    Mapping Mindset about Gamification: Teaching Learning Perspective in UAE Education System and Indian Education System

    One can observe the dramatic change in the ongoing global pandemic impacts, and the speed of advancement in the educational learning system, particularly in virtual teaching learning process, has been extremely quick. Teachers' use of technology to deliver instruction to students via a variety of platforms has a significant impact on how well those students learn. A variety of factors influence how well students learn and how well teachers teach, including how well they use the most effective teaching technique. Teachers' and students' perspectives on instructional strategies should take precedence. Empirical study will be undertaken to demonstrate that there are tactics and approaches, such as Gamification, that teachers may use to improve their teaching. The proposed study looked into teachers' reported usage and implementation of these instructional tactics in their classrooms in different schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) & India. The parents also adopted the strategies for digital transformation of their children. Participants in the research included teachers from schools in the United Arab Emirates and India. Motivation is to find and reveal that teachers are employing ICT approaches such as Gamification and are also extremely aware of and comfortable with new teaching methodologies. Other findings show that teachers in both countries agree on the necessity of using digital tools to improve the learning outcomes of their students

    Improving and Sustaining the Quality of Discharge Summaries

    High quality discharge information communication has been linked to a reduction in the incidence of adverse events, decreasing the risk of prescription errors and lost follow up. In this paper we describe how our trust-wide quality improvement project, led by acute physicians, successfully improved discharge documentation. We demonstrate how we identified obstacles to continued success, and the interventions we implemented. We recommend how discharge summary quality can be optimised through training of junior doctors, recruitment of local champions, and use of novel methods to preserve engagement, such as gamification

    [Display omitted] •Pd nanoparticles dispersed in carbon black were further loaded on carbon felt (Pd/C@CF) can catalyze the production of atomic hydrogen (H*).•H* can replace the Fe2+ to reduce H2O2 in a Fenton-like reaction with H2O as byproduct.•The effects of various influence factors on the electro-Fenton process induced by H* reactivity were investigated.•The Pd/C@CF cathode was proved to be a little pH dependent, highly stable, and potentially practical applications in wastewater treatment. Heterogeneous electro-Fenton (HEF) reaction is a highly efficient process for the degradation and mineralization of refractory organic pollutants in water. Since atomic hydrogen H*, currently widely used in electrocatalytic hydrogen dechlorination (ECHD) domains, can rapidly transfer one electron to H2O2 to generate OH and H2O, it has been considered as a promising species instead of Fe2+ for HEF reactions. However, H* is extremely unstable as it can be easily combined into hydrogen gas (H2), appropriate electro-catalytic material would be needed in order to speed up the production of H* on the one hand, and stabilize this in-situ formed species on the other. Here we show that house-synthesized Pd nanoparticles dispersed in carbon black (∼8 % Pd on carbon) which were further loaded on carbon felt (Pd/C@CF) exhibited an excellent performance in HEF process for degradation of a variety of organic compounds (with the best of ∼99 % in 75 min). Radical scavenging experiments revealed that hydroxyl radical (OH) was the key reactive species, and cyclic voltammetry tests proved the stabilization of H* by Pd nanoparticles which in turn resulted in a significant increase in the yield of OH via the reduction of H2O2. The superior performance could be attributed to the Pd nanoparticles dispersed uniformly in carbon with a large number of active sites, thereby lowering the over potential to create a suitable microenvironment for H* generation and stabilization. In addition, the Pd/C@CF composite was proved to be a little pH dependent, highly stable, and well recyclable for effective utilization of H* towards a rapid HEF oxidation for potentially many practical applications in wastewater treatment

    Teacher education in times of change: responding to challenges across the UK and Ireland

