Blockchain-assisted Internet of Things (IoT) framework for malware detection using metaheuristic algorithm and deep learning algorithm
No full textThe Internet of things (IoT) is an all-encompassing web of devices whose evolution is reaching unimaginable levels of convenience and data-driven insights. IoT networks are becoming more transformative, and this is happening amidst concerns on their security, especially when routing attacks are involved and pose threats to data integrity as well as the entire system security. To overcome these concerns, we propose a comprehensive and multi-layered security model for IoT routing that is designed specifically for this task. The main elements of our proposed solution comprise a solid data validation, encryption, and intrusion detection system – which are the cornerstone of IoT networks’ reliability and security. However, IoT systems are resource-limited in essence, which means that the approaches different from the traditional ones should be sought. RSA encryption with SHA3-512 integrity verification algorithm for the purposes of secure data transmission is the method we apply. A Thermal Exchange Optimization (TEO) algorithm is used to deal with the generation of optimal cryptographic keys, hence outperforming the traditional key generation method. Intrusion detection, as a fundamental element of IoT security, is tackled through deployment of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) solution. An intrusion detection system that is additionally enhanced using a Q-learning-based Whale Optimization Algorithm is being used to make the system more precise and efficient in adapting to the dynamic IoT environment. A complete set of simulations was performed with Python to ensure the efficiency of our proposed solution. This evaluation report shows that our approach is more resistant to the routing attacks, and, moreover, it surpasses the existing model in both security and functionality. Investigating behavioral patterns of procrastinators in a Wiki-based activity
No full textProcrastination is one of the issues affecting more than half of the student population and is known to impact them negatively. It is also one of the major reasons for failure and dropout. Therefore, several studies have been conducted in this domain to understand when and why students procrastinate. The existing studies use self-reported procrastination scales and/or digital traces of student interactions recorded in learning environments to identify procrastination behavior. The majority of the extant studies leverage individual tasks such as assignments submission, quizzes attempted, course materials assessed by a student, etc., to study such behavior.This paper uses group-based collaborative wiki activity to explore the procrastination behavior among the students. This study will help us explore student behavior in a group activity. The results would help us investigate if the student’s behavior changes when it comes to a group activity. Impact of involvement in mental health professional education on patient educators: a qualitative systematic review
No full textObjectives. Patient involvement in mental health professional education is required by policy but lacks a robust evidence base. The impact of involvement in education on patients with mental health conditions may differ from that of patients with other conditions. This study aims to review the impact of involvement in mental health professional education on the patients with mental health conditions involved.Setting. Electronic databases MEDLINE, PubMed, AMED, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Emcare, BNI, HMIC and CINAHL were systematically searched to find articles reporting on health professional teaching interventions involving patients with mental health conditions and the psychological, social or physical impact of involvement. The search took place in August 2023.Results. Findings from 20 articles were amalgamated into four synthesised findings: (1) Impact of general involvement (2) impact of making a difference through teaching, (3) impact of new relationships and (4) impact of talking about experiences.Conclusions. Patient involvement in mental health professional education can be beneficial for patients with mental health conditions when their experiences are respected and valued as expertise by students and academic staff. The experiences of patient educators in the mental health field are unique in that teaching activities interact with their mental health. Future research should evaluate patient involvement in the mental health field separately and report research findings according to reporting guidelines
Contextualising entrepreneurship: a call for more African research
No full textEntrepreneurship is a prominent area of inquiry which is enriched by an ample literature base and challenged by definitional deficiencies. Over the years, multiple perspectives of entrepreneurship have emerged and a holistic approach to entrepreneurship has been proposed.This can facilitate the continued enlargement of the entrepreneurship field and allow for interdisciplinary research within the African region.This chapter contributes to the literature on entrepreneurship in developing economies by providing an extensive review of the various approaches that entrepreneurship has been conceptualised. Nine themes are explored: the great person, economic perspective, psychological perspective, sociological perspective, behavioural perspective, management, intrapreneurship, cognitive perspective, and leadership perspective. This is followed by an examination of entrepreneurship as a process, as a new venture creation, and as an art of opportunity recognition and exploitation. Balancing family, education and work: a qualitative study of mature women studying in higher education
No full textThis article explores the transformative experiences of ten mature, female, widening participation students, and their families, as they merged higher education (HE) study into the home to manage diverse demands. Set in a university in Northwest England, this smallscale, qualitative approach, influenced by social constructionism and feminism, incorporated semi-structured interviews (10) and a focus group. It explores experiences of work-life balance (WLB) and wellbeing as HE study was added to daily life and merged into the home sphere. The findings reveal the benefits of home-based study and work-based learning for mature learners with varied responsibilities. The women developed academically and practically, and transformed as they experienced university life to gain an increased sense of belonging, which normalised university attendance in households, a change here referred to as the 'learning family'
Multivariate time series forecasting of municipal solid waste
No full textMunicipal solid waste is a major concern these days. With industrialization and urbanization, the amount of solid waste being generated has significantly increased over the years. This waste is mostly disposed to landfills and only a proportion of it is recycled. The waste on landfills has detrimental effects on health. Hence, it is important for the government to take appropriate measures by having enough recycling sites for regular treatment of solid waste. However, setting up of recycling units requires investment. Therefore, it is important to forecast waste that will be generated in coming years and at the same time predict the amount of waste that will be recycled. If the current recycling units are inadequate to handle the future quantities of waste generation, then probably more such units can be set up. Thus, this requires better forecasting of solid waste that will be generated and recycled. This study uses time series data to forecast waste generation and recycling. The study uses statistical models ARIMAX and machine learning models such as random forest, support vector regression, XGBoost for forecasting. The study also builds hybrid models by combining these models to find a model that provides higher accuracy, low error rate and thus better prediction

Monitoring the progress of countries towards achieving these pretensions is pivotal for sustainable development. This exploration paper offers an innovative stance toward foretelling the SDG Index of Indian states for the near future times using machine learning ways, logical and visualization tools. The paper focuses on India's sweats towards achieving the SDGs and investigates the factors impacting the SDG performance of individual Indians states . A comprehensive dataset is collected, encompassing a wide range of socio-profitable pointers, demographic data, and environmental criteria applicable to each SDG target. Literal SDG Index scores and corresponding state-specific data are collected to assay and find some trends. The study demonstrates the eventuality of vaticination ways in vaticinating the unborn SDG Index scores of Indian states . The time series graph showcases varying degrees of delicacy across different SDGs , indicating the complexity and diversity of experimental challenges
