    Identifying the ‘gaps’ where cloud computing can help computer laws in curbing cyber bullying and cyber stalking in India

    This paper tries to identify cloud computing as an aid to the existing computer law on cyber stalking and cyber bullying in India. The computer laws are there in the country for over two decades, but they still fail to truly identify the tort and its remedial measure. A secondary study is therefore being conducted, as evidential support, to the applicability of cloud computing in computer laws on cyber stalking and cyber bullying. The findings go on to support the claim that the interconnectedness, inoperability and ubiquity of cloud can create various opportunities to nab Cyberstalker and also remove the ambiguity out of the law

    Discriminative features learning based approach for object detection enhancement

    Object detection algorithms aim to classify and detect object class instances in images or videos. The effectiveness of these object detectors is due to substantial improvement in the deep convolutions neural networks. However, very few attempts have been made to explore the positive and negative object regions and to differentiate between similar objects with a distracting background in challenging scenarios. To achieve optimum training and completely leverage the capacity of model architectures, it is important to mitigate inter-class and intra-class variations during the training of the classifier to improve accuracy. To improve the accuracy, we proposed a new framework, using InceptionResNet-V2 and Resnet101 models as a backbone with a triplet loss function. The proposed framework learns the mapping from images to compact Euclidean distance, where the distance directly corresponds to a measure of object similarity. This new framework backbone trained with triplet loss function can be plugged into any detector. In our case, we selected SSD and replaced the original backbone network VGG-16 of SSD. The triplet loss function improves the classification performance and improves accuracy which leads to efficient object detection. Moreover, extensive experiments on the PASCAL VOC 2007 and PASCAL VOC 2012 datasets show the efficacy and enhancement of the proposed method, by comparing it with other states of the art methods

    This vision paper outlines the necessity to improve the user-experience of Extended Reality (XR) simulations. XR applications use the term 'immersion' to describe the technological factors that lead to an effective user experience and improve user presence [4] [9]. This research aims to improve immersion by user's motion tracking for playing [1] [2] enhanced by EEG signals from Brain especially for the extreme cricket bowling activities. This requires many nuanced controls including motion control. Hence, this empirical research enables mapping of the natural user interface (NUI) in game play [7] along with the Brain Computer Interaction (BCI) [8] to improve immersion. The research application development aims to pipeline a BCI device called 'NeuroConcise' [6] to acquire decision data for additional inputs to the commercial Virtual Reality (VR) Game controls from Meta [3]

    Creating a containing space for analysing data: roles and responsibilities in the Many Minds process

    This article forms part of a special issue on a psychosocial method of group data analysis characterised as Many Minds. In this article, we aim to democratise and render transparent the Many Minds process and outline its affordances as a method for analysing evocative and provocative data. The article begins with an acknowledgement of our own positionalities. We move on to explore the specific context in which our experiences were located, how the Many Minds approach operated in this space and the methods we devised for writing this article. Through sharing our understanding and experiences in three discrete Many Minds roles – the facilitator, the sharer and the participant – we reflect on the characteristics, responsibilities and practices associated with each of them. We consider how attending to these roles is pivotal to the creation of a containing and generative environment that maximises the opportunity for the unbearable to be borne, the unthinkable to be thought and for unconscious knowledge to be surfaced and voiced. Attending to these roles, we argue, is essential for a space to be created in which participants’ research experiences can be honoured, respected and better understood. Many Minds offers a generative approach that has rich potential for researchers, including practitioner researchers, who seek deeply reflexive psychosocial methods for data analysis.</p

    Interventions to support breastfeeding for infants under six months with growth faltering

