Impossible is nothing even in times of COVID-19. Effective strategy lessons from the Real Madrid F.C.
The Real Madrid F.C. was one of the few major European football teams that avoided financial losses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the team improved its performance on social media and in terms of web traffic achieving the number one spot for both indicators. This exploratory study sets out to shed light on the strategies used by the club. The methodology uses a content analysis of professional and academic journals, official websites, surveys and managerial reports as well as in-depth interviews with academics, team managers, and fans. Findings reveal that nurturing existing relationships with sponsors and building new sponsorship agreements were key factors to survive in times of crisis. Our research also illustrates the importance of enabling supporters to build consumer-brand relationships and be active in the creation of their own brand experience. Lastly, the study shows that CSR initiatives strengthened the relationship between the club and its followers.Sin financiación1.4 JCR 2022*0.488 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2021UE

Sociodemographic and clinical predictors of adherence to antidepressants in depressive disorders: a systematic review with a meta-analysis
Introduction: Current evidence reveals concerning rates of non-adherence to antidepressant treatment, possibly influenced by various relevant determinants such as sociodemographic factors or those related to the health system and their professionals. The aim of this paper is to review the scientific evidence on sociodemographic and clinical predictors of adherence to pharmacological treatment in patients diagnosed with a depressive disorder.
Methods: a systematic review (SR) was conducted. The search for a previous SR was updated and de novo searches were performed in Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science (WoS) and PsycInfo (last 10 years). The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane tool for non-randomized studies—of Exposure (ROBINS-E). Meta-analyses were conducted.
Results: Thirty-nine studies (n = 2,778,313) were included, 24 of them in the meta-analyses. In the initiation phase, no association of adherence was found with any of the predictors studied. In the implementation and discontinuation phases, middle-aged and older patients had better adherence rates and lower discontinuation rates than younger ones. White patients adhered to treatment better than African-American patients.
Discussion: Age and ethnicity are presented as the predictive factors of pharmacological adherence. However, more research is needed in this field to obtain more conclusive results on other possible factors. The Canary Islands Health Research Institute Foundation (FIISC) (PIFIISC20_05)5.6 Q1 JCR 20221.064 Q1 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE
Background: Some health care providers try to opt out for certain legalized treatments. There is a peculiarity in these situations: when it came to a judgment, women’s rights were at stake on both sides. Dismissed women (freedom of conscience) and women patients (health care rights). Purpose: To describe the documented situations where discriminated women could also object on scientifically reasonable doubts, precisely on woman’s protection. Method: An online search has been performed to identify: firstly, recorded cases of women objectors in health care issues, secondly, updated existing scientific researches questioning ethically controversial practices. Finally, it has been identified domestic and international rules and deontological statements. Result: In places with legalized ethically controversial practices, women objectors have been forced to face dismissal procedures, judicial actions and further readmission in recognition of their freedom of conscience related to the respect of basic health care principles. Conclusion: Documented cases of dismissed women in health care services on grounds of conscience demonstrate that they are the main objectors claiming for respect at Courts. A more gender-oriented approach could facilitate the protection of these health care providers.
Cervical impairments in subjects with migraine or tension type headache: an observational study
Objective: The aim of this investigation was to compare the thickness of the deep local muscles in the neck region, as well as local and widespread sensitivity and functionality, between individuals with migraine, Tension-Type Headache (TTH), and healthy controls. To date, we know that the onset of migraine and TTH share similar pathophysiological pathways. Nevertheless, there may be some anatomical and functional differences which would explain why clinicians may obtain variable results when treating both pathological entities with similar or equal approaches.
Methods: An observational study was conducted in accordance with STROBE guidelines. The flexor longus colli and multifidus, two neck-stabilizing muscles, were measured using B-mode ultrasound imaging. The upper trapezius, masseter, temporalis, tibialis anterior, and median nerve all underwent bilateral pressure-pain threshold (PPT) assessments.Sin financiación3.4 Q2 JCR 20220.978 Q2 SJR 2022No data IDRUE
Prefrontal activity during Iowa gambling task in young adult women
This study aims to investigate the relationships between personality traits of impulsivity, using the UPPS-P Impulsive Behaviour Scales shortened version, and prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity during the IOWA Gambling Task (IGT) in young adult women. The study included a sample of 83 young, healthy females (19.8 ± 1.4 years), who voluntarily took part in the study. Repeated measures analysis during the IGT revealed a significant increase in HbO (all p .31) and a decrease in Hbr (all p .08) in all prefrontal quadrants. This increase in oxygenation occurs primarily during the choice period under ambiguity (r =.23; p =.039). Additionally, there was a significant linear decrease in selecting the decks associated with a high frequency of losses (p <.001), while the favorable deck with low losses showed a linear increase (F = 12.96; p <.001). Notably, discrepancies were found between UPPS-P and IGT impulsivity ratings. The Lack of Perseverance and Lack of Premeditation scales from the UPPS-P were identified as significant predictors of HbO levels, mainly in the two quadrants of the left hemisphere's, lateral (adjusted R2 =.23; p <.001; f2 =.34) and rostral (adjusted R2 =.13; p <.002; f2 =.17). These findings suggest that young adult women predominantly adopt a punishment-avoidance strategy during IGT, exhibiting increased activation in the left hemisphere, especially during the task's initial phase characterized by ambiguity.Sin financiación2.7 Q2 JCR 20220.881 Q2 SJR 2022No data IDR 2022UE
Impact of Sex and Diabetes in Patients with Heart Failure
Purpose of review: Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome with a growing global health burden. This review explores the intersection of HF, diabetes mellitus, and sex, highlighting epidemiological patterns, pathophysiological mechanisms, and treatment implications.
Recent findings: Despite similar HF prevalence in men and women, diabetes mellitus (DM) appears to exert a more pronounced impact on HF outcomes in women. Pathophysiological differences involve cardiovascular risk factors, severe left ventricular dysfunction, and coronary artery disease, as well as hormonal influences and inflammatory markers. Diabetic cardiomyopathy introduces a sex-specific challenge, with women experiencing common adverse outcomes related to increased fibrosis and myocardial remodeling. Treatment strategies, particularly sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors, exhibit cardiovascular benefits, but their response may differ in women. The link between HF and DM is bidirectional, with diabetes significantly increasing the risk of HF, and vice versa. Additionally, the impact of diabetes on mortality appears more pronounced in women than in men, leading to a modification of the traditional gender gap observed in HF outcomes. A personalized approach is crucial, and further research to improve outcomes in the complex interplay of HF, diabetes, and sex is needed.Sin financiación3.5 * JCR 20220.976 Q1 SJR 2023No data IDR 2022UE