    Teacher education in times of change offers a critical examination of teacher education policy in the UK and the Republic of Ireland over the past three decades, since the governments of all five nations started making major interventions. Written by a research group from the five countries, it makes international comparisons and covers broader developments in professional learning, to place these key issues and lessons in a wider context. The approach taken is a broad cultural historical one that seeks to deploy a ‘home international’ comparative methodology. After analytical accounts of policy developments in each of the five nations, four themes are considered cross-nationally: standards and accountability; research; higher education; and partnership. The major conclusion reached is that there are distinctive elements both in policy processes and in policy outcomes in all five of the nations but also significant commonalities that appear to reflect some of the wider trends in teacher education internationally that may be associated with globalisation. The analysis provided by the book demonstrates the deep political, sociological and educational significance of teacher education in contemporary democratic societies

    An efficient and privacy-preserving scheme for disease prediction in modern healthcare systems

    With the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile healthcare applications can now offer a variety of dimensionalities and online services. Disease Prediction Systems (DPS) increase the speed and accuracy of diagnosis, improving the quality of healthcare services. However, privacy is garnering an increasing amount of attention these days, especially concerning personal healthcare data, which are sensitive. There are a variety of prevailing privacy preservation techniques for disease prediction that are rendered. Nonetheless, there is a chance of medical users being affected by numerous disparate diseases. Therefore, it is vital to consider multi-label instances, which might decrease the accuracy. Thus, this paper proposes an efficient privacy-preserving (PP) scheme for patient healthcare data collected from IoT devices aimed at disease prediction in the modern Health Care System (HCS). The proposed system utilizes the Log of Round value-based Elliptic Curve Cryptography (LR-ECC) to enhance the security level during data transfer after the initial authentication phase. The authorized healthcare staff can securely download the patient data on the hospital side. Utilizing the Herding Genetic Algorithm-based Deep Learning Neural Network (EHGA-DLNN) can test these data with the trained system to predict the diseases. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach improves prediction accuracy, privacy, and security compared to the existing methods

    Analysing data quality frameworks and evaluating the statistical output of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ reports

    This paper evaluates the quality of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ report for 2020, and devises a new data quality assessment framework based on analysing many data quality frameworks. Data in this paper is collected from the official UN SDG official website, and the national statistics offices of the UN countries. A weighted-score sum module is also being utilized to find the best data quality dimension. These dimensions are then used to create a new data quality framework. It is found that the UN SDGs used a data quality framework that is based on statistical output factors and ignores other quality factors and therefore the score for assessing this report is 56%. The perceived identified gaps include: countries are using different quality and assessment frameworks which cause inconsistency in data quality; data is outdated and incomplete; data is not available for many indicators and countries; cost and efficiency are not part of the UN SDG data quality framework; therefore weak data management is found. Areas for improvement include creating one comprehensive data quality framework for all countries will ensure the highest data quality

    Histories of Scottish teacher education: sources for research

    This article considers sources available to researchers interested in exploring the development of teacher education as a professional field and teacher education research as an educational science. The position of the history of education as a university subject has itself been subject to contestation (producing expansion and contraction) and illustrates aptly the precarious and contingent nature of claims to jurisdiction in specialist professional fields (Robinson, 2000). This article considers the challenge made by historians and sociologists working in a cultural mode to ‘standard’ narrative histories (Novoa, 2001; Popkewitz et al, 2001) and identifies sources for research that might be deployed in constructing a ‘genealogy’ of teacher education (Gale, 2001 ). The purpose of this article is not to offer an account from among the multiple histories of teacher education but to draw attention to the range of source material and value of retaining an historical perspective within interdisciplinary enquiry

    Ontology-based Collaborative Assembly in the Low-Volume High-Variability Manufacturing

    Forming collaborative assembly along supply chains is a challenge in the presence of resource limitations. This paper presents an Ontology-driven Assembly Design Method (OADM) to facilitate the design of demand-driven SME collaborations envisioned in digital transformation initiatives such as Industry 4.0. The Relevance cycle addresses the key requirement to reducing coordination costs of such SME collaborations. The Design cycle develops the ontology, which includes: (i) goals, supplier processes, and resources as hierarchies of classes; (ii) properties to interconnect these classes; and (iii) SWRL rules to derive a possible combination of process steps to reach the goal of collaborative assembly. The feedback from SME Cluster managers indicates that OADM is a promising approach to overcoming barriers to planning demand-driven SME collaborations.
