Ficha individual: Suicidio

    No full text

Why Biological Evolution Should Inspire Worship

    No full text
The theory of biological evolution has often provoked disagreement, which has frequently been divisive and counterproductive. At other times this scientific paradigm has been discussed with an apologetic intent, to explain why the science of biology and the theology of creation cannot be seen to be mutually exclusive. This paper urges Christians to move decisively to a third type of discourse. The new field of comparative genetics has provided conclusive evidence that biological evolution has given rise to the diversity of living forms, including human beings. Consequently, Christians should, with confidence, gladly accept the evolutionary paradigm and look upon evolution as a divinely ordained historical process that develops through random (stochastic, free) process, but that leads to a divinely purposed consummation. As a result, biological history in its freedom but directedness to God’s final purposes should elicit wonder. People who have come to faith in the God revealed redemptively in Jesus should uninhibitedly offer adoration and praise for evolutionary fruitfulness. Worship should characterise the human response to biological history

If presentism is false, then I don’t exist. On common-sense presentism

    No full text
For many presentist philosophers, e.g. Zimmerman (Contemp Debates Metaphys 10:211–225, 2008), a central motivation in favour of presentism is that it is supposed to be part of common sense. But the fact that common-sense intuitions are indeed presentist is usually taken for granted (and sometimes also conceded by eternalists). As has been shown in other domains of philosophy (e.g. free will), we should be careful when attributing some supposed intuitions to common sense, and Torrengo (Phenomenology and Mind 12: 50–55, 2017) and Le Bihan (Igitur-Arguments Philos 9(1):1–23, 2018) have legitimately raised doubts about the assumption that common sense is presentist. In this paper, I take up this challenge and try to show that our common-sense intuitions do imply presentism. More precisely, the intuitions that I take to imply presentism are fundamental intuitions about our selves as conscious beings. The upshot is that presentism is so much embedded within our conception of our selves that if presentism is false, then I don’t exist

Architecture and design of luxury fashion brands’ flagships and boutiques: a comparison between Western and Eastern culture

    No full text
This research explores the architectural and design elements of Flagship and Boutique stores in the luxury fashion market, examining their roles across Western and Eastern cultural contexts. The primary goal is to understand how these stores reflect and enhance brand values, identity and consumer experiences in different cultural landscapes. Methodologically, the study employs a comparative analysis of architectural designs, incorporating case studies from distinct cultural environments, supplemented by literature reviews and theoretical frameworks. Results indicate significant differences in the design strategies between Western and Eastern contexts. Western Flagship stores often emphasize opulence and historical elements, integrating modern aesthetics to convey luxury and heritage. In contrast, Eastern stores focus on minimalism and harmony with nature, reflecting local aesthetic principles. Both designs aim to create immersive, engaging environments that enhance consumer experiences and brand loyalty. The study also reveals that technological integration, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), is increasingly playing a crucial role in modern store designs, offering personalized and interactive customer experiences. Additionally, sustainability is highlighted as a growing priority, with brands incorporating eco-friendly materials and energyefficient systems to align with contemporary consumer values. With this masters’ thesis it is underscored the strategic importance of physical retail spaces in luxury brand management, providing substantial insights into how architectural design can be leveraged to foster brand identity and consumer engagement in a growing competitive market

Inflammatory markers as diagnostic and precision nutrition tools for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: Results from the Fatty Liver in Obesity trial

    No full text
Background & aims: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a growing public health concern. The disease is silent, and its diagnosis is often delayed. Inflammatory markers constitute an interesting tool to act as subrogate, non-invasive markers. This study aimed to evaluate the changes of inflammatory markers throughout a two-year dietary intervention in subjects presenting MASLD, to determine which of the markers are suitable to predict the disease, and act as a customizing tool for MASLD's dietary treatment. Methods: Ninety-eight subjects with MASLD and forty-five controls from the Fatty Liver in Obesity (FLiO) Study were analyzed. MASLD was diagnosed and graded by ultrasound. The MASLD subjects were randomly assigned to two different dietary strategies, the American Heart Association (AHA diet) or a dietary strategy based on the Mediterranean pattern, which was specially designed for the study (FLiO diet), and then followed for two years. Hepatic status was additionally assessed through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), elastography, and determination of transaminases. Results & discussion: Inflammatory markers improved throughout the intervention in the MASLD sub- jects and managed to reach similar levels to controls, especially at 6 and 12 months. Additionally, leptin, adiponectin, M30, and LECT2 managed to significantly diagnose the disease at all time marks of the intervention, making them candidates for subrogate non-invasive markers of the disease. Moreover, baseline chemerin, leptin, LECT2, and M65 were used to build a predictive score to achieve greater weight loss, and therefore, which strategy could be more useful for MASLD ‘s treatment. The predictive score was significantly able assign a specific diet to 55% of the study participants, meaning that the remaining 45% could achieve the same amount of weight loss following either diet equally. Conclusion: Inflammatory markers constitute a potential non-invasive tool to be used in MASLD screening and could also constitute an interesting tool for MASLD's treatment customization, being able to predict the effectiveness of a dietary strategy based on the initial inflammatory state of each subject. A new fractional integration approach based on neural network nonlinearity with an application to testing unemployment hysteresis

    No full text
This paper proposes a nonlinear fractional unit root approach which is known as the autoregressive neural network–fractional integration (ARNN–FI) test. This new fractional integration test is based on a new multilayer perceptron of a neural network process, proposed in Yaya et al. (Oxf Bull Econ Stat 83(4):960–981, 2021). The asymptotic theory and the properties of the proposed test are given. By setting up a Monte Carlo simulation experiment, the simulation results reveal that as the number of observations increases, size and power distortions would disappear in the test. The empirical application based on this new test reveals that the unemployment rates of three European countries are neither stationary nor mean-reverting in line with the hysteresis hypothesis