    Background: Infants with growth faltering often require tailored interventions to support their breastfeeding. We systematically synthesised and examined evidence from qualitative studies on stakeholder perspectives about feasibility of breastfeeding interventions for infants aged &lt;6months with growth faltering. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of six electronic databases in addition to manual searches to identify qualitative studies published during January 2000-June 2024 on interventions to support breastfeeding for infants aged &lt;6m with growth faltering. Identified articles were screened in two stages against an inclusion criteria with titles and abstract screened first followed by full-text screening. Included studies were quality appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklist. The primary outcome was intervention feasibility. Results: Thirty studies, conducted in 15 countries were included. Interventions included pumping with machine, manual expression, cup/spoon/bottle supplementation, and minimal enteral feeding. Key factors that were seen to influence feasibility across interventions were: 1. Health service factors including availability of equipment, professional support, communication between healthcare professionals and mothers/parents, and consensus on interventions among healthcare professionals; 2. Mother and infant related factors including mothers’ motivation, preparedness and family support. Overall stakeholder perspectives reflected a dominance of health service factors across all interventions, acting as either a barrier or facilitator for uptake. Conclusions: Pumping breast milk with machine and manual expression were the most commonly reported interventions. There is a need to address health-service related barriers, both at policy and practice levels, to ensure feasibility of interventions to support breastfeeding for infants aged &lt;6m with growth faltering.     Experiences and attitudes of women and maternity care professionals towards the use of traditional, complementary, and alternative medicines and therapies during and after pregnancy: a qualitative evidence synthesis

    Background This paper explores the preliminary findings on the experiences and attitudes of women and maternity care professionals towards the use of traditional, complementary, and alternative medicines and therapies (TCAMTs) during and after pregnancy in high-income countries. Objective We aim to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the experiences and attitudes of women towards the use of TCAMTs during and after pregnancy? (2) What are the attitudes of maternity care professionals towards women’s use of TCAMTs during and after pregnancy? Methods A systematic literature review of peer-reviewed qualitative and mixed-methods studies published in English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish between January 2014 and November 2024. Comprehensive searches were conducted using the following electronic databases: CINAHL Complete (EBSCO), MEDLINE (EBSCO), EMBASE (Ovid), APA PsycINFO (EBSCO), Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), SocINDEX, and Scopus(Ovid). Findings Women often relied on self-prescribed herbal treatments or therapies recommended by friends, fellow pregnant women, and family rather than healthcare specialists. Their use of TCAMTs focused on: pain management (pregnancy-related, labour, and post-partum, particularly post-cesarean, pain); labour preparation (particularly spontaneous labour without pain relief intervention); emotional regulation; reclaiming post-partum femininity and sexuality; being in control and actively engaging in their healthcare and not just being instructed; seeking what they perceived as ‘safe’ and non-invasive therapies or remedies. They often perceived biomedical consultations as being insufficient and cited concerns over short consultations, avoidance of TCAMTs discussions, and lack of information about TCAMTs by maternity care professionals. Women, however, also raised concerns about TCAMTs safety and the lack of available information. Studies on healthcare professionals’ attitudes were limited, but one noted concerns about the lack of evidence for TCAMTs, their complementary nature, and their potential to empower women. Conclusion Improving communication between women and healthcare professionals is essential for shared decision-making and maximising the benefits of TCAMTs

    Supporting health and social care students stay and stay well: a conceptual framework for implementing integrated care into higher education

    Integrated care demands a workforce that is confident, capable and compassionate. This is dependent on a willingness to work inter-professionally and understand the roles, standards and values of other professional groups. However, there are few examples of integrated care initiatives within higher education that aim to build the knowledge and skills required to support effective integrated, people-centred care. While satisfying, working in the helping professions is emotionally challenging and for students’ these challenges are often underestimated. Some students struggle through their studies with many failing to complete and others drop out in the early years of their careers. Understanding what supports students to thrive in their professional roles is essential to retention of a highly skilled integrated workforce. To address this challenge, this paper outlines a conceptual framework designed to promote a pedagogical environment focused on creating the conditions for integrated working. The framework is based on the “student lifecycle”, from starting to see the benefits of a career in the helping professions, developing a sense of belonging through to thriving and succeeding as future practitioners. It outlines how students are supported to develop emotional resilience, inter-professional empathy and reflexivity to help them stay and stay well in their careers

