    No full text
This research project explores the strategic role of storytelling as a communication tool used by luxury brands to enhance perceived value and foster consumer loyalty. Through a narrative literature review and a bibliometric study based on articles retrieved from the Scopus database, the analysis examines how brands use emotional and symbolic narratives to establish deep connections with their target audiences. The findings reveal that storytelling fulfills not only an aesthetic or communicative function, but also constructs symbolic realities, reinforces the social status associated with luxury, and shapes consumer identity. On the other hand, the study shows that while effective, this strategy can become a sophisticated form of manipulation. Emotional storytelling, being deeply integrated into digital dynamics, tends to reinforce structures of exclusion and aspiration that may create tension for the consumer. Luxury brands must therefore balance their pursuit of differentiation with a more conscious, authentic, and culturally responsible narrative, while consumers must develop critical interpretation skills concerning the stories they consume and share

The occupational structure of Latin American Countries and worker exposure to COVID

    No full text
The COVID has spread in Latin America at a later stage of industrialized countries. Even if such states had a better understanding and more available information on how to face the virus, the sanitary infrastructure was less prepared in comparison to the industrialized countries. Latin American Countries (LAC) have a health system with inadequate coverage and an infrastructure deficit. These facts have made social distancing measures the most effective solution to contain the terrible effects of the pandemic

In a world conscious of health and well-being, eating habits have been undergoing a transformation in search of balance (Mayo Clinic, 2023) and returning to the roots with artisanally grown foods (Rodale Institute, n.d.). The demand for healthier and more sustainable culinary options has driven a change in the industry globally. Now, regarding the benefits to human health, importance and trend of a typical organic food restaurant, foods of this type are more nutritious, reduce the use of pesticides and contribute to the conservation of the environment, and are one of the segments to which consumers are migrating (Maldonado, 2023). It is worth noting then that consumer interest in purchasing organic products despite changes in the economy, is closely related to a concept of healthy and sustainable living, (…) The organic food industry has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, according to the annual report of the Organic Trade Association (OTA). (…) in this same article it is expressed that; (…) Despite food inflation, consumers continue to purchase organic products due to their interest in sustainability and health benefits (…). (Diana Sofia Maldonado, 2023). According to Columbia University, the industry has promoted organic foods for their sustainability benefits, highlighting that they use 45% less energy and emit 40% less carbon compared to non-organic foods (Diana Sofia Maldonado, 2023.). The change in consumer mentality has not only been directed towards the use of environmentally friendly tools that bring well-being to their lives, but also towards the preservation of the planet by acquiring foods that share this intention. Consumers, increasingly aware of the environment, consider sustainability when making food purchasing decisions. According to a survey conducted by Kearney, 42% of consumers say they always or almost always take sustainability into account (Diana Sofia Maldonado, 2023.) Thus, to contribute to this purpose, “Tres Valientes” was born as a proposal in typical Quindian gastronomy, without sacrificing flavor and tradition, putting on the table of locals and strangers, an option that can generate awareness towards organic food

Impact of Blastocystis carriage and colonization intensity on gut microbiota composition in a non-westernized rural population from Colombia

    No full text
Blastocystis is a common intestinal protist found in humans and animals, but its role in health and disease remains unclear. Some studies suggest that Blastocystis colonization is associated with healthier lifestyles and diverse gut microbiota, yet little is known about how its colonization and intensity influence bacterial and eukaryotic gut communities. This study analyzed 88 samples from a rural community in southwest Colombia to explore these associations. Using DNA sequencing, we compared bacterial and eukaryotic microbiota between Blastocystis-positive and -negative individuals and across varying colonization intensities. Blastocystis-positive individuals exhibited distinct bacterial profiles, characterized by higher abundances of Faecalibacterium, Alistipes, and Prevotella. Higher colonization intensity was associated with Lachnospira and Alistipes, while lower intensities correlated with Akkermansia, a bacterium linked to gut health. Among eukaryotes, Blastocystis-positive individuals showed distinct profiles, including Entamoeba coli, while Blastocystis-negative individuals had higher levels of fungi, such as Candida albicans. These findings suggest that Blastocystis plays a role in shaping gut microbiota, potentially contributing to microbial balance. By uncovering these relationships, this study provides new insights into the ecological and health implications of Blastocystis, particularly in rural populations where its prevalence is significant

Metabolic insights into hypoxia adaptation in adolescent athletes at different altitudes: a cross-sectional study

    No full text
Athletes use hypoxic training methods to enhance their performance under altitude conditions. Comparative studies involving populations from low (500–2,000 m) and moderate (2,000–3,000 m) altitudes offer an opportunity to understand the mechanisms behind adaptations to hypoxia. The present study combined data from metabolomics analysis based on gas- and liquidchromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS and LC-MS) to compare plasma profiles from 80 adolescent athletes at moderate- or low altitudes. 161 metabolites were identified, including 84 elevated and 77 decreased in moderate-altitude adolescents compared to their low-altitude counterparts. Pathway analysis revealed that metabolites related to carbohydrates, amino acids, and lipid metabolism differed between groups. Lipid metabolism was significantly altered in moderate-altitude athletes, including pathways such as linolenic and linoleic acid, sphingolipid, and arachidonic acid, as well as processes involving the transfer of acetyl groups into mitochondria and fatty acid biosynthesis. Biomarker analysis looking for signatures of chronic adaptation to moderate altitude identified glycerol and 5-oxoproline metabolites amongst the variables with the strongest sensitivity and specificity. This study demonstrates differences in metabolic profiles between moderate- and lowaltitude populations and highlights the potential of these differential metabolites and associated metabolic pathways to provide new insights into the mechanisms of adaptation to moderate altitude
