Pedagogical aspects of the development of academic stress

    Get PDF
Stress and its effects bring a number of problems and complications for university students. Long-term and frequent exposure to negative factors can lead not only to students dropping out of studies but also to the development of health complications. The aim of the present study was to analyse the pedagogical aspects that contribute to the emergence and impact of academic stress, with more than half of the respondents reporting that they encountered stressful situations at least twice a week. One of the biggest burdens the students indicated was performance assessment, with the traditional grading system reported as insufficient to their needs. Other elements were reported as contributing to the development of stress, including the attitude of teachers, the lack of information about the university operations as well as the perceived lack of meaning in the presented curriculum. The questionnaire and other tools used for data collection and analysis were suitably adapted to the university context, with the research sample consisting of 984 students. The data were analysed using factor exploratory analysis, the Pearson correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination. Six factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis: organizational aspects, communication, meaning of study, perceived deprivation, interpersonal relationships, and university environment.Tomas Bata University in Zlin, TBU, (IGA/FHS/2021/001)Internal Grant Agency [IGA/FHS/2021/001

Improvement of postharvest quality and bioactive compounds content of persimmon fruits after hydrocolloid-based edible coating application

    Get PDF
Persimmon fruits are often affected by large postharvest losses due to rapid ripening and the early onset of senescence. To reduce such losses in fresh fruits, the application of hydrocolloid-based edible coatings was conducted. Therefore, a plant hydrocolloid-based gum, tragacanth gum (TCG), was applied to persimmon fruits at 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% TCG concentrations, and stored at 20 ± 2 °C and 80–85% relative humidity for 20 days (analysis at 0, 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th day). As a result of TCG application on persimmon fruits, there were greatly suppressed respiration rates, ethylene production, weight loss, decay incidence, and H2O2 and malondialdehyde content. In addition, TCG-coated persimmon fruits had higher concentrations of bioactive compounds including phenols, flavonoids, carotenoids, ascorbic acid, and soluble tannin. Higher enzymatic antioxidant activities and lower softening enzyme activities were also recorded for TCG-coated persimmon fruits. Uncoated persimmon fruits quickly lost fruit quality attributes like color, firmness, taste, and aroma during storage compared to coated ones. Based on our findings, the use of TCG, especially at the concentration of 1% TCG, can be recommended to be applied as the edible coating to maintain the nutritional, biochemical, and commercial quality of persimmon fruits during ambient storage. © 2022 by the authors.Tomas Bata University in Zlin, TBU: IGA/FT/2022/004internal grant of Tomas Bata University in Zlin [IGA/FT/2022/004

The impact of different hydrocolloids on the viscoelastic properties and microstructure of processed cheese manufactured without emulsifying salts in relation to storage time

    Get PDF
The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the addition of selected hydrocolloids [agar (AG), κ-carrageenan (KC), or gelatin (PG); as a total replacement for emulsifying salts] on the viscoelastic properties and microstructure of processed cheese (PC) samples during a storage period of 60 days (at 6 ± 2 °C). In general, PC viscoelastic properties and microstructure were affected by the addition of hydrocolloids and the length of storage time. The evaluated PC reported a more elastic behavior (G′ > G″) over the viscous one. The highest values of viscoelastic moduli (G′; G″; G*) were recorded for PC samples manufactured with KC addition, followed by those prepared with AG and PG. The control sample presented values of viscoelastic moduli similar to those of the PG sample. All PC samples tested had fat globule size values lower than 1 μm. Moreover, PC with AG and KG addition presented similar microstructures and sizes of fat globules.CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000867; Tomas Bata University in Zlin, TBU: IGA/FT/2022/005European Regional Development Fund in the Research Centre of Advanced Mechatronic Systems project within the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education [CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000867]; Internal Grant Agency of the Tomas Bata University in Zlin [IGA/FT/2022/005

The presented paper is devoted to finding out and analyzing the opinions of primary education teachers on the causes of the unsuccessful adaptation of current schoolchildren to the beginning of systematic education. To find out the above issues, pedagogical research was carried out at selected primary schools in Slovakia. The implementation of the research and the subsequent analysis of the research results confirmed that the length of teachers' pedagogical practice has a statistically significant effect on their views on the causes of adaptation difficulties in emotional, social, intellectual, and psychomotor areas of children's school readiness.Agentúra na Podporu Výskumu a Vývoja, APVV: 015UKF-4/2021, APVV-14-0446Slovak Research and Development Agency [KEGA 015UKF-4/2021]; [APVV-14-0446