    A submerged and buried Mesolithic site off Svanemøllen Harbor, Copenhagen, Denmark:acoustic detection (Human-Altered Lithic Detection) and verification by means of coring

    Teledyne Chirp III high-resolution seismic data were acquired over a three-year period at a water depth of 6.0–9.0 m, with a clear concentration of acoustic “haystack” features, in the dredged Svanemøllen Harbor, Copenhagen. The recordings show haystacks related to preserved shallow basins and rivers in the paleo-coastal setting. Eleven short vibrocores were retrieved below these pronounced haystacks and a sandy interval, underlain by clayey till and overlain by harbor mud, which represent the basin configuration. Two cores contained four pieces of knapped flint in the sandy interval (statistical density of around 230 pieces per square meter), while the remaining cores did not reach the desired depth. Finite Element (FE) modeling revealed that the small pieces of knapped flint were resonant and that the acoustic impedance of the flint was high. The Svanemøllen Harbor site is a hitherto unknown buried Stone Age site, and this is the first time ever that an unknown submerged, buried Stone Age site has been acoustically detected (using Teledyne Chirp III), verified by means of coring and modeled using FE modeling. The Innomar and Geopulse data acquired at the site did not register any haystacks. Due to the global sea level rise after the Last Glacial Maximum, a significant part of the world’s submerged Stone Age sites must be expected to be buried in seafloor sediments.</p

    Viewing mock crimes in virtual reality increases presence without impacting memory

    Traditional methods of displaying stimuli in eyewitness memory research, such as mock crime videos, are often criticised for lacking ecological validity. To overcome this, researchers have suggested using virtual reality (VR) technology to display the stimuli as it can promote a sense of presence, leading to real-world responses. However, little research has compared VR with traditional methods to demonstrate this enhanced validity. In Study 1, 54 participants viewed a mock crime video on screen or in VR while their heart rate was recorded, then completed measures of presence and emotion, and had their recall tested after 10 min. In Study 2, 74 participants' recall was tested after a 7-day delay and included a more in-depth exploration of emotional experience. In both studies, participants in the VR group reported a statistically significant increase in their sense of general presence, spatial presence, and involvement in the scene; however, there was no statistically significant difference in recall between the groups. Participants in the VR group had a statistically significant increase in heart rate in Study 1 only, and emotional experience in Study 2 only. The findings of this research suggest that VR may provide a more ecologically valid eyewitness experience than videos, without impacting participant memory or wellbeing. The findings of the current research are discussed in relation to previous literature and implications for experimental eyewitness memory research

    Theoretical mapping of the barriers and enablers to having blood pressure checked among adults without a hypertension diagnosis: a systematic review and theoretical synthesis using behaviour change frameworks

    Identifying influences on engagement with blood pressure (BP) checks can assist with intervention design for hypertension detection. This systematic review searched four databases (Embase, Emcare, MEDLINE and Web of Science) for papers published from 2015 to 2023 (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023398002). Eligible studies reported influences on BP checks in community or primary care settings. Data were coded and mapped using the Action, Actor, Context, Target, Time framework and Behaviour Change Wheel. Analysis of 18 studies generated eight themes: (1) ‘Difficult-to-use devices with no accessible information on how to use them' (2) ‘Lack of awareness about hypertension and BP checks', (3) ‘Stigma and disconnect with identity' (4) ‘Beliefs about the value of BP checks', (5) ‘Fear and uncertainty', (6) ‘Lack of appropriate and comfortable local services' (7) ‘Financial cost of engaging with BP check services' and (8) ‘Social contacts or health professional recommended a check'. Knowledge, identity, emotions, social contacts and environmental factors are key behavioural influences on adults’ engagement with BP checks. Potential intervention strategies include education on hypertension, addressing misconceptions about BP checks, increasing access to BP check services and harnessing the influence of social norms, social connections and trusted sources to improve engagement.</p
