What Lies Beneath? Exploring the challenges of Authentic Leaders within the Oil Industry
This developmental paper sets out the rationale and design for a study exploring the challenges of authentic leadership within Nigeria’s oil sector, a key driver of Africa’s largest economy. While authentic leadership has gained prominence as a corrective to ethical failings and declining trust in leadership, the construct remains conceptually fragmented, normatively framed, and predominantly shaped by Western contexts. Such framing risks overlooking the lived realities of leaders in developing economies, where socio political, regulatory uncertainty, and ethical tensions influence leadership practice.The study proposes a phenomenological approach underpinned by interpretivism to capture leaders lived experiences in this complex setting. Authentic leaders will be identified through follower nominations, ensuring that authenticity reflects recognition by subordinates rather than self-assertion. Semi structured interviews will provide rich qualitative data, with analysis following a systematic coding process to surface both explicit accounts and underlying meanings. Reflexivity, member checking, and peer debriefing are planned to enhance transparency and rigour

Navigating In Complexity and Chaos: A Complex Adaptive Leadership Approach
Facing escalating volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), new paradigms that embrace systemic dynamism are needed to address leadership perspectives. This paper posits Complex Adaptive Leadership (CAL) as a viable theoretical framework to address the dynamism which the VUCA environment demands. Tracing its evolution from complexity theory to contemporary applications. the study argues that CAL’s emphasis on flexibility, decentralized decision-making, and emergent innovation equips organisations to thrive in chaos. Alternative perspectives, including critiques of competing models, are examined to present a balanced discourse. The study concludes with implications for practice and future research, advocating for CAL’s integration into modern leadership perspectives
Supporting HEI academics: the strategic role of service user and carer involvement in teaching and learning
Service User and Carer Involvement (SUCI) in Health and Social Care education is increasingly recognised as a core component in health professional education. Numerous UK Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies (PSRB) mandate that SUCI should be central to health professional education but there is no agreed framework for HEI academics to develop and establish their SUCI strategy to meet local institutional needs. Consequently, embedding meaningful engagement remains challenging for many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). A series of ongoing webinars, designed to equip academic staff with the knowledge, confidence and tools to incorporate SUCI voices into their teaching practice is ongoing as a national webinar series. The webinars have proved to be instrumental in promoting an expanding culture of collaboration and engagement across multiple HEIs. The session aims to address the challenges faced by HEIs in embedding meaningful SUCI in health and social care education. Recognising SUCI as a crucial element. It will explore a collaborative initiative among three HEIs that are sharing and learning from best practices to integrate authentic SUCI involvement into their educational strategies. The goal is to ensure that students have meaningful learning opportunities that incorporate the voices and experiences of service users and carers. It will offer practical insights into designing flexible frameworks and standards to promote meaningful engagement, enhancing the educational experience for students and making it more relevant to realworld health and social care scenarios. This development aligns with the priorities in The Vancouver Statement 2015 (Towle et al 2016)The conference is international and interprofessional in scope. Sustainable Leadership in the Nigeria Hospitality Sector: A Multi-Level Competence Model Approach
This study will explore sustainable leadership in the hotel industry of Nigeria through a multi-level competency model approach. Financial restrictions, knowledge gaps, and different managerial competencies make it difficult for Nigerian hotels to incorporate sustainable practices as sustainability becomes a major concern of leadership. This study intends to pinpoint important sustainable leadership competencies at the top, middle, and lower management levels, thereby addressing adoption challenges and offering a structure for successful application. This qualitative study will examine 35 hospitality industry participants. Purposive sampling will ensure sector role diversity. Semi-structured interviews will allow for thorough discussions while maintaining flexibility. The interviews will be recorded and transcribed for research. Thematic analysis will identify, assess, and summarise data themes to provide a complete understanding. This study will provide insightful analysis for legislators, hotel managers, and stakeholders in improving sustainable leadership practices utilizing a multi-level competency model. The results will help to close the knowledge-application gap in competencies challenges faced by the tier of management in hospitality industries
The Need for Sustainable Leadership in Africa: A Systematic Literature Review
