I skärningspunkten mellan kropp och samhälle – Multipel skleros och funktionshinder

    No full text
The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate and analyze disability as a social problem concerning lack of social inclusion, in relation to persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). Study I of the thesis is a scoping review including a total of 96 articles, with most focusing on employment discrimination. Other areas examined included welfare and social services, transportation, home and public space accessibility, healthcare, and negative societal attitudes. Several knowledge gaps were identified. Study II examined the use of formal help, specifically personal assistance and home help. These forms of help were analyzed as binary variables using logistic regression. The strongest association with both forms of formal help was found in relation to an EDSS (Expanded Disability Status Scale in Multiple Sclerosis) score between 6–9.5, indicating a higher degree of impairment. The most notable difference was that personal assistance users were mainly affected by visible symptoms, while users of home help were mainly affected by invisible symptoms. Study III focused on the use of informal help among persons with MS, using two dependent variables: whether informal help was used and the number of hours of informal help used per week. The former was analyzed using binary logistic regression, and the latter using linear regression. Three variables and outcomes were associated with both the use of informal help and the number of hours of informal help used per week: being born outside the Nordic countries, receiving sickness benefits, and an EDSS score between 6–9.5. Study IV is a qualitative investigation based on semi-structured individual interviews. The analysis was theoretically driven, using a critical realist framework, and reference groups were involved in the initial phase of the analysis. The empirical material was coded into the following themes: disabling symptoms; social measures in relation to symptoms; disability as a consequence of interaction with other people; disability as a consequence of societal factors; and disability as a consequence of a combination of social interaction and societal structuring. This thesis shows that disability and MS constitute a complex phenomenon. It is argued that disability arises from interactions between the body and society, and that such interactions can be contextual and situational. In line with previous research, the studies investigating the use of formal and informal help indicate a de-universalization of the Swedish welfare system. A recurring theme of the thesis is the invisibility of many MS symptoms, such as fatigue or pain, meaning that persons with MS do not necessarily conform to stereotypical images of disabled persons. The impact of invisible symptoms have been overlooked in previous research. The present results indicate that persons with MS mainly affected by invisible symptoms were more likely to use home help rather than personal assistance, raising questions about how visibility influences access to different forms of help. Several accounts from persons with MS have illustrated how invisible symptoms—both for themselves and in interaction with other people and the social environment—were related to experiences of disability

“Människan är ju inte immun såklart att man påverkas” En kvalitativ studie om hur unga vuxna upplever konsumtionskulturen från influencers

    No full text
This qualitative study investigates how young adults experience and respond to consumption- culture communicated through influencers on social media. The aim is to deepen the understanding of how individuals aged 18-22 relate to digital consumer culture in a society where social media plays a central role in shaping identity and values. Through semi-structured interviews, the study explores both the experience of consumer influence and everyday forms of resistance. The data was analysed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and recurring themes. It reveals a complex and ambivalent relationship between young adults and influencers. Participants often express a sense of fatigue and critical awareness toward consumerist messages, yet they continue to follow and engage with influencer content. This coexistence of attraction and aversion illustrates the paradox many young adults navigate in digital environments. While participants demonstrate an awareness of the negative environmental and social impacts of their consumptions, they often find it difficult to act fully in line with their values due to peer norms and social media driven trends. This results in a state of consumption ambivalence, where critical reflection exists alongside continued participation in consumer-culture. The study also shows that resistance is often subtle, showcasing in acts like unfollowing influencers, avoiding certain types of content or discussing consumption critically in private settings. By making these dynamics visible, the study offers a deeper understanding of how young adults experience consumption and resistance on social media

The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions and experiences of reselling secondhand clothes in the brands’ own stores in the south of Sweden. This study aims to get an understanding about customers and staff members' perception of reselling clothes in stores. The study is based on eight interviews with staff members from the stores and head offices from four Swedish clothing brands Kappahl, MQ, Polarn o Pyret and Haglöfs, that sell secondhand clothes from their own brands in their stores. With the perspective from both stores and head offices, the study strives to gain a broad perspective on the subject. The material is analysed using a thematic analysis while applying psychosocial and economic theories and ecological concepts relevant to the clothing industry. The analysis resulted in themes focused on the stores, customers and staff, corporate structure and sustainability. The results show that the store’s staff are proud to work with secondhand and feel that the customers appreciate it. The clothing chains describes that there is potential for the concept to be profitable, but that it’s based on an unpredictable time horizon. The study concludes that the staff perceives the concept as an ecologically sustainable initiative that has given good economic and social results for both the chains and the customers

Production Sequencing & Decision-Making Processes in a Truck Manufacturing Case - Planning in a Customised and Dynamic Production Environment

    No full text
MSc in Logistics and Transport ManagementIn the context of increasing product variation and customisation in truck manufacturing, traditional rule based production sequencing systems face new challenges. This thesis investigates how such a system is applied in practice through a case study of Volvo GTO, focusing on how sequencing rules influence decision making, scheduling feasibility and the management of truck variant complexity. To explore these questions, the study employs a qualitative case study approach combining semistructured interviews and on site observations. This allows for an in depth understanding of how stakeholders engage with sequencing rules in a real world, high variant production environment. The results show that although Volvo GTO relies on a structured rule based sequencing model inspired by car sequencing principles, the actual process is hybrid in nature. Human expertise and tacit knowledge play a critical role in adapting to production disruptions such as late material changes or constraint violations. Sequencing decisions are shaped not only by predefined rules but also by informal coordination and cross functional collaboration. The study concludes that while rule based systems provide structure and predictability, they must be balanced with flexibility and contextual adaptation. By examining this case in depth, the thesis contributes to a deeper empirical understanding of how sequencing systems operate and interact with planning processes in highly customised manufacturing environment

