Znalost diabetu potřebná k poskytování kvalitní a bezpečné ošetřovatelské péče v lůžkových zařízeních: Průřezová studie
Background: Nurses bear responsibility for the daily care of persons with diabetes within the hospital environment. Insufficient knowledge of diabetes may have impact on safe care for hospitalized patients with diabetes.
Objectives: To evaluate both actual and perceived knowledge of diabetes among nurses at inpatient departments.
Design: A cross-sectional study that was carried out in November and December 2019. Settings and participants: Registered nurses working in inpatient medical facilities in the Czech Republic.
Methods: A knowledge of diabetes questionnaire incorporating a standardized diabetes knowledge test (revDKT); 10 semi-open items focused on nursing care in diabetology, and 25 scale items focused on self-assessment in nursing care for people with diabetes was designed. Descriptive and regression analysis in an exploratory regime was used to analyse the data.
Results: 593 registered nurses voluntarily participated in the study (average age of 39 ± 10). Their knowledge corresponds to an average 57 % success rate in the test. The overall level of knowledge is positively correlated with the overall level of self-assessment, specialization of nurses, length of their practice, and the level of education attained.
Conclusions: Nurses working in hospitals have a lot of gaps in their knowledge of diabetes and its care. This study demonstrates the need for targeted educational activities in diabetes management for nurses working in inpatient facilities to secure safe care for patients with diabetes
Exploring the ultralong lifetime of self-matrix 1,10 phenanthroline and boron-based room temperature phosphorescence carbon dots for multiple applications
Room temperature phosphorescence carbon dots (RTP CDs) are one of the newly investigated nanomaterials because of their remarkable optical characteristics. They are widely utilized in many versatile optoelectronic and security applications. Apart from synthesis, one of its challenging attributes is its lifetime at room temperature. Here, a straightforward and quick heating approach is presented for synthesizing self-matrix 1,10 phenanthroline and boron-based RTP CDs. 1,10 phenanthroline is utilized as an aromatic and hetero atom containing carbon precursor and boric acid is used as a passivating to stabilize the triplet excitons and prevent nonradiative deactivation. Various characterization techniques like TEM, XRD, FTIR, UV–vis, PL, and elemental analysis (ICP and CHNS) have been used to study the properties of self-matrix RTP CDs. The RTP CDs exhibited excellent blue-green emission when excited at 302 nm. Compared to the available literature, the novelty of this work is observed from its high naked eye phosphorescence characteristic of ≈22 s with an average lifetime of ≈ 2.4 s at 302 nm, making them ultralong self-matrix RTP CD material. Spillover effects of Japanese firms and the role of absorptive capacity in Vietnam
The paper examines the role of the absorptive capacity of Vietnamese manufacturing firms in facilitating the link from Japanese spillovers to the productivity of local firms in the manufacturing sector. By using the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) and threshold regression model with dynamic panel data from 2005 to 2018, the paper finds the following points. Firstly, the appearance and operation of Japanese firms can bring the positive horizontal labour effect and backward competition effect but it also brings the negative backward labour effect. Secondly, the absorptive capacity of domestic firms can help reduce the negative spillover effects and increase the positive spillover effects. Finally, if domestic firms cannot reach a threshold of absorptive capacity, they will suffer from Japanese spillovers while if they meet the threshold of absorptive capacity, they can enjoy the externalities from the operation and cooperation with Japanese firms.Sumitomo Foundation, SF; Tomas Bata University in Zlín, TBUTomas Bata University in Zli
Analytical calculation approach of heat-build up in rubber cylinder
Since cyclic loading causes heat accumulation in the rubber parts due to a combination of mechanical energy dissipation and low thermal conductivity, it is necessary to be able to predict the temperature evolution in the rubber to avoid reducing its service life. In this paper, the analytical approach for calculating the steady-state temperature distribution throughout the cross section of the cylinder are derived. Boosting plant oil yields: The role of genetic engineering in industrial applications
As climate change intensifies and the need to reduce human-caused emissions becomes more urgent, transitioning to a bio-based economy is essential. This paper explores the diverse industrial applications of plant oils as sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based products, including their use in food, polymers, lubricants, surfactants, pesticides, emollients, and biofuels. This review delves into biosynthetic pathways, detailing the key enzymes and processes involved in the synthesis of triacylglycerol. It thoroughly discusses how genetic and metabolic engineering can not only increase oil yields but also modify fatty acid compositions to better meet industrial requirements. By understanding genetics and utilizing advanced biotechnologies, the oil content and quality of plant sources can be significantly enhanced, aligning with both sustainability goals and industrial demands. Tensile properties of four types of ABS lattice structures—A comparative study
