Memory and exile in the work of Carmen Castellote

    No full text
This article explores the work of Carmen Castellote, a poet associated with the so-called «inherited exile», with the aim of highlighting and valuing her literary production. Based on her books Kilómetros de tiempo (2022), Cartas a mí misma (2022) and Clamor de aldabas (2022), the study examines the various paths through which the author articulates her search for identity, profoundly marked by uprooting and the feeling of foreignness. The study emphasizes the importance of her writing as a form of resistance against oblivion, a space where her identity is constructed in dialogue with collectivity, childhood memory, and the symbolic construction of space. Castellote’s voice is situated at the intersection of personal history and collective memory, thereby enriching the body of literature of the Spanish Republican exile

CHIRLA: Comprehensive High-resolution Identification and Re-identification for Large-scale Analysis

    No full text
Person re-identification (Re-ID) is a key challenge in computer vision, requiring the matching of individuals across cameras, locations, and time. While most research focuses on short-term scenarios with minimal appearance changes, real-world applications demand robust systems that handle long-term variations caused by clothing and physical changes. We present CHIRLA, Comprehensive High-resolution Identification and Re-identification for Large-scale Analysis, a novel dataset designed for video-based long-term person Re-ID. CHIRLA was recorded over seven months in four connected indoor environments using seven strategically placed cameras, capturing realistic movements with substantial clothing and appearance variability. The dataset includes 22 individuals, more than five hours of video, and about 1M bounding boxes with identity annotations obtained through semi-automatic labeling. We also define benchmark protocols for person tracking and Re-ID, covering diverse and challenging scenarios such as occlusion, reappearance, and multi-camera conditions. By introducing this comprehensive benchmark, we aim to facilitate the development and evaluation of Re-ID algorithms that can reliably perform in challenging, long-term real-world scenarios. The benchmark code is publicly available at: https://github.com/bdager/CHIRLA.This paper is part of the grant PID2022-138453OB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”. Sex-based Differences in Alterations of Sexual Function and Relationship Adjustment in People With Multiple Sclerosis: A Cross-sectional Study

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease that manifests differently in men and women, including variations in clinical progression and symptoms. Despite the relevance of these differences, research exploring disparities in sexuality and relationships remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to identify differences between men and women in alterations in sexual function and relationship adjustment in a Spanish sample of people with MS. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted involving 208 adults recruited through 13 Spanish MS associations. An electronic form was used to collect sociodemographic and sexuality-related variables. The Multiple Sclerosis Intimacy and Sexuality Questionnaire-15 and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale-13 were also included in the data collection process. RESULTS: Men with MS reported greater concerns about sexually satisfying their partner (P < 0.001) and more frequent feelings of sexual insecurity (P = 0.001) than women. Differences in sexual function were also observed in physiological aspects, with erectile dysfunction being more prevalent in men than vaginal lubrication difficulties in women (P = 0.031). Regarding relationship adjustment, no significant differences were identified (P = 0.816). However, a significant correlation was found between relationship adjustment and alterations in sexual function in men (P = 0.038). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study point to meaningful differences between men and women with MS in how sexual function is experienced, with men reporting greater concerns related to both physiological (erectile dysfunction) and psychological (worries about satisfying their partner and insecurity) difficulties. Regarding relationship adjustment, overall levels were similar between groups; however, poorer sexual function was significantly associated with worse adjustment only among men. These specific differences should be taken into account when addressing sexuality in clinical care, as considering these disparities may contribute to more comprehensive, personalized, and effective interventions for people with MS

