"December 10, 2010."The Nearctic genera Orectoderus Uhler, Pronotocrepis Knight, and Teleorhinus Uhler are revised. One new species from Texas, Teleorhinus crataegi, sp. nov., is described. Teleorhinus oregoni Knight, 1968 is transferred to Orectoderus Uhler. The following new synonyms are proposed (senior synonym first): O. arcuatus Knight = O. schuhi Knight; O. montanus Knight = O. utahensis Knight, O. salicis Knight, and O. cockerelli Knight; O. obliquus Uhler = O. ruckesi Knight; P. clavicornis Knight = P. ribesi Knight and P. ruber Knight; T. cyaneus Uhler = T. brindleyi Knight and T. nigricornis Knight; T. tephrosicola Knight = T. floridanus Blatchley and T. utahensis Knight; O. bakeri Knight = T. oregoni Knight Orectoderus and Teleorhinus are transferred from the Hallodapini Van Duzee to the Pronotocrepini Knight. The Palearctic genus Ethelastia Reuter, 1876, is reviewed and transferred from the Phylini to the Pronotocrepini. Includes bibliographical references (p. 47-52).The Clements site (41CS25) is a late 17th- to early 18th-century Nasoni Caddo settlement and cemetery on Black Bayou in the northeastern Texas Pineywoods. The site was found and excavated in about 1898 by a local landowner, who sold the collection to the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in 1900. This long-forgotten collection was brought to the attention of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma as part of consultation between the Caddo and the AMNH through a Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act grant, and then studied in detail in 2004 by the Caddo and Archeological & Environmental Consultants, LLC. This report, the product of collaboration between the Caddo Nation, professional archaeologists who work with the Caddo, the AMNH, and the National Park Service, discusses the character and archaeological significance of the diverse funerary objects placed with the dead in this Nasoni Caddo cemetery.

The braincase of Apatosaurus (Dinosauria, Sauropoda) based on computed tomography of a new specimen, with comments on variation and evolution in sauropod neuroanatomy. (American Museum novitates, no. 3677)

Includes bibliographical references (p. 26-29).We describe a previously unreported braincase of the sauropod dinosaur Apatosaurus from the Cactus Park Quarry, Morrison Formation of western Colorado using high-resolution X-ray computed tomography. The digital nature of these data allowed us to prepare and describe the first three-dimensional rendering of the endocranial space in this historically important dinosaur species. Results are compared with a range of taxa drawn from across the sauropod tree revealing previously underappreciated variation in the sauropod neurocranium. Examples of variable characters include the degree of cerebral and pontine flexure, the morphology of the parietal body and superior sagittal sinus and their relationship with the overlying dermal roof, and the conformation of several cranial nerve foramina. We provide preliminary evolutionary hypotheses and discussion for many of these features. The recognition that considerable variation is present in the sauropod neurocranium hopefully will encourage more detailed descriptions of this anatomically complex region, as well as facilitating a synthetic review of the sauropodomorph braincase as these descriptions become available

(Kazakhstan), S. salsolae, n. sp. (Mongolia), and S. kerzhneri, n. sp. (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan). The generic name Solenoxyphus Reuter, 1875 is synonymized with Leucopterum Reuter, 1879. The following new synonymies are established: L. candidatum (Reuter, 1879) = L. longicolle (Reuter, 1879), S. lepidus (Puton, 1874) = S. minor Wagner, 1969, and S. alkani Önder, 1975 = S. markevichi Putshkov, 1978. S. adspersus (Reuter, 1904) is removed from synonymy and considered a valid species

Includes bibliographical references (p. 18-19).We report the discovery of a new species of doglike bat (Peropteryx) from the lowland Amazonian forests of Ecuador and Peru. It has transparent wing membranes that are faintly tinged brown with pale-brown arms and digits; ears that are separated on the forehead; and a skull with small, shallow pterygoid pits that are anterolateral to an undivided basisphenoid pit and that are separated by a mesopterygoid extension. These characters distinguish the new species from morphologically similar species with which it was previously confused (P. leucoptera and P. macrotis). A molecular phylogenetic analysis of unlinked loci from each of the four genetic transmission systems of mammals (mitochondrial, nuclear-autosomal, X, and Y chromosomes) independently corroborated the placement of the new species as the sister taxon to a clade that includes P. kappleri, P. macrotis, and P. trinitatis; the basal lineage for the genus is P. leucoptera. This phylogeny suggests that transparent wings (sometimes described as "white" but actually lacking pigment), the traditional character used to diagnose Peronymus, is not a unique synapomorphy. Furthermore, based on a molecular dating analysis, the depth of divergence of Peropteryx is equivalent to that of another New World emballonurid genus (Balantiopteryx). Therefore, Peronymus does not warrant higher-level recognition as a subgenus or genus