Africa needs sustainable leadership to confront its unique challenges and capitalise on its potential. Thus, this chapter presents African leadership instances from diverse fields. This study aims to analyse the need for sustainable leadership in Africa using a systematic literature review. The PRISMA approach was adopted to perform the literature review. This was accomplished by looking through peer-reviewed databases, such as JSTOR, ProQuest and African Journals Online (AJOL), for manuscripts to find relevant data unique to the African context. After a thorough search, studies that did not meet the study’s objective were removed from consideration throughout the review phase. In light of this, the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklist was used to ensure that the publications chosen for this review were evaluated for quality assessment and bias minimisation. The systematic literature review identified grey areas from previous studies on socioeconomic development through infrastructure projects, inclusive governance, entrepreneurship, inequality reduction, human development and terms of employment for sustainable leadership in Africa
The efficacy of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) versus aerobic exercise in the early stage of Parkinson’s Disease: A Systematic Review
Purpose Exercise is shown to be effective in Parkinson’s Disease (PD), but there is still controversy over which type of exercise is most effective. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) versus aerobic training in motor and non-motor symptoms in PD. Materials and Methods A literature search was performed since February 2024 to July 2025 in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Discovery @Bolton, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, PubMed, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus. Data extracted by a single reviewer and cross checked by another. The risk of bias was assessed using the Revised Cochrane risk of bias tool, and quality of reporting was assessed using the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TiDieR) checklist. Results The search yielded 9 studies involving a total of 263 people with PD in the early stages. The results from the risk of bias showed that 88.8% of studies were judged to be of moderate to high quality. The completeness of intervention reporting showed overall moderate (66.1%) quality of reporting. Conclusion HIIT showed improvement in physiological, cognitive, and overall quality of life (QoL) outcomes when compared to aerobic exercise. HIIT also showed significant improvement in cognitive function. PROSPERO Registration Number : CRD42023478541, 02 November 2023
Artificial Intelligence Policies for Higher Education: Manifesto for Critical Considerations and a Roadmap
This paper investigates the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) technology and educational policy in higher education, highlighting key research and implementation. The paper focuses on critical considerations for AI policy development with a view to producing a roadmap focused on contextual higher education AI policies. The rapid development of AI presents both significant opportunities and challenges for higher education institutions in Europe and globally. As AI technologies become ubiquitous, integrated into teaching, learning, and administrative functions, it is essential to identify critical considerations at the core of the AI integration process, namely: (1) regulatory framework, (2) stakeholder-specific guidelines, (3) AIED research, and (4) AI literacy. As a starting point, the paper presents a review of existing AI policy frameworks within higher education, drawing on recent empirical research, identifying four design and implementation priorities for higher education stakeholders aiming to create responsible AI governance frameworks. As a result, we propose a roadmap designed to be used as strategic planning instrument for higher education stakeholders developing AI policies and guidance. In proposing a strategic roadmap for AI policy development, the work offers valuable insight into how higher education can effectively leverage the potential of AI whilst ensuring ethical considerations, equity, and maintaining academic integrity. Additionally, the paper contributes to the ongoing discourse regarding AI’s role in higher education in proposing research pathways that will benefit all stakeholders involved in the academic ecosystem
Resource orchestration in Indian ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises through generation change in Malaysia
Ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises are continuously evolving, especially when generations change. As these changes take place, resources are also orchestrated differently. However, research gap exists on how resources are orchestrated in ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises through generational change. We answer this question by adopting a qualitative approach based on data from eleven ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises that have experienced generational succession. The data was then analysed by adopting a novel approach of artificial intelligence. Our results suggest that the orchestration in class and ethnic resources has equipped the later generation ethnic entrepreneurs with capabilities to expand and develop their ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises. We emphasize the importance of orchestrating resources in ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises for product innovation, market growth and business development as generations change. The use of artificial intelligence technique enables underlying patterns in ethnic entrepreneurship to be discovered, which assist practitioners in making the best decisions concerning entrepreneurial efforts. This study invites entrepreneurs to comprehend the importance of orchestrating resources for entrepreneurial decision-making in business expansion and development, especially in ethnic entrepreneurial enterprises. With novelty in the methodological application, we extend a cordial invitation to erudite scholars to apply artificial intelligence technique within qualitative research to achieve precision and nuances