    No full text
Objective: To Analyze AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators (PSI) obtained through the Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS) in improving patient safety. Method: Observational descriptive and retroprective study. The CMBD hospital discharge registry of 342 hospitals of the National Health System was included. The MBDS indicators and analysis axes were from 2021 and the hospitalization MBDS information included the following general data: total discharges, average stay, average age and % mortality. Four patient safety indicators were analyzed: Pressure ulcers (PSI 03), Iatrogenic pneumothorax (PSI 06), Accidental puncture or tear in adults (PSI 15) and CVC-related to bloodstream infection (PSI 07). Results: The PSI 06 and PSI 07 categories not only have a higher number of discharges, but also a longer average stay and mortality. In comparison, PSI 03 and PSI 15 categories show a much lower number of discharges, and a lower mortality and average stay. Conditions associated with PSI 06 and PSI 07 categories could be more severe or complex, leading to a longer hospital stay and a higher risk of mortality. According to relative risk analyses, all indicators show a slightly higher mortality risk in men than in women. Conclusions: Advanced age and serious diagnoses, such as circulatory diseases or neoplasia, are associated with higher mortality and hospital stay. In relation to hospital size, smaller ones show higher risks and worse mortality outcomes. Therefore, these results could guide strategies to optimize resources and focus interventions on the most vulnerable groups

The impact of heteropatriarchy and support on grief in sexual minorities: A qualitative study

    No full text
Social support is a crucial element in the grieving process. However, in some social groups, such support may be absent or available only in a limited way. This would be the case for sexual minorities, who face prejudice, stigma, and rejection. The aim of this qualitative study is to explore the particularities of grief experienced by sexual minorities following the loss of a partner, using a Spanish sample. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with all participants. Qualitative results from 23 homosexual and bisexual people highlight the effects of heteropatriarchy on sexual minorities: gay men experience privileged status with visible partner relationships and widespread social support during grief, whereas lesbian women experience invisible relationships and instances of family and social rejection, leading to disenfranchized grief

    No full text
Background: The aim of study was to determine the influence of an experimental programme for grasping an effective swimming technique on the results of active swimming among youth swimmers at their initial stage of training. Methods: The subjects were 90 children of both sex aged 9–11 year and split into two groups: a) an experimental group (n = 45; girls: n = 18, boys: n = 27) that underwent the original programme and b) a controlled group (n = 45; girls: n = 18, boys: n = 27) that underwent a standard programme. The observation spanned 12 weeks, during which both groups had 24 training sessions. Swimming speed and effectiveness were assessed according to the following variants: A (full style), B (upper limbs), and C (lower limbs). Results: The intervention improved results for A (full style) among girls in the experimental group (F(2,68) = 6.37, p = 0.003; ηp2 = 0.16) and B (upper limbs) (F(2,68) = 7.78, p = 0. 001; ηp2 = 0.19). Among the boys in the experimental group, a trend towards significance (F(2,104) = 2.45, p = 0.091; ηp2 = 0.05) was observed regarding variant B. Regarding variant C (lower limbs), among girls, significant changes were noted in the relationship term*group (F(2,68) = 5.19, p = 0.008; ηp2 = 0.13) and in boys, among terms (F(2,104) = 8.71, p = 0.000; ηp2 = 0.14). No significant changes were noted in the control groups. Conclusions: The applied training improved performance in the experimental group, confirming the validity of introducing exercises to improve swimming technique at the initial stages of training. This study was supported by own founds as well as Cooperation with Sport Sciences—Biomedical and Rehabilitation Medicine and UNCE HUM32

    No full text
The use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in secondary education is transforming teaching practices and students' learning experiences. This study presents the design and validation of a questionnaire to assess the various educational uses of GAI by secondary school teachers. An initial pool of items was developed based on a comprehensive review of recent literature and validated through expert judgment. The preliminary version of the instrument was administered to a sample of 486 secondary school teachers in Spain. Confirmatory factor analyses supported a six-dimension structure: teacher management, creation of teaching materials, student assessment, student empowerment, attention to diversity, and student motivation. The questionnaire demonstrated high internal consistency and adequate convergent and discriminant validity. The results show that teachers use GAI both to optimize their professional performance and to enrich students' learning experiences. Practical implications of the instrument for teacher training, institutional decision-making, and future research directions are discussed. This work was supported by internal research funding from Universidad Europea (Spain), under the 2024 Internal Call for Research Project Funding