This article aims to compare the behaviour of four types of lattice structures named Cartesian, Rhomboid, Octagonal, and Starlit under tensile stress loading. The structures were made of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) material using the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) technique with three different specific volumes (24, 42, and 60%). Five samples of each type were produced, and a total of 60 samples were tested. Experimental testing was performed according to EN ISO 527-1:2012 and EN ISO 527-2:2012. The obtained data were statistically processed, while no outliers were identified. The experimental results pointed out that the specimens' topology, together with the specific volume, very significantly affected the resultant ABS properties of the tested samples made of the same material. The comparative study showed that in terms of ultimate strength, yield strength, and Young's modulus, the Cartesian structure appeared to be the most suitable for tensile stress, and the least suitable structure was the Rhomboid structure. Hyaluronan oligosaccharides form double-helical duplexes in water:1,4-dioxane mixed solvent
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a hydrophilic natural polysaccharide consisting of alternating monosaccharide units of glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine. In aqueous solutions the electrostatic repulsion of the carboxylate groups hampers the formation of supermolecular structures that can be partially stabilized by the addition of salt. Increased permittivity of the mixed water:organic solvents causes better compensation of the negative charge of HA chains by dissolved cations which changes their interactions with other molecules. In this study we simulate interactions of two HA chains in water:1,4-dioxane and water:tert-butanol mixed solvents with varying NaCl concentrations using molecular dynamics (MD). Anti-parallel double-helix-like duplexes are formed in NaCl-containing water:1,4-dioxane mixture and remain stable even when NaCl is removed. Parallel duplexes separate after a short time. In water:tert-butanol analogous duplexes are unstable. Physicochemical characterisation of polysaccharide films with embedded bioactive substances
In this study, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMCNa) bioactive films, crosslinked with citric acid (CA), were prepared and comprehensively examined for their suitability in various applications, focusing on food packaging. The films displayed favourable properties, including appropriate thickness, transparency, and moisture content, essential for packaging purposes. Moreover, the films exhibited excellent moisture absorption rate and barrier properties, attributed to the high concentration of CMCNa and the inclusion of a CA. These films presented no significant effect of crosslinking and bioactive components on their mechanical strength, as evidenced by tensile strength and elongation at break values. Thermal stability was demonstrated in the distinct weight loss events at different temperature ranges, with crosslinking contributing to slightly enhanced thermal performance. Furthermore, the films showed varying antioxidant activity levels, influenced by temperature and the solubility of the films in different media, indicating their potential for diverse applications. Overall, these bioactive films showed promise as versatile materials with desirable properties for food packaging and related applications, where the controlled release of bioactive components is advantageous for enhancing the shelf life and safety of food products. Commitment-based HRM and inbound open innovation in SMEs: the role of organizational trust and developmental culture
Purpose: Although scholars have been studying human resource management (HRM) and open innovation (OI), yet there is less attention to this relationship in the context of small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This paper aims to bring some insights about the human side of inbound open innovation (INOI) in SMEs. The goal is to better understand the role of organizational trust (OT) and developmental culture (DC) in the interactions between commitment-based HRM (C-HRM) and INOI.
Design/methodology/approach: The present study employs partial least squares-structural equation modeling to investigate the interrelationships among constructs, utilizing data gathered from a sample of 206 SMEs.
Findings: The study's empirical results indicate that the presence of OT serves as a complementary factor in mediating the relation between C-HRM and INOI. Furthermore, the analysis shows that there exists a moderating influence of DC in the relationship between C-HRM and INOI.
Practical implications: The role of HRM practices is important in developing OT and consequently foster INOI in SMEs. To achieve INOI, SMEs need a DC that induces C-HRM toward an OI approach.
Originality/value: This study adds to the understanding of the interactions between C-HRM practices and INOI in SMEs. Statistical evaluation of hard-to-measure surfaces
The main goal of this article will be to find ways to evaluate hard-to-measure surfaces statistically. First, the basic characteristics and rules of surface quality will be described according to the standards ČSN EN 4287, ČSN EN 4288 and ČSN EN ISO 2517-2. Subsequently, the measured values of the roughness parameter Sa (arithmetic average of the height of the measured surface) and Sz (the maximum height of the measured surface) will be compared and evaluated which is the best. These parameters will be described and measured on aluminium plates on which the test surfaces were laser engraved. To evaluate the best surface, statistical methods will be used, such as the EDA methodology (exploratory data analysis), hypothesis testing with normality and outlier tests, and last but not least, cluster or cluster analysis, which compares the similarity of the measured data.