"June 25, 2010."We review the taxonomy of the Hadruroides Pocock, 1893 (Iuridae: Caraboctoninae), scorpions of Peru, describe six new species from the north of the country, and report new records of other poorly known species. The description of these species raises to 16 the number of described species in the genus, 13 of which occur in Peru. Four species inhabit dry forest in northern Peru: H. charcasus (Karsch, 1879); H. chinchaysuyu, n. sp.; H. geckoi, n. sp.; H. leopardus Pocock, 1900. Three species occur in inter-Andean valleys along the Cordillera: H. bustamantei Ochoa and Chaparro, 2008; H. carinatus Pocock, 1900; H. mauryi Francke and Soleglad, 1980. Six species inhabit desert along the Pacific coast: H. aguilari Francke and Soleglad, 1980; H. graceae, n. sp.; H. juanchaparroi, n. sp.; H. lunatus (L. Koch, 1867); H. tishqu, n. sp.; H. vichayitos, n. sp. Most species of Hadruroides have restricted distributions, except H. charcasus and H. lunatus, which are apparently more widely distributed. We consider it necessary to reassess all previous records of the latter two species, because we suspect several are based on misidentifications

"Issued December 16, 2010."The paederine subtribe Procirrina is redescribed, the morphology, phylogenetic relationships, and distribution are discussed, and a key to the eight genera is presented. In the section on morphology, the female genital sclerites are discussed and terms are proposed for the fused sclerites. Neoprocirrus, Oedichirus, Oedodactylus, Palaminus, Paraprocirrus, Procirrus, and Pseudoprocirrus are redescribed and a list of the included species and examined species is included for each. Stylokyrtus, new genus, is described for Oedodactylus errans Sharp, 1876, new combination. Parapalaminus Bierig, 1943, Procirrinus Koch, 1934, and Oedichiranus Reitter, 1906, described as subgenera, are new synonyms of Palaminus, Procirrus, and Oedichirus respectively. The sister group of Procirrina is Pinophilina. The basal genus of the Procirrina is Oedodactylus; Pseudoprocirrus is the sister group to the remainder of the genera, which are clustered in two clades. Palaminus + Oedichirus comprise one of the two clades with Paraprocirrus and Procirrus + Neoprocirrus as its sister. As Stylokyrtus is known by only one specimen, most of the characters important to phylogenetic placement of the genus were unavailable for study and its position within the subtribe is ambiguous
AMNH type specimens of birds.
178 p. : 1 ill. ; 26 cm.This eighth part of "Type specimens of birds in the American Museum of Natural History" includes taxa covered in volume 12 of the Check-list of birds of the world (Paynter, 1967) except for the families Zosteropidae and Meliphagidae, which will comprise a separate part. The original description of each form has been consulted unless otherwise noted, coordinates for type localities are given when possible, currently accepted names for the taxa included, and comments on taxonomic history provided. In all, 419 names are treated, five of these being replacement names; 102 of them were introduced by G.M. Mathews. Types of 12 of these names are not in AMNH or were not found. Four paratypes are discussed, the holotypes of which were almost certainly destroyed in World War II. Includes bibliographical references (p. 48-50).Abundant, exceptionally well-preserved cranial material of the zygomaturine diprotodontid Nimbadon lavarackorum is described from AL90 site, a middle Miocene deposit in the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, Queensland, Australia. The material has enabled a comprehensive assessment of the expected level of morphological variation within a fossil marsupial species from a single locality, thus forming a benchmark for determining species boundaries in extinct marsupials. Variation is assessed by quantitative and qualitative means. Univariate analyses of N. lavarackorum cranial and dental dimensions indicate low coefficients of variation consistent with expected values for single species populations. Conversely, qualitative analyses indicate high levels of morphological variation, particularly in structures previously deemed phylogenetically significant, such as the upper third premolar. Some cranial variation may be due to sexual dimorphism or ontogeny but there appears to be a high degree of intraspecific morphological variation. Features once regarded to distinguish N. whitelawi from the type species fall within the boundaries of that intraspecific variation and N. whitelawi is herein regarded as a junior synonym of N. lavarackorum. Comparison with morphological variation in the Miocene diprotodontid Neohelos stirtoni suggests that N. lavarackorum was a less variable species overall, reflecting differences between the taxa in body size, home range, and habitat preference and stability. Nimbadon lavarackorum was a relatively small (75-120 kg), possibly gregarious browsing species probably restricted to closed-forest habitats
