitness in the oncology population receiving chemotherapy treatment.Sin financiación3.8 Q1 JCR 20221.005 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE

Exploring the Relationship between Adherence to Therapy, Treatment Acceptability, and Clinical Outcomes in Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Results from the COMPAS Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

    No full text
Introduction: Cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can be effective in treating adults with ADHD, and patients generally consider these interventions useful. While adherence, as measured by attendance at sessions, is mostly sufficient, adherence to therapy skills has not been assessed. Furthermore, the relationship between patient evaluation of therapy effectiveness, treatment adherence, and clinical outcomes is understudied. Objective: This study aimed to examine treatment acceptability and adherence in relation to treatment outcomes in a large randomized controlled trial comparing a DBT-based intervention with a nonspecific active comparison, combined with methylphenidate or placebo. Method: A total of 433 adult patients with ADHD were randomized. Participants reported how effective they found the therapy, and adherence was measured by attendance at therapy sessions and by self-reports. Descriptive, between-groups, and linear mixed model analyses were conducted. Results: Participants rated psychotherapy as moderately effective, attended 78.40-94.37% of sessions, and used skills regularly. The best-accepted skills were sports and mindfulness. Groups receiving placebo and/or nonspecific clinical management rated their health condition and the medication effectiveness significantly worse than the psychotherapy and methylphenidate groups. Improvements in clinical outcomes were significantly associated with treatment acceptability. Subjective (self-reported) adherence to psychotherapy was significantly associated with improvements in ADHD symptoms, clinical global efficacy and response to treatment. Discussion: These results further support the acceptability of DBT for adult ADHD and suggest the need to address adherence to treatment to maximize clinical improvements. Results may be limited by the retrospective assessment of treatment acceptability and adherence using an ad hoc instrument.German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (01GV0605, 01GV0606)22.3 Q1 JCR 20224.738 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE

Effects of Minimalist vs. Traditional Running Shoes on Abdominal Lumbopelvic Muscle Activity in Women Running at Different Speeds: A Randomized Cross-Over Clinical Trial

    No full text
This study aimed to investigate if the characteristics of different running shoes could influence intra-abdominal pressure during running. A single-centre, randomized, prospective cross-over clinical trial was performed measuring activity patterns of internal oblique (IO), lumbar erector (LE), and gluteus maximus (GM) muscles in healthy women when running with minimalist shoes (MS). Participants were randomly allocated into two-sequence (MS/TS or TS/MS) treadmill running at six, nine, and eleven km/h. The surface electromyographic activity of IO, LE, and GM muscles were recorded while running. A repeated measures ANOVA explored the interaction effects of three-muscle x three speeds x two shoes. Significance was set at p ≤ 0.05. Fifty-one healthy nulliparous women (mean age: 26.55 ± 5.11 years; body mass index: 21.29 ± 2.07 Kg/m2) were included. Our findings revealed lower activations of the LE compared to the internal oblique IO and GM, irrespective of running speed and footwear used. Electromyographic activation significantly increased with higher running speeds (p < 0.001) for all muscles, regardless of the type of footwear. Although electromyographic records with MS consistently showed higher values than those with TS, the differences were not statistically significant for all muscles at all speeds. Our results indicate that electromyographic activation patterns vary according to the muscle group, exhibiting higher values with increased running speed.

Social networks have become a form of communication with the rest of society, both close friends or co-workers and with people you don't know, creating content and sharing it publicly. The Nexus of Training Duration Body Image Nutritional Practices and Mental Health: Insights from a Strength Training Cohort

    No full text
This study investigated the intricate relationship between strength training and its effects on body image, psychological health, and nutritional habits. By examining 605 participants, divided into two groups based on training frequency, the research aimed to discern how varying intensities of training influenced different wellness facets. The investigation employed a comprehensive survey, gathering demographic data, training specifics, dietary patterns, and psychological characteristics, utilizing statistical tools for analysis. Results unveiled significant differences in dietary habits and psychological profiles between groups with higher and lower training frequencies. The group with more frequent training displayed less favourable health outcomes and suboptimal dietary habits, challenging the prevailing notion that increased training frequency leads to better health. The study emphasized the necessity of a balanced approach to physical training, highlighting the need for personalized strategies that encompass both physical and mental health considerations. The findings exposed the complexities of training regimens and their broader implications on individual health, suggesting that enhanced training frequency alone does not assure improved health outcomes. This research significantly contributed to the domain by providing insights into how the frequency of strength training could differentially affect health and well-being, offering valuable guidelines for fitness professionals and healthcare providers.Sin financiación2.600 Q2 JCR 20220.597 Q2 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE

Re-exploring the relationships of humor styles with dark triad and self-esteem using structural equation modelling

    No full text
Previous relationships between Dark Triad and Humor styles are theoretically difficult to interpret since Dark Triad traits present general and specific sources of variance. In the present study, we used structural equation modelling techniques to allow us to separate the two sources and detect which source of variance of Dark Triad plays the main role in the relationship observed with Humor styles. Similarly, it was tested if relationships among measures of Self-esteem and Humor styles are replicated at structural level. Moreover, the vast majority of previous studies have been conducted with university samples, which represents a limitation. Hence, a series of bi-factor models to test the relationship between Dark Triad and Humor styles and structural models for Self-esteem and Humor styles were fitted on a community sample of 987 Spanish people. Results suggest that the common variance of the Dark Triad traits was mainly responsible for the reported relationships with Humor styles. It is noteworthy that relations reported for Aggressive and Self-defeating humor styles were higher than those observed in previous studies. Similarly, a higher correlation between Self-esteem and Self-defeating was observed at the structural level. Futures studies are suggested to better establish the psychological reasons behind these relationships.Sin financiación4.3 Q1 JCR 20221.463 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE

The Tour de France, also possible for mortals? A comparison of a recreational and a World Tour cyclist

    No full text
Cycling Grand Tours are arguably the epitome of strenuous endurance exercise, and they have been reported to represent the ceiling of sustained energy expenditure for humans. It remains unknown, however, if an average recreational athlete could endure such an event. Through the analysis of power output (PO), we compared data from the 2023 Tour de France (21 stages, total distance = 3,405 km, elevation gain = 51,815 m) in a recreational (male, age = 58 yr; height = 191 cm; body mass = 96.1 kg; estimated maximum oxygen uptake = 45.4 mLkg(-1)min(-1)) and a sex-matched professional (World-Tour) cyclist (28 yr; 180 cm; 67.0 kg; 80.5 mLkg(-1)min(-1)). The recreational and professional cyclist completed the event in 191 and 87 h, respectively (average PO of 1.50 and 3.45 Wkg(-1)), with the latter spending a greater proportion of time in high-intensity zones. The recreational cyclist showed an estimated total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) of 35.9 MJ [or 8,580 kcal, or similar to 4.3x his daily basal metabolic rate (BMR)], whereas lower absolute values were estimated for the professional cyclist (29.7 MJ, 7,098 kcal, similar to 3.8x his BMR). Despite such high TDEE values, both individuals lost minimal body mass during the event (0-2 kg). The present report therefore suggests that, partly due to differences in exercise intensity and duration, not only professional cyclists but also recreational athletes can reach currently known ceilings of TDEE for humans. NEW & NOTEWORTHY This case report indicates that a recreationally trained 58-year-old man can reach similar or even higher values of energy expenditure (similar to 4 times their basal metabolic rate) than professional cyclists, who are likely near the ceiling of sustained energy expenditure for humans. This was possible owing to a total longer exercise time coupled with a lower absolute and relative intensity in the recreational athlete.Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and Fondos Feder3.3 Q2 JCR 20221.042 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDRUE
