Uplink resource shared interference mitigation scheme for in-band D2D underlay 5G networks
The benefits of Device-to-Device (D2D) communication often include increased overall system throughput, reduced latency, and increased spectrum efficiency. These advantages usually come from improved spatial reuse of time and frequency resources and the last but not least, the proximity of users engaged into D2D communication. Radio Resource allocation is a critical issue in D2D model and if not dealt with carefully, it can lead to significant interference to both pure cellular and D2D users, thereby proving detrimental to the desired outcomes. This paper presents novel Uplink Resource Shared Interference Mitigation Scheme called URSIMS. URSIMS adopts guard zones, further it implements radio resource allocation algorithm (RRAA) and distance dependent dynamic power control algorithm (DDDPA) with the goal to mitigate interference and achieve increased overall system throughput and spectral efficiency. URSIMS has been compared with other similar state of the art both for static and user mobility based scenarios; it is found that URSIMS responded adequately well and outperformed Random and Greedy schemes in terms of salient performance indicators including overall system throughput, pure cellular user throughput, spectral efficiency and D2D pair throughout. URSIMS did provide sustained higher system throughput, which significantly improved further in case of increased user mobility while compared to Random and Greedy schemes respectively.<br/
Medicines management activity of advanced practice dietitians and therapeutic radiographers
<jats:sec><jats:title>Background:</jats:title><jats:p> Recent changes have allowed advanced level UK dietitians and therapeutic radiographers to prescribe medicines. To date, there has been no comprehensive review of this evidence. </jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Aim:</jats:title><jats:p> To undertake a rapid review of the role advanced practice dietitians and therapeutic radiographers have in relation to medicines management. </jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Method:</jats:title><jats:p> Searches of MEDLINE, CINAHL and economic databases were conducted for literature published from 1968–November 2023. Registered with Figshare, a narrative synthesis following PRISMA guidelines was undertaken. </jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Findings:</jats:title><jats:p> Twenty articles revealed a dearth of literature evaluating advanced practice or prescribing in either profession. A lack of clarity regarding advanced practice roles led to ambiguity and hindered implementation. </jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusion:</jats:title><jats:p> There is a lack of evidence evaluating dietitian and therapeutic radiographer advance practice or prescribing. Urgent evaluation of dietitian and therapeutic radiography advanced practice, including prescribing, is required if their contribution to alleviating workforce shortages is to be better understood. </jats:p></jats:sec>
How can the circular economy contribute to the achievement of SDG 8: decent work and economic growth?
The circular economy is a model of consumption and production, which includes reusing, sharing, repairing, recycling, and refurbishing existing products and materials as long as possible. The related economic model aims to extend the life span of not only products and materials, but also organizations. The main purpose of this research is to investigate how circular economy models contribute to the actualization of one of the sustainable development goals, “Decent Work and Economic Growth”. The eighth Sustainable Development Goal has 10 sub-targets. In the process of determining the research sample, sectoral and economic growth opportunities were compared. As a result of this comparison, the IT sector was chosen as the sample, and software companies listed in BIST 100 will be examined. In this context, the extent to which the selected IT companies meet the sub-targets according to the determined parameters was examined by frequency analysis through the MAXQDA package program. This research can be considered one of the first studies in the literature that focused on the combination of circular economy and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by performing frequency analysis. Thus, it is foreseen that the outputs of the research will be valuable to organizations and policymakers in achieving the eighth goal.<br/
Understanding student perception and identification in cobranded UK HEIs based on consumer-company identification theory
This study explores student perception and identification with cobranded HEIs in the UK. Due to the success of many international partnerships, domestic academic partnerships have increased tremendously in the UK. However, little is known about student perception and identification with cobranded HEIs in local academic partnerships such as in the UK. Semi-structured interviews are conducted to explore student perception of cobranded HEIs in the UK. Thematic analysis using QSR NVivo 12 is employed. Findings indicate factors that determine students’ relationship with cobranded HEIs in the UK. Interview findings were shared with five academic experts to subjectively validate them for future empirical investigations. Theoretically, the study contributes to cobranding in higher education and corporate branding literature by showcasing the factors that influence students’ decision to enrol in cobranded HEIs. Based on identified factors, academic managers can devise a marketing strategy to achieve competitive advantage, increase student recruitment and retain existing students.</p
Editors’ Introduction
When compared with other professions such as law and medicine, educators do not have a strong sense of professional identity. There could be many reasons for this, not least because, as a sector, education has been compliant to the demands of others. In the UK, funding controls enforce ever-tighter budgets whilst external bodies demand continual improvements. The national teacher shortage in schools has outlined a range of recruitment and retention challenges including: falling teacher numbers, an increasing pupil population and 1 in 5 teachers leaving the profession within 2 years (EPI, 2022) Similar situations exist in other countries; in Australia and America there remain significant teacher shortages (Guardian, 2021; Campbell, 2021). In addition, an increased focus on ‘evidence-based’ practice has provided a framework for what is and isn’t considered good teaching, constraining choice and the freedom to take creative approaches to the role. The rising number of preferred protocols for practice raises questions about whether or not educators are trusted to use their own professional judgement. As a result, exploring what it means to be a professional in this context has not been high on the agenda for most teachers or leaders.</p