The woman and the child to be – Ethical dilemmas working with pregnancy and substance abuse

    No full text
Background: This study is about women using drugs or alcohol during pregnancy. Focus in the study is to explore healthcare counsellors experience and challenges in their work with the mothers to be. The study highlights the counsellors work with the pregnant women’s perspective (supporting the mother to be) versus the unborn child’s perspective (protecting the child to be). The theoretical approach is ethical dilemmas and different ethical positions. Method: The study has a qualitative approach. Data has been collected by semi structured interviews with six healthcare counsellors, working with pregnant women having some type of substance abuse. Results: The counsellors are supporting the woman through her social situation. They support and help her in the ambivalence struggles that the pregnancy can bring, such as to keep the baby or have an abortion. It is also important that they work together with other professions to make sure she gets all the help she needs and that everyone works in the same direction. The counsellors have to work against resistance and sometimes motivate the women to come to them. When the addiction is too heavy and the woman can`t stop using drugs despite her pregnancy, the counsellors have to work in different ways to make sure that the fetus is as safe as possible and at the same time continue to support the woman. Conclusion: The study identified that the challenges are many and the dilemmas are constantly present in one or another way. It is not enough that the woman is tested for drugs once a week, it is a false control to think so. Even if the counsellors have to work both with the alliance to the woman and the support of the fetus, there is no question that the safety of the fetus weighs heavier than the relationship with the mother to be

Ämnesinriktning mot idrott och hälsa 1. Uppsats/Examensarbete: 15 HP. Kurs: LGID2G. Nivå: Grundnivå. Termin/år: HT 25. Handledare: Vassilis Sevdalis. Examinator: Konstantin Kougioumtzis.

    No full text

The Process of Sustainability Reporting Assurance: Exploring The Big-4 Firms As Third-Party Assurers - A qualitative interview study of Big-4 accounting firms in Europe

    No full text
MSc in Accounting and Financial ManagementBackground, Problematization, and Purpose: The pressing need to achieve sustainable development demands significant changes and stronger commitments to sustainability communication. The verification of the sustainability reports of organisations therefore becomes crucial, causing standard-setters to put in place legislations that mandates external assurance of the sustainability reports of organisations. The Big-4 firms as third-party assurance providers can play a pivotal role in this new auditing space as they can leverage their extensive expertise in the traditional financial auditing to assure non-financial information. However, research on the processes employed by the Big-4 firms in sustainability assurance engagement is limited, necessitating further investigation. Sustainability information is qualitative and subjective and demands a lot of professional judgements from the Big-4 assurors, potentially causing tension that requires a deeper empirical research for a comprehensive understanding of the steps employed in the Sustainability reporting assurance process. The purpose of this master thesis project is to get an understanding of the processes employed by Big-4 firms when they provide sustainability assurance services to enhance proper sustainability communication. Research Questions: The study addresses two questions: 1) What are the processes and methodologies employed by the Big-4 accounting firms when carrying out sustainability reporting assurance services? and 2) What are the challenges and opportunities/benefits faced by Big-4 accounting firms in providing third-party assurance for sustainability reporting?. Methodology: The authors performed a qualitative interview study where 9 semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents from the Big-4 firms operating across European countries. All 9 respondents are working in the audit and assurance departments of their respective accounting firms. The study uses a theoretical thematic analysis with the lens of institutional theory. Conclusion: The results reveal that the process of Sustainability Reporting Assurance in B4s consists of similar but slightly different steps. These differences reflect variations in priorities that can be attributed to local regulations or client type. The most prevalent 7 steps employed are: Engagement acceptance and Planning; Understanding the client and Risk assessment; Evidence gathering and Testing; Evaluation and Analysis; Issue identification and Resolution; Conclusion and Reporting; and Follow-up and Continues improvement. The results further highlight several challenges that the Big-4 firms face in the process of sustainability assurance services. They include a) data quality & standardization issues, assuring qualitative and subjective data, b) internal control & governance structure, c) Gaps in reporting standards and metrics and knowledge gap and resistance to change. To overcome the challenges, B-4s employ early engagement and risk identification, engagements in training and capacity building programs and specialist involvement and continuous learning of sustainability discourse to mitigate the challenges. Lastly, the results shed light on the opportunities/benefits of SRA for Big-4s, such as reinforcing reputation, increasing market share and an opportunity to develop knowledge and expertise

DRINKING LIKE A MAN, DECLINING LIKE A WOMAN - Gendered Drinking Practices in the Red Dao Community

    No full text
This study explores how gendered expectations around alcohol, shaped by social norms and social constructions, influence drinking behaviors among the Red Dao people in Nậm Ty, Vietnam. By examining both the motivations for drinking and the contexts in which alcohol is consumed, the research explores how men and women engage with alcohol in distinct ways. Drawing on theories of social norms and social constructionism, combined with concepts of masculinity and hegemonic structures, the study highlights how societal pressures and individual agency influence drinking behaviors. The methodology includes semi-structured interviews and ethnographic observations, providing a comprehensive understanding of participants' experiences and perspectives. Data were collected from married couples aged 30– 50 and analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns. The findings reveal that alcohol plays a central role in social gatherings and rituals, serving as a medium for hospitality, bonding, and social cohesion. While both men and women participate in drinking, men face greater social pressure to consume alcohol due to their role as breadwinners, using alcohol to maintain social networks and secure job opportunities. Women, by contrast, tend to drink in more limited and socially regulated contexts, with greater freedom to decline. These gendered patterns reflect broader societal norms and expectations, illustrating how alcohol consumption both mirrors and reinforces gender roles. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how gender norms and cultural traditions shape alcohol-related behaviors in ethnic minority communities
