    Aim: To describe the role of Executive Nurse Leaders (ENLs) in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. Method: A qualitative descriptive study with an ethnographic approach and direct qualitative content analysis was designed. Twenty-five semi-structured interviews were conducted with ENLs who held senior management positions in one of the two management areas: autonomous health policy and healthcare organisation. The study includes the following executive roles: Chief Nurse Executive in autonomous government policy, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Nurse Officer, and Assistant Chief Nurse Officer in healthcare organisations. The sample includes most autonomous communities in Spain. Results: Four themes and seven subthemes were identified. Theme 1. Health crisis: Negative outlook on the situation despite the new opportunities made possible by the pandemic. Theme 2. Action areas: The ENLs were involved in areas of management: autonomous policy, healthcare organisation and shared areas. Theme 3. Accompanying patients: Widespread criticism of visitation bans and the nurses’ response to the restrictions. Theme 4. Communication: Characteristics’ communication description, information management and communication strategies towards staff or the public. Conclusions: The results demonstrate the vital role that ENLs played in managing the response to the pandemic. In the context studied, the interviewees’ scope and degree of participation differed in each autonomous community. Understanding the role of ENLs helps respond to major healthcare challenges, raises their leadership visibility and facilitates social and institutional recognition. Advocating for the involvement of ENLs at the executive levels studied will help to improve the country’s preparedness for future health crises.Objetivo: Describir el rol de los/as Directivos/as de Enfermería de Nivel Ejecutivo (DENE) en la respuesta a la pandemia de COVID-19 en España. Método: Estudio descriptivo cualitativo con enfoque etnográfico y análisis directo de contenido cualitativo. Se realizaron veinticinco entrevistas semiestructuradas a DENE que ocuparon un alto cargo en una de las áreas de gestión establecidas: política autonómica sanitaria u organización sanitaria. Se incluyen: Cargo directivo de enfermería en el gobierno autonómico, Dirección gerencia, Dirección y Subdirección de enfermería en instituciones sanitarias. La muestra incluye la mayoría de las comunidades autónomas españolas. Resultados: Se identificaron cuatro temas y siete subtemas. Tema 1. Crisis sanitaria: Perspectiva negativa de la situación y en contraposición las nuevas oportunidades que posibilitó la pandemia. Tema 2. Ámbitos de actuación: Áreas de gestión donde participaron los/as DENE de ámbito político autonómico, ámbito organizativo asistencial y las áreas compartidas. Tema 3. Acompañamiento a los pacientes: crítica generalizada a la prohibición de visitas y la respuesta enfermera a la restricción. Tema 4. Comunicación: Características de la comunicación, gestión de la información y las estrategias comunicativas hacia el personal o la población. Conclusiones: Los resultados demuestran el papel crucial que los/as DENE desempeñaron en la gestión de la respuesta a la pandemia. En el contexto estudiado, el ámbito y grado de participación de los/as entrevistados/as difiere en función de la comunidad autónoma. Conocer el rol de los/as DENE ayuda a dar respuesta a los grandes retos asistenciales, visibiliza su liderazgo y posibilita su reconocimiento social e institucional.     MIL-101-DIST/g-C3N4/Ni a new nano-photocatalyst for nitrobenzene photo-reduction via in-situ hydrogen generation from water splitting

    A new nano-photocatalyst (MIL-101-DIST/g-C3N4/Ni) was designed to combine the unique properties of a modified metal–organic framework (a crystalline porous semiconductor with large surface area and tunable properties), g-C3N4 (a polymeric semiconductor with excellent photocatalytic properties), and nickel nanoparticles (which can enhance catalytic activity and facilitate charge transfer). Synthesis of MIL-101-DIST/g-C3N4/Ni was successfully performed and the structure, morphology and optical properties of the nanocomposite were confirmed by diverse methods such as FT-IR, PXRD, XPS, FESEM, TEM, TGA, ICP, EDX, elemental mapping, UV–vis DRS, BET, Mott–Schottky, EIS and PL. It was found by UV–vis DRS that MIL-101-DIST/g-C3N4/Ni has greater photo-absorption characteristic compared with its precursors. The synergistic interaction between the composite components creates a highly efficient photocatalytic activity for nitrobenzene photo-reduction by in-situ hydrogen generation from water splitting at room temperature under sunlight irradiation via a Z-scheme charge transfer pathway.     Este capítulo analiza el impacto crítico del síndrome de burnout y los trastornos musculoesqueléticos (TME) en el personal de enfermería, identificándolos como los principales desafíos para la salud laboral en el sector sanitario contemporáneo. El estudio subraya cómo la carga física y el estrés emocional crónico comprometen no solo el bienestar del profesional, sino también la calidad del cuidado al paciente. La investigación propone un cambio de paradigma en la prevención de riesgos laborales mediante la integración de tecnologías emergentes. Específicamente, se examina el rol transformador de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) y la Realidad Extendida (XR) —que engloba la realidad virtual, aumentada y mixta— como herramientas clave para la formación ergonómica, el entrenamiento en entornos seguros y la detección precoz de riesgos. El trabajo concluye que la implementación de estas soluciones tecnológicas permite una intervención personalizada y eficaz, reduciendo la incidencia de lesiones y el agotamiento psicológico. Esta publicación se encuentra avalada por un comité editorial de especialistas y está indexada en bases de datos como Dialnet, destacando por su rigor científico y su enfoque en la innovación dentro del ejercicio profesional de la salud.This chapter analyzes the critical impact of burnout syndrome and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among nursing staff, identifying them as the primary occupational health challenges in the contemporary healthcare sector. The study highlights how physical demands and chronic emotional stress compromise not only the professional's well-being but also the quality of patient care. The research proposes a paradigm shift in occupational risk prevention through the integration of emerging technologies. Specifically, it examines the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR)—encompassing virtual, augmented, and mixed reality—as key tools for ergonomic training, simulation in safe environments, and early risk detection. The work concludes that implementing these technological solutions allows for personalized and effective intervention, reducing the incidence of injuries and psychological exhaustion. This publication is endorsed by an editorial committee of specialists and is indexed in scientific databases such as Dialnet, standing out for its scientific rigor and its focus on innovation within the professional practice of health

