Multi-Operator Spectrum Sharing Models under Different Cooperation Schemes for Next Generation Cellular Networks

    No full text
Spectrum sharing between operators with exclusive licensing have become a major concern for mobile network operators and regulators to respond to the growing spectrum demand of the multimedia applications. One of the important issues in spectrum sharing is to determine the potential benefit when multi-operators share the resources under certain mutual agreements. The paper focuses on dynamic spectrum sharing management in next generation cellular networks. We propose three loss network models and derive the closed form expression of blocking probability, each having specific level of cooperation and interaction. The analytical frameworks are presented to analyze the benefits due to multi-operator cooperation for spectrum sharing. This quantifies the operators' gains and degradations of operators engaged in cooperative arrangements. We also analyze the overall network performance in terms of spectrum utilization and present a detailed comparisons between the proposed analytical frameworks

Role of attitudes in Brazil's country brand image

    No full text
For the past three decades, the academic community has sought to advance the analysis relating to the image of several countries around the world. However, despite the importance of the theory of attitude in evaluating the image of a country, the majority of papers in the field has focused on the cognitive component of attitude only, having the other components, affective and conative, not thoroughly being examined. The purpose of this paper is to investigate Brazil's country brand image, based on the three-attitudinal categories 'cognitive', 'affective', and 'conative'. The study population consisted of the 427 undergraduate students at foreign institutions partaking agreements with a Brazilian public university. Attitudes were analysed using exploratory factor analysis to correlate potential impact on Brazils' country brand image. Results of this study indicate that the conative dimension received the highest scores of the respondents implying strong behavioural intentions in relation to Brazil's country brand image

Cheshire Wirral Partnership - Research Conference

The presentation, experiential workshop and exhibition for 100 health practitioners took place at an annual event which shares good practice across the Cheshire Wirral Partnership (CWP) NHS Trust. The highly innovative ComMA research programme was nominated by CWP for a recognition award and shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution to Research Development and Innovation. The presentation and experiential workshop explained how patients and artists together explored sexual problems encountered following cancer treatment. This novel and highly collaborative approach empowered patients to use art and new forms of artistic expression as an alternative language to express and communicate their feelings of emotional and physical trauma using visual metaphors. ComMA enabled patients to explore and express their feelings through the use of collage and drawing on items such as gowns, which had a deep meaning in the context of their treatment, to enable them to express their feelings and to seek appropriate support. Work co-produced by the artists and patients was shared at the workshop to allow health professionals to understand these issues from a patient’s perspective

From Gastarbeiter to European Expatriates: Greek Migrant Communities in Germany and their Socio-political Integration before and after 1992 Maastricht Treaty on European Union

    No full text
This interdisciplinary thesis compares two different intra-European immigration policies and regimes regarding the Greek migrant communities of Germany; that of the guest-worker recruitment, a result of international bilateral agreements between West Germany and Greece, and that of European expatriation, a bloc actor policy that transformed the previous migratory framework and its results immensely. The former policy was very popular during the years of European Unification and the pre-Maastricht era of European integration, while the latter became the norm in the post-Maastricht era of Europeanisation and the integration of the European Union. By extension, this research engages in the comparison of two different ages of European Unification, via employing interdisciplinary methodological approaches and theoretical frameworks. The empirical examination of the Greek Diaspora and its communities in Germany was instrumental in unearthing the emergent patterns, which demonstrate that the construction of a common European identity, contributed significantly to the socio-political integration of Greeks in the country. In that respect, the processes of Europeanisation and European Integration have demonstrably been decisive in the inclusion and integration of European nationals in their host state, particularly those who migrated under previous regimes, such as that of the Gastarbeiter, which constitutes a paradigm shift. At the same time, this thesis examines the role that the social and cultural background of Greek migrants has played, as a variable of integration. Greeks have a long diasporic history and tradition and are among the very few ethnicities that encompass and demonstrate significant examples of all types of classification concerning Diasporas, as well as non-static diasporic typologies, as in many cases their diasporic communities have undergone multiple transformations within the context of a constantly under-construction collective identity process

Text Mining Approach to Extract Associations Between Obesity and Arabic Herbal Plants

    No full text
Historical information on herbal medicines is underexploited and this is particularly true of the important resources of Arabic herbal medicines. Current research into Arabic medicinal plants as alternative medicine is limited and there is a lack of accurate translations and interpretations of herbal medicine texts. This research focuses on an investigation of Arabic herbal medicinal plants in relation to the problem of obesity. This paper demonstrates how text mining can help extract relevant concepts associated with Arabic herbal plants and obesity in order to discover associations between the herbal medicinal ingredients and obesity symptoms

The First Marx: A Philosophical Introduction

    No full text
Marx's early work is well known and widely available, but it usually interpreted as at best a kind of stepping-stone to the Marx of Capital. This book offers something completely different; it reconstructs, from his first writings spanning from 1835 to 1846, a coherent and well-rounded political philosophy. The influence of Engels upon the development of that philosophy is discussed. This, it is argued, was a philosophy that Marx could have presented had he put the ideas together, as he hinted was his eventual intention. Had he done so, this first Marx would have made an even greater contribution to social and political philosophy than is generally acknowledged today. Arguments regarding revolutionary change, contradiction and other topics such as production, alienation and emancipation contribute to a powerful analysis in the early works of Marx, one which is worthy of discussion on its own merits. This analysis is distributed among a range of books, papers, letters and other writings, and is gathered here for the first time. Marx's work of the period was driven by his commitment to emancipation. Moreover, as is discussed in the conclusion to this book, his emancipatory philosophy continues to have resonance today. This new book presents Marx in a unique, new light and will be indispensable reading for all studying and following his work

The effect of toe flexion exercises on grip

    No full text
Background Weakness of the toe flexor muscles have been previously attributed to the development of toe pathologies which respond well in clinic to toe grip exercises. However, it is not known if exercising the toe flexor muscles improves the ability to grip and alter function. The aim of this study therefore is to assess the effect of toe flexor exercises on apical plantar pressure, as a measure of grip, whilst seated and also during gait. Methods Twenty three healthy participants with no known toe pathologies were recruited. Static peak pressure, time spent at peak pressure and pressure time integral whilst seated, as well as dynamic forefoot maximal force, contact area and percentage contact time were recorded pre and post exercise. Toe grip exercises with a therapy ball were completed daily over a six week period. Results Static peak pressure significantly increased after exercise on the apex of the 2nd and 3rd digit as did the pressure time integral. Dynamic peak force and contact area did not alter after exercise around the metatarsals and toes yet percentage contact time significantly increased for each metatarsal after completing daily toe grip exercises. Conclusion Exercises to improve the grip ability of the toes increased the static peak pressure on the apex of the 2nd and 3rd digit as well as the percentage contact time of the metatarsals during gait. The ability to increase apical peak pressure as well as contact time after exercises could assist in improving stability of the forefoot improving the efficiency of gait and reducing the progression of toe pathologies