Social media adoption in SMEs sustainability: Evidence from an emerging economy

    Get PDF
Social media is constantly changing the business landscape across all economic sectors. Given this, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are leveraging this to give their businesses a new trend. In emerging economies, however, the rate of adoption and integration of social media among small and medium enterprises appears to have lagged due to a multitude of factors. Drawing on the technology organization and environment (TOE) framework, the purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting social media application adoption and their impact on SMEs' sustainability in Ghana's context. Data was collected from 430 managers of SMEs in Ghana using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using a PLS-SEM. Findings revealed that cost-effectiveness, customer pressure, employees' competence, financial resource availability, and leaders' support positively influence social media adoption, while social media adoption also impacts SME firms' sustainability. A negative effect was, however, observed for factors like industry pressure, perceived complexity, relative advantage, and perceived compatibility. This study contributes to the rising deployment of social media by businesses to improve their competitiveness. The implications of the research are also discussed

Remote sensing image fusion based on PCA and wavelets

    No full text
Remote sensing, in the recent past, has witnessed continuous developments in the field of environment, agriculture and security. The satellites obtain the information in two domains—spectral resolution and spatial resolution which are highlighted in the Low-Resolution Multi-Spectral (LRMS) and the Panchromatic (PAN) images, respectively. Remote sensing image fusion aims to integrate this complimentary information of the PAN and the LRMS images. In this paper, this has been achieved through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT). The proposed fusion approach involves extraction of the Ist Principal Component (PC) of the LRMS image while simultaneously performing Morphological Hat Transformation on PAN image. The resultant images undergo Discrete Wavelet Transformation to produce approximation (cA) and detail (cD) coefficients. These coefficients are fused using appropriate fusion rules, and the resultant images are synthesized using Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transformation (IDWT) to produce the final fused image. The results have been evaluated which are presented in the later sections

Cyber security in the healthcare sector - Current threats

    No full text
Information technology is a common part of human activities today. In most countries of the world, the security, health, and industrial sectors can be established here. The dependence of these sectors on information technology has been significantly strengthened by the global covid-19 pandemic and the current war in Ukraine. Data digitization has brought positives such as availability, fast transmission, and processing of necessary information. As well as negatives as constant attempts to steal, destroy or abuse them. Health care is one of the sectors where it is the target of not only enrichment attacks, but also terrorist motives - the attack causes chaos and panic among the population. The number of such attacks increased dramatically during the covid - 19 pandemic and the military conflict in Ukraine. The article is therefore intended to point out the need for constant evaluation of changing environmental influences and motivations for attacks with regard to the topicality of security. The introduction of the article contains a theoretical framework of the issue with a description of the motivation and behavior of the offender. It goes on to list the most common ways of conducting cyber-attacks. Significant attacks on hospitals in the Czech Republic and around the world are also mentioned. It focuses on their motivation, success and damage caused. Finally, the common characteristic strengths and weaknesses of the SWOT method are evaluated, followed by opportunities and threats. In the end, the current extended recommendations follow the current routine operation of security procedures with an emphasis on changes and new threats in the global environment.CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/16_018/0002381; Univerzita Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně: IGA / FAI / 2022/00

Assembling a supramolecular 3D network with tuneable mechanical properties using adamantylated cross-linking agents and β-cyclodextrin-modified hyaluronan

    Get PDF
Hydrogels based on the supramolecular host-guest concept can be prepared if at least one constituent is a polymer chain modified with supramolecular host or guest (or both) units. Low-molecular-weight multitopic counterparts can also be used, however, guest molecules in the role of cross-linking agents are seldom reported, although such an approach offers wide-ranging possibilities for tuning the system properties via easily achievable structural modifications. In this paper, a series of adamantane-based star-like guest molecules was used for crosslinking of two types of beta-cyclodextrin-modified hyaluronan (CD-HA). The prepared 3D supramolecular networks were characterised using nuclear magnetic resonance, titration calorimetry and rheological measurements to confirm the formation of the host-guest complexes between adamantane moieties and beta-cyclodextrin units, including their typical properties such as self-healing and dynamic nature. The results indicate that the nature of the cross-linker (amides versus esters) has a greater impact on mechanical properties than the length of the guest's arms. In addition, the results show that the length of the HA polymer chain is more important than the degree of modification with supramolecular units. In conclusion, it was proven that the modular concept employing low-molecular-weight cross-linking guests is valuable for the formulation of supramolecular networks, including hydrogels.Tomas Bata University in Zlin, TBU: RP/CPS/2022/001, RP/CPS/2022/003project OP RDE Junior Grants of TBU in Zlin [CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/19_073/0016941]; Internal Funding Agency of TBU [IGA/FT/2022/001]; [RP/CPS/2022/001]; [RP/CPS/2022/003

Transfer-stable aggregation functions: Applications, challenges, and emerging trends

    No full text
The original transfer-stable aggregation functions generalized the arithmetic means to finite chains. The idea of applying these functions was later demonstrated by purchasing several products depending on the quality and price of the products. This paper aims to continue this idea and show other possible applications of transfer-stable aggregation functions. We identify several concerns in various applications and present possible remedies to address these concerns. We show different types of lattices could be used to compile the assignment of a given application problem. Based on this finding, we can very effectively divide the products into so-called qualitative classes. We conclude that distance-stable lattices are most effective in these applications. Moreover, we also show that the classes better reflect reality using these lattices
