Authentic leadership: Understanding time as its currency
There is a paucity of empirically rigorous research that examines the role of time inauthentic leadership development. This study, therefore, explores this multifacetedprocess through the lens of authentic leaders within a developing economy. It uncoversfive factors; belief system, urge to create change, future-focused, role modelling, andexperiences that stimulate leadership development across the subconscious, consciousand anchoring phase. The study contributes to the theory and practice of authenticleadership within a developing economy context. Random Forest approach to predict emergency patients? hospitalization duration for the health sector
The ability to accurately predict the hospitalization duration of an accident and emergency (A&E) patient’s hospital stay is essential for improving patient care, managing healthcare resources, and overall hospital efficiency. This study examined several machine learning prediction models, such as the Decision Tree regression model, Support Vector Regression, and Random Forest regression model, to predict hospitalization for A&E patients. The Random Forest Regression model stands out as the best-fit model and a reliable predictor of hospitalization duration among these models, with a Mean squared error (MSE) value of 11.6079. In this quantitative research-based study, we used a secondary dataset, the MIMIC-III dataset, which has an abundance of patient and medical information and parameters that helped to ensure the authenticity and applicability of the generated predictive models. The results of this study will improve healthcare management by providing an accurate and efficient approach for predicting the length of an A&E patient’s hospital stay
Performance analysis of a gas turbine engine via intercooling and regeneration- Part 2
The current study aims to amplify the predictive ability of the numerical model developed for a gas turbine engine-based power plants by process of regeneration and intercooling. Artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface systems (ANFIS) are the two techniques mainly concentrated in this study which were not properly implemented previously. The performance parameters namely, specific power (SP), thermal efficiency (η), and enthalpy based specific fuel consumption (EBSFC) of a Turboprop engine were predicted using thermodynamic parameters namely, pressure ratio (PR), nozzle pressure ratio (NPR), turbine inlet temperature (TIT), for constant regeneration (R), and intercooling (E) efficiencies. The results showed that a high regression result R2 of 0.9831 and 0.9899was found for the ANFIS model for η for training and testing, respectively. Also, the ANFIS model resulted in best performance of the performance characteristics when compared to ANN
Undergraduate nurses at risk of attrition. How far does a pilot intervention programme accelerate success for learners identified at risk of attrition in the Faculty of Health?
Our NHS Health England research project has identified learners at risk of not completing their chosen course within the Health and Wellbeing Faculty.Our evidence suggests learners may not engage with their programme of study and do not always take advantage of the support available to them. Further evidence shows that learners who are experiencing difficulties and struggling with their programme are the most at risk of transient levels of stress and low motivation and engagement. This is due to the perceived pressure of work especially preparing for and completing assessments while developing professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Consequently, learners may leave their programme of study, for a range of reasons unknown to the academic team at the time of withdrawal or may experience unsuccessful assessment leading to fail and finish decisions at progression and award examination boards
Heat transfer of Ca (NO3)2-KNO3 molten salt mixtures for austempering and martempering processes of steels
Molten salts are highly effective as a quenching medium for austempering and martempering processes, enabling precise control of cooling rates to achieve the desired microstructures and mechanical characteristics in steel components. One such promising molten salt is a multicomponent Ca (NO3)2-KNO3 molten salt. The current work explores the cooling severity of molten Ca (NO3)2-KNO3 mixtures, which are commonly used for such purposes. The said mixture, with varying concentrations and bath temperatures was used for quenching the Inconel probe with thermocouples. The temperature data extracted was used to determine the transient heat flux developed at the metal?quenchant interface. A set of critical points were assessed against the peak heat extraction rates. Additionally, the fluctuation of mean heat flux and surface temperature in relation to these crucial points were plotted, along with changes in composition and bath temperature of the quench media. The cooling intensity of these quench solutions, as measured by Inconel probes, correlated well with the average hardness values observed in steel probes. The level of homogeneity in heat transmission, as measured by the spatial variance of the normalized heat energy, decreased as the percentage of KNO3 in the quench medium increased
Necessity the mother of (RE) invention: using positive autoethnography for trauma and loss
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of positive autoethnography for the consequences of conversion therapy. Life after conversion therapy is, for many, a life-changing episode, especially when combined with disfellowship. In recent years, positive autoethnography has grown substantially. The work of Tedeschi and Calhoun (2004), from the school of positive psychology, focuses on posttraumatic growth following a traumatic event or series of events.Design/methodology/approachQualitative approach of positive autoethnography.FindingsThis innovative case study highlights personal struggles with grief, depression and suicidal ideation. In addition, the time elapsed has enabled a process to juggle with alternative ideas moving forward in salvaging a form of identity.Research limitations/implicationsTreatment as usual psychological therapies (TAUPT) provide many unhelpful triggers due to the same jargon used in both conversion therapy and TAUPT. Away from TAUPT, this writing exercise may help as a stand-alone post-conversion recovery process.Practical implicationsThe post-conversion recovery process will offer much-needed help with only a few face-to-face meetings to aid the posttraumatic growth writing exercise.Social implicationsThe suicide rates for sexual minority conversion therapy victims are eight times higher than those of other sexual minority groups and isolation levels. A single point of entry pathway for conversion therapy survivors is needed. Originality/value To the best of the author's knowledge, the first of its kind to apply positive autoethnography using the model as a framework to understand the post-conversion therapy experience, looks for growth in five areas: relating to others, new possibilities, personal strength, spiritual change and appreciation of life
Application and evaluation of the Secured Blockchain Framework
In this paper, we have discussed a unique application of Blockchain technology to reform weapons management. We provide Data Integrity, Accountability, and Transparency throughout the logistic chain with our decentralized ledger technology. We secure transactions using smart contracts and advanced cryptographic methods that massively reduce fraudulence and tampering. The distributed and immutable architecture of the blockchain offers a very strong framework for the transparent tracking and verification of the movement and preservation of defence assets and guarantees that all transactions will forever be securely stored on the blockchain. The result is greater trust and coordination among a host of actors, including suppliers, manufacturers and military units, which translates into more efficient and more reliable operations. Smart contracts, moreover, enable supply chain functions such as inventory management, purchasing, and maintenance scheduling to be automated and streamlined, limiting human error and operational costs. With this enhancement, we become more operationally-efficient and operation-ready. Georgia Tech demonstrated how its novel solution for defence logistics-known for its trustworthiness and tolerance to disruption-has the potential to make a seismic change that enables the secure and efficient management of such vital assets in the defence industry
A Systematic review on blockchain-based access control systems in cloud environment
The widespread adoption of cloud computing has dramatically altered how data is stored, processed, and accessed in an era. The rapid development of digital technologies characterizes all this. The widespread adoption of cloud services has introduced new obstacles to guaranteeing secure and expeditious access to sensitive data. Organizations of all types find user-friendly and cost-effective solutions crucial, which is why they consider cloud services essential. The availability of the cloud hampers access control security in systems that are constantly and remotely changing. Conventional methods of access control are efficient, but the advanced world of technology exposes them to more threats. Applying blockchain technology to cloud access control systems, which are decentralized, transparent, and tamper-proof, has overcome these challenges. This paper aims to discuss the potential of blockchain in enhancing access management, security and trust in cloud computing. Besides, this scholarly article reviews the evolving area of blockchain-based access control systems and synthesizes the findings of 118 selected papers from various academic repositories. Based on this systematic review of the studies, twelve different types of blockchain-based access control paradigms can be identified. This work provides a critical analysis of the research on blockchain technology in access control systems, with a focus on scalability, compatibility, and security challenges. It also highlights areas that require further research and proposes directions for future research to advance this rapidly growing area of scholarship