    A finales de noviembre de 1783, intensas precipitaciones de alta intensidad horaria provocaron el desbordamiento del río Turia e inundaciones en Valencia y su huerta. En diciembre se repetirían, de nuevo, en dos ocasiones más. Hubo destrucción de edificios, acequias, molinos y vías de comunicación. Auxiliar a los vecinos, vigilar la altura que alcanzaban las aguas, evitar la ruina de casas, almacenes y tiendas y gestionar la información fueron objetivos prioritarios del corregidor de la ciudad, además de garantizar el abastecimiento diario de pan. Este estudio analiza las circunstancias que rodearon el suceso, el contexto climático en el que tuvieron lugar las tres riadas sucesivas del Turia, el impacto del desastre, las disposiciones adoptadas por las autoridades desde los primeros momentos, su eficacia y el seguimiento que, de todo ello, se hizo desde las diferentes instituciones.In late November 1783, heavy rainfall of high hourly intensity caused the Turia River to overflow its banks, flooding Valencia and its huerta. In December, it occurred on two more occasions. The destruction encompassed buildings, irrigation ditches, mills, and roads. Helping the neighbours, monitoring the water level height, preventing the collapse of houses, warehouses and stores, and managing information were priority objectives of the town’s corregidor, in addition to ensuring the daily bread supply. The present study analyses the circumstances surrounding the event, the climatic context in which the three successive floods of the Turia took place, the impact of the disaster, the measures taken by the authorities in the immediate aftermath, their effectiveness, and the follow-up conducted by the different institutions.Este estudio forma parte de los resultados del proyecto PID2021-122988NB-I00, financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación del Gobierno de España, la Agencia Estatal de Investigación y la Unión Europea

    The Presence of Cultural References in Phraseological Units

    In this chapter, we focus on an exhaustive research in the database of Spanish frozen verbs constructions that we develop at the University of Alicante in order to determine expressions embodying cultural information. After that, we conduct an analysis of these frozen verbal constructions in order to see if we can establish a classification of this cultural information. This classification highlights that many of the phrases contain recurrent cultural information making reference to historical characters, Spanish mythology, geographical elements, religion, names, forenames and Spanish celebrations. We also include an analysis regarding the cultural references of the Latin American phraseological units

    Amazonian Indigenous resilience profile: a post-COVID perspective

    The research responds to the need to make visible the millenary practices in the Amazonian Indigenous communities of Ecuador, through their resilience factors, in the context of the pandemic caused by the SARS-Cov2 virus of the COVID-19. The instrument used to measure their resilience was the RESI*M, which was constructed in Mexico and validated in Indigenous women. The instrument includes 43 items grouped into five categories referring to individual empowerment strategies, social competence, family support, social support and community organisational structure. Ninety-six members of the Waorani, Shuar and Kichwa Indigenous peoples participated in the study, South American Indigenous people living in the Amazon region in Ecuadorian state territory. The participatory action technique was used in their own territories. The results of the research show the dialogues that emerged in the territorial context of the Amazonian Indigenous peoples, their cosmovision, and their capacity to take up their life projects based on the dynamism of their own protective factors and their historical memory

    La ‘Colección Litológica’ de la Real Academia de la Historia está formada por un conjunto de legajos que contienen fichas de inscripciones antiguas, medievales y modernas, reunidas por la Academia entre 1750 y 1803, aunque hay algunas aportaciones posteriores. Fue uno de los grandes proyectos culturales de la España de la Ilustración, en la segunda mitad del siglo xviii, pero por diversas razones no llegaron a publicarse los resultados. Más tarde, perdería su protagonismo frente a la iniciativa de Theodor Mommsen para la redacción del Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum.The ‘Colección Litológica’ of the Royal Academy of History is made up of a set of files that contain ancient, medieval and modern inscription cards, compiled by the Academy between 1750 and 1803, although there are some later contributions. It was one of the great cultural projects of the Spain of the Enlightenment, in the second half of the 18th century, but for various reasons the results were not published. Later, he would lose his prominence due to Theodor Mommsen’s initiative to write the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has launched the Guiding Principles of Responsible Chemistry, a framework that invites chemists, educators, and students to reflect not only on what chemistry can do, but also on what chemists should do to safeguard a livable, just, humane, and sustainable planet.
